"Persona" YouTube clips getting hit by copyright claims from... a Russian actress?

Thats the problem with youtube. Its automated, I think if anyone files a claim on your video they take it down.

Hmm, thanks for the thread. I've unlisted all my Persona videos, though if she uses the Match ID feature it won't matter. Hopefully YouTube/Atlus check this out soon!

Oh man you post here! I love your channel especially the study playlist. Hopefully nothing bad happens.

Methinks someone needs to learn a little something about copyright. Mainly the part about how trademarks and the like are only valid in the particular genre or product line that it's registered under. So unless this Russian group has a video game named Persona that predates the Japanese one, these claims have absolutely no basis.

Monster Cable learned that one the hard way when it tried to sue every other company in the world that used "monster" in their name, including Monster.com and Monster Energy Drinks. They actually believed that because they were granted the word "Monster" in trademark, that they owned the name across everything. Every one of them was dismissed because none of the other companies were making audio/video cables, therefore none of the names were in violation.

I could make a dog food named "Persona" and there's not a damned thing either one of these people would be able to do about it.

It doesn't matter when youtube will accept the complain without checking.

Phew, looks like the mix I made didn't get taken down yet. Just going to change that title to "Perusona" until this blows over.

Hey guys I saw that she deleted some comments from her video so I asked her "Persona" Why and in Russian and a bunch of other languages then she replies with "потому что не надо устраивать танцы на барабане...вот потому..." Google translate says it means this "because it is not necessary to arrange dancing on a drum ... that's because ..."
:|

Edit: Comments deleted again I think but she just said this "Ребята... будете шалить ..заблокирую..!!!..хватит уже...!!!" Google translate "Guys ... will block a naughty .. ..! .. enough already ...!"
Edit 2: Nvm not deletd just "You have been blocked by the owner of this video." lol great

"It is not necessary"?

What does that even mean?

Sure they've got no legal claim

but the practical effect is they've nuked all the goddamn videos

Google is fucking terrible at this shit. It's the laziest way of dealing with copyright claims when any common sense would show that these are false claims.

Bing translate says this though "because no need to hold dances on the drum.that's because" so obviously not translating 100%

My question was rhetorical. Basically fans can do whatever arranges they want, who is she to say that that's "not necessary"?

Well that is a huge privacy issue if true. Just in general that is a really bad policy.
That's youtube. They want people to put the first and last name as their account. They don't give a shit about internet privacy. It's not surprising that they've taken down these videos on a bullshit claim either. They're the biggest video site by far so they think they can do whatever. Scum.

I got this logging into one of my random channels:

The hell just happened here?

Hey I'm Russian, not my countries fault for being absolute idiots and taking down all the good Persona music like "Reach out to the Truth" and so on...

Would be great if any posters who can read Russian could ask her exactly why she's doing this.

Remember if your videos were messed with you can submit a report against the channel/account.

Alright everyone, listen up. Today, at the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other. Today there's not a man or woman in here who shall stand alone. Today, we face the Russians that are at our door and take the fight to them! Today, we are cancellin' the Personapocalypse!

I think I've had a little too much to drink in response to this.

Damn, I listen to a lot of Slayer0's stuff too :(

If this all blows over is there any chance all these channels and videos can come back?

Maybe she's just a huge SMT fan and she's fed up of the ridiculous amount of time it takes for the games to make it across to her territory.

I suppose the people involved have disputed with YT? This should all be resolved once their staff gets back in the office tomorrow, and it'll probably be the Russian who gets all their accounts taken down.

I wouldn't file a counter-notification if we're dealing with someone who doesn't seem to be legitimate as I've stated in the quote in the OP. It's about protecting your own identity first and foremost with respect to YT's bureaucratic way of dealing with this stuff. Years ago it used to be easier.

Everything about this is tricky now.

She'll lose all 900 of her views.

When I dealt with this before I just made a counter claim and it was resolved pretty quickly. It just takes the owners of the videos to submit a response.

I had something similar happen to my own videos last year.

I don't check my channel very often but one day I noticed advertisements were popping up on my videos. Apparently someone who claims copyright infringement can enable monetization and hijack ad revenue. I forget what it was now, but I googled the name of the organization that submitted the claim and found they had done the same thing to other channels. I submitted a complaint and the ads were taken off eventually...but still, Youtube's policy on this is fucking ridiculous.
Huh. I have an old account where one of the popular videos all of a sudden had a pop-up ad. Someone made a claim on it? I figured it was just a youtube thing where vids with more hits receive ads or something...
