Box office isn't the only metric that matters.

Casino Royale -- by box office metrics (as noted by you) -- is a bad movie.

Audiences liked it, it has bad word of mouth, it's still divisive. You can choose a side if you want and that's totally fine but you're really only accepting evidence you find that works for you.

To each their own.

Edit: Deathly Hallows pt 2 dropped more than BvS.
I don't understand anything in this post.

When i saw it this week, the theater was 30% full...
Contrast with TFA, seeing it in 2nd week it was still 80% full...

I dont think BvS deserved the 25% ratings, it is at least a 65% movie. Flawed but still a watchable alternative to MCU.

I liked Man of Steel.

This movie was awful. I hope this leads to Justice League being delayed, and the standalone films given time to establish themselves first.

What in the hell are you talking about? Casino Royale had great legs and was the highest grossing Bond movie ever when released.

You aren't making any sense at all. Casino Royale was a success by boxoffice standards. It was the most successful Bond movie ever at the time. BvS fall short of many super hero films, including Btman films.

This is like comparing The Revanant to The Force Awakens and deeming Revanant a boxoffice disappointment when it was anything but that.

And most of all my point was about legs. How a film drops is a long standing metric in determining audience reaction to the film. Casino Royale had crazy good legs and small drops. BvS is having massive drops. Ang Lee Hulk level drops. Bigger drops than X-Men Origins Wolverine.

Alfred is great in this and the Batsuit is on point.

Maybe "every second" was a bit of an exaggeration on my part.

I am very excited to see all the Batman-related stuff. Even when that shitty trailer came out, I was still super hyped about Batman.

I'm also interested in WW.

It's everything else (Superman, Lex, Zac Snyder's direction, the JL set up, etc.) that I'm dreading.

Holy shit... Is that Chris Evans?

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

It's not that, it's that good movies can do low amounts at the box office.
You still have to do more to say it's not divisive.

This is why they should just shelve Justice League, fast track Batfleck in its place and proceed with the rest of the plan.

Snyder clearly sucks and there's zero reason they have to rush into a Justice League movie right now, even with the way BvS set things up.

Warner must be panicking so fucking bad right now. They NEED DC to be their cash cow for the next 10 years. If this doesn't even get out of the gate, the whole studio might go nuclear.

Snyder's done, the whole thing needs to be reformatted and reworked. They need to put JL on the shelf, slot some solo stuff (Batfleck, the Flash, WW), get the goodwill of audiences back, THEN make JL.

Right now if they keep going forward with Snyder and his plan, it's gonna be a trainwreck.

Thats not the problem here

It is perfectly easy to go team first and solos after. It's the direction of the movie that needs a big change more than anything

I think JL is locked with snyder tho. He is so ingrained in it that I can't see an ant man situation working

It might have to be delayed if they want to drastically change it or swap directors.

Movies audiences liked almost never have 70% drops, whether its a small grossing movie or a high grossing one. 70% drop means it has bad word of mouth.

Say what you will about the performance of this movie, the real damage hits when the sequels arrive. The general masses who went into it off the good vibes of the Nolan trilogy ain't gonna show up again after sitting through this.

Not surprising. The movie was enjoyable enough, I thought. Nothing great. WW was clearly just fan service and added nothing to the movie. Still not sold on Gadots's physique for WW but it is what it is.

Affleck was serviceable as Bruce. Nothing better than what did Bale did was Bruce. The action Batfleck got to do was more comic book-y compared to Nolan's Batman.

Casino Royale made $600m on a $150m budget. It did not make a low amount at the box office. It was a hit both in relative terms (biggest Bond film at the time) and in absolute terms: 4x weekend multiplier, large profit for the studio, franchise successfully relaunched. BvS is doing none of those things, which is why it's a poor comparison.

I'm sure they are real upset and him making a movie that has made $587,822,793 worldwide so far.

And contrary to what GAF thinks it will do extremely well on home video as well.

It will probably have a similar trajectory on Blu-Ray/Digital. A lot of people eager to see the longer, R-rated cut - then a sharp drop in interest afterwards.

I'm also curious how merch/toy sales are playing out. BvS is very much NOT a kid's movie, both in tone and pacing. Easy to see how the under 12 crowd could be asleep in their seats by the time the first action sequence rolls around.

Yes, passionate fans are passionate. You see the same fervor on the opposite side as well for all things with a big fanbase.

Watchman had 65%. Is it a non-divisive movie? V for Vendetta? Deathly Hallows pt 2?

Here's the easiest way to tell if a movie is divisive: are there people continuously talking about whether or not it's good or bad? Yes.

I don't think affleck shits all over Bale like some fans are so inclined to say now. Bale gave a better performance

But aesthetically he's fantastic as Bruce and his rapport with Alfred is off the chain. I don't like this movie but scenes like that workout, him and Alfred engaging in banter and the warehouse have me very optimistic about the batman movie. Despite how meh this film ended up

Batman could potentially be the best comic book movie of the decade. The pieces are there. They just have to use them well.

You're not getting it.

Losing 70% of your total gross means that it's not divisive, the majority of people, think it's bad. Movies NEVER drop like that unless the majority thinks it's bad.

That's not divisive.

the amount of destruction is ridiculous

See I don't understand these type of complaints. These are god like beings with power scales greater than most other supeheores . Of course there is going to be massive destruction. To pretend otherwise is illogical to the characters.

I really didn't like Batfleck but I still agree with all of this. You've highlighted what worked, and the potential is there.

It's so, painfully, obvious WB wants to catch up with Marvel. They did MoS 3 years ago...and then nothing. Even in MoS there wasn't really anything that hinted at the DCEU. It's like even back then, even after Avengers came out, that WB didn't have confidence in the DCEU.

I'd still rather watch BvS any day of the week than have to endure watching Age of Ultron or Thor 2 again. Now those deserved to flop.

You think anyone's going to be talking about those films still in 10 years time? Even Deadpool is flavour of the month zeitgeist claptrap. BvS will still be on peoples minds wether you like it or not.

The Titanic is still one of the most famous ships, so I see your point.

huh?

Casino Royale was solid. Reinvigorated the stale and tired Bond franchise and modernized it. It has a 95% on RT! Perhaps you are confused with the next movie Quantum of Solace, which was bad, but filmed during the writers strike.

As for Deadly Hallows Pt 2. Captain America: First Avenger came out that Friday, so it had competition. Are you suggesting God's Not Dead 2 and Meet the Blacks have the competitive power as Capt America?

WB weren't going to pull the trigger on Snyder soon after launch so it wouldn't effect the box office but with that drop I guess no harm if they start moving now to stop JL or replace Snyder. What do you think, will they forge ahead or hit the breaks other than Wonder Women and Suicide Squad ?

BvS will be remembered for the same reason ASM2 is...
