Expected.

Despite some (especially Spainsh xbox fans) claiming Spain being sonyland, the truth is what Spain and also mainland europe, haven't been paying much attention to Xbox 360 even with a year head start and price advantage because MS has failed to give non english spoken countries the same treatment as US/UK. So with ONe at a higher price point, PS4 selling considerably more is just common sense.

Bu-but Spain and France are irrelevant market!

That is another interesting pov. The fact that europe (and the rest of the world) is made of small countries compared to US, and harder to track sales wise too, has lead to believe, especially in those NPD threads, that the world is only US/UK and maybe Japan.

PS4 will maybe manage to surpass the Wii in its first quarterly sales, but Xbone... there is no chance in hell they will manage 3 mil+ sales with presence in only 13 countries and $100 larger pricetag.

As for rest of the 2014, PS4 numbers will be good, but it will never manage to match Wii numbers [Nintendo had 2mil+ consoles per month production, really low price, and non-gaming appeal]

But the sales they managed in first 4 quarter is never above 4 million.. Which suggest 2 million+ production was not getting sold to the retailers at all.. I think Nintendo Production was also around 1.25 - 1.5 million per month..

Fail to see how the two are related. The One and the PS4 both have the same demand as the Wii if not more.

You're hilarious.

Fact is, there is no evidence that consumers in the gaming space actually behave the way you are suggesting to any degree over a rounding error type of number, and plenty of evidence in past console launches to suggest that they simply don't.

Check this out. From Forbes, Oct. 2000. Talking about the PS2 shortage:

PlayStation 2 Shortage Is More Than A Blip

Sony is giving its rival Sega a lovely holiday gift, while offering lumps of coal to its investors and game developers.

The PlayStation 2 game machine looks more likely than ever to be the most coveted gift of the 2000 holiday season, since Sony has announced that it will ship half as many units this month as it had expected.

...

Sony should have had this holiday season to itself, but now it’s essentially gift-wrapping customers and handing them to rival Sega.

We've heard this song before.

When I talked about 2mil+ production, i talked about 5th quarter of Wii [Q4 2007] and beyond. They sold 7 mil consoles then.

Large production was not active always, they ramped it up for holiday quarters
Q4 2008 ~10 million
Q4 2009 ~11 million
Q4 2010 around 9
Q4 2011 around 5

Sony and MS will never see these kinds of sales, not only because they are expensive and they dont have non-gaming appeal, but because I cant see TMSC/Gloflo being able to produce APUs in such quantities. 10mil chips for Sony and 10mil chips for MS in one quarter, while in the same time producing shitton of similarly large 28nm hq chips for AMD/Nvidia? Imposiburu.

To add, early adopters are by definition the more hardcore gamers. They know what they are looking for and are not going to swap one platform for the other for convenience; these systems are very large investments. To suggest that is happening in any meaningful way is ludicrous. As Pristine_Condition noted, this type of launch shortage has happened before, and more than once. It simply doesn't play out that way.

I've no doubt Microsoft will be announcing numbers close to Sony's for months regardless of sales. Just look at the way they hit their "first to 10 million, wins" goal in the 360's first year, by channel stuffing millions of units.

I have no doubt that MS will have good numbers for Xbone, but they will remain behind PS4 until they make some big changes with pricing.

I really want to know what justified some of the policies MS tried to introduce with the xbox one.

Past performance? The first Xbox didn't sell well. The 360 wasn't even the best selling console of its generation.
Brand power? The 360 failed to sell that much more than the PS3 despite the latter being released a year later, and with a significant price tag attached.

Sony had their head up their asses with the $599 moment, but the PS2 sold like a fucking monster that previous generation. So to an extend, I guess you could see why they thought they could do what they did.

Why Microsoft decided it was in a position to be able to implement those policies is beyond me. The Xbox brand needed one more generation to grow into itself, and MS decide sacrifice it for an unrealistic idea of their position in the living room.

Replace PS2 with XBLGold. That's what people are saying.

If that's the case...yyyyeeeaaahhhh...

MS focusing on the US may be a safe bet once everything evens out.

Kind of like the Mustang. Pretty popular US car that no one else really gives a shit about outside of America since it is under-teched and overpriced compared to Euro/Asian competitors.

lotta US things like that mustang, gridiron, baseball, NASCAR (most US cars..) the list goes on & on

It'll be portrayed the same as last gen. I look at someone like Mark Rubin, co-founder of Naughty Dog and all-around pretty intelligent guy: He said on the Bonus Round last month that PS3 came in last place last gen., with Pachter nodding along.

Both these guys SHOULD know better, but even they don't, so I suspect the average gamer in the US believes whoever wins NA, wins the world.

Annoying.

Mark Rubin is with Infinity Ward, Jason Rubin is Naughty Dog.

I wouldn't be surprised even if PS4 sold more than Xbone in Brazil. heard that Brazilian flooded neighbor countries just to get PS4.
These units counts to neighbor countries... no Sony Brasil sales.

But my PS4 is Brasilian official.

How can you say that when The One is one of the fastest selling consoles of all time so far this generation? Also if the DRM had stayed The One would probably be selling even faster IMO. People make it seem as if the PS4 is selling way better when that's simply not the case; it isn't leading The One in the biggest selling territories and once the price drop hits next fall the gap will likely widen.

Microsoft tried to pull it on us because the Xbox brand grew into a monster in the US because of the 360.

Totally. That's why they kept it.

If you're finding the taste to be bland perhaps a little salt would help to bring out the flavour?

I wish I could find that Home Improvement gif where it comes gushing out all over the food. I knew I should have saved that one.

Why would draconian DRM make a console sell faster? The fact that you are already assuming a price drop will happen that will widen this supposed "gap" will widen is equally bizarre.

This is the point where I know you're trolling and will cease to take anything you ever say (semi)seriously again.

Unless you're just an idiot.

Salty about what? Coming from you of all people lol.

The PS4 has the best versions of the multiplatform games in its launch lineup which (combined with the price differential) means it's no surprise that it's selling more around the world. Exclusives aren't nearly as important as some people think.

As soon as MS pricedrop, Sony will be ready to pricedrop too. The parts in the PS4 will get cheaper faster.

And stop calling it "The One", I don't know what you're trying to achieve but it's cringeworthy and does absolutely zilch in furthering your point.
