These aren't confederate statues. They are of confederates, but they are not from the Civil War, and do not honor the Civil War. They were erected during the Jim Crow era as a form of intimidation and to show African Americans who was still in charge of them.

They are more appropriate in a civil rights museum or a Jim Crow museum, but even so, these monuments are not made for historical significance or anything like that, and don't really matter if they're preserved or not since they don't provide context or historical information about the Civil War.

Should just auction each of them off to the public; with the stipulation the new owner has to pay for removal and not display the statue outside at its new location. Would be funny seeing a bunch of makeshift barn museums pop up. Basically if these racist care about 'preserving history' so much, let them pool their money and buy it back before it gets destroyed.

Or hell progressives could start a bidding war, buy up the statues and then destroy them on the spot right after the auction is over.

As a non American. I'd assume the real historical value is in examining and remembering the period in time that these were constructed, why these statues were being commissioned as late as the 20th century. This seems like a dark stain that shouldn't be buried.

I'm thinking about this one as well. I'm somewhat local.

There used to be segregated water fountains on that one. I don't think the true intent of these memorials could be any clearer.
