You should know that the other Officers and I were discussing this in Mumble as it was happening; we were really surprised when you managed to pull ahead of Jira in the space of about two days. However, given that you've been helping people out and really stepped up to manage the second GAF Guild after we unexpectedly filled up, we all kind of agreed that you'd make a fine officer for the guild. I dunno if you were formally asked or anything, but there it is.
I'd be honored

As someone who is so used to having a second monitor that briefly coping with only one while setting up a new PC was agony, I whole-heatedly agree with this concept. Especially for WvW or watching where your guildies are.

I wouldn't mind being able to toss chat windows over there either.
Dual monitor support would be awesome. i kept mumble and gaf up on mine...

edit: D'oh, thought I edited. just padding that post count out, you know, just in case

Awesome! Another AZ person. Will make fun times finally playing with people in the same timezone. The girlfriend and my best friend
will be playing aswell, hoping to bring them into the GAF guild when the game launches.

Another AZ person here, Tucson represent!

So I didnt get to play much of the beta, was it really as outrageously difficult as that earlier poster was saying?

I wouldn't say that the game was outrageously difficult, I would say that it was very annoyingly difficult. It was difficult in a way unbecoming the type of game that its trying to be, and it made the game frustrating to play for me. It's not even a matter of not utilizing what's at your disposal: you can dodge, pop every cooldown, constantly update your gear, kite, weapon switch, you name it, and it is very often not enough. Lots of stupid shit conspires to make the experience often turn sour for the player with no warning and no way for the player to counteract it.

From being underleveled at every turn; lack of significant progression in your character's strength past the unlocking of skills; large groups of enemies respawning on your head and instantly aggroing; bosses overscaling and one shotting you with single, unavoidable attacks; and unsplittable groups of enemies that you cannot beat by yourself because of your limited arsenal of abilities, the game's difficult needs significant retuning.

The problem is quantity. It's fun the first few times to realize that you can dodge an ettin's huge hammer attack that does 1/3 of your health. But after the 25th time, you just want to stand there and eat it. It's the same thing that bugs me about raiding in traditional MMOs. I enjoy learning a hard fight, applying the strategy correctly and overcoming the challenge. But doing it over and over again week after week is just irritating. I just want to stand in the fire and collect my fucking loot. I've already proven myself, why the fuck am I still playing this game?

This part of your post is very revealing. You want to essentially NOT play the game to do other stuff? Why are you even playing it at that point anyway?

I relish the fact that I have to pay attention because the game is making me engaged. And to counter your argument about doing it the same way over and over and over, you realize that every weapon has its own playstyle, and you can change how you do things based on that simple fact? If you're bored of doing melee, go ranged and hit it up like that. If you're bored of ranged, do a ranged/melee combo where you trying to figure out how best to tie the two together.

My point is, it just sounds like you want to be lazy playing the game. And this isn't the type of game that will let you do that. If you want downtime/laziness, crafting is the part of the game for you. It's mellow enough you can chill out, and in the beta this weekend, I frequently used crafting as a "slow down" "stopping point" to combat and exploration. It was that intense that I needed to switch gears.

The part about "I just want to stand in the fire and get loot" part infuriates me, however. You are the type of player most other players hate, wanting to get a free ride instead of contributing.

So I posted my first topic on the GW2 forums about having the ability to place the map, fullscreen, on a second monitor at all times.

What does GW GAF think of this?

To me, with all the dynamic/group events happening in the world at all times, the option of having the map on my second monitor as I play just sounds amazing.

That would be an awesome idea. I hope it doesn't get lost on their forums though as it really is quite an idea because navigation was the most annoying thing in WvW. Not a bad thing, but just annoying since it's a lot of stopping for a second and going again, then stopping for another second, etc.

I was actually going to give my mom my old monitor as there's nothing that entices me to have a second monitor set up.

The Beta Weekend has ended - There will be a GAF Wars 2 podcast tomorrow!

GAFer The_Reckoning gave a link to a really good list article about the beta:

I wonder if it would be possible to create some kind outline of the targetted mob (or maybe all mobs) that is superimposed on top of all spell effects?

They actually had this in the game at one point - it was a big red outline on mobs in general when you targeted them, and overlayed over spell effects - there was a huge bitching at GW2Guru, I shit you not - that the red overlay was "breaking the immersion in the game" - and subsequently they took it out.

Yep, that outline used to be there until people made a shitfest over it so now all we have is the outlines on players. MY IMMERSION!

I turned back on Guild Wars 1 in what seems like it has been forever. Back in the day I used to play it a ton - had 14 characters and bought all those extra slots, etc.

... All my new characters had five birthday gifts. It has been five years since I played most of my characters, and I never even finished Eye of the North.

Tonight I just got my last tapestry that allows me to display mini-pets, and because of the five year break, I have a total of 39 pets on display. I think I can etch out one more HoM point if I buy one somewhere - I'll have to find a cheap one.

So yes, I'm at 22/50 on the Hall of Monuments thing. I hope to hit 30/50 before Diablo III hits. Hopefully I'll figure out the best way to do that once I finish the EotN campaign. Fortunately I'm a Ritualist and I set up all my heroes years and years ago, so most fighting I can just hurrdurr summon spirits and let my AI pals win battles for me.

I got up to this boss fight in Eye of the North, however, that seemed to be unbeatable. He was called Cyndr the Something, and no matter what I did I could not damage him. I kept using the dwarf's kegs on him, but he would just slink into the ground, pop up somewhere else, and still never lose health.

One thing I hope is changed is better feedback when you aren't hitting an enemy. Especially during WVW when the Out of Range popup can get lost in the swarm.

Should just be optional. It's a UI element essentially.

I'm in sort of the same position on kourna with my dervish. it is really really boring.

I think judging range is going to be such a good skill to learn in this game. Blowing a skill when you're outta range sucks so hard. That or maybe I should stare at the skill bar for white numbers.

Will their be UI mods? Having better in range indicators would be nice.

The last two are pretty sparse, but I threw them up any way. I always forget to take screens in the middle of fights. The legendary white bunny fight at the end of beta event was a shitstorm of spells. It really did look like someone just smeared buckets of paint everywhere.

There are probably a few glitches in some of them, but I kept them in there anyway. I'm probably going to stick with the normal screen shot function next time to avoid glitches and capture the DOF. I had too many shots I had to toss because of the glitches the high res capture caused.

They will not be revealing the API to the public, however, you CAN mod what the UI looks like in the textures sense, but they just don't offer any support. They'll never allow for functionality based mods as they want GW2 to be an e-sport and no one can have any form of an advantage over another player.

Something I just posted to the WvW section of the forums:

So as someone who defended a Tower for 8 hours, here’s my thoughts on a very important issue that I noticed.

The biggest issue I noticed was the sheer lack of income while defending a Tower/Keep. I spent 8 hours defending a single Tower with a group of friends and a few random people here and there. We didn’t have that many people with us and every time we did try to go maybe attempt to take something else, enemies would show up, but on to the point. If enemies are fended off you’ll get a bit of XP/Karma/Coin, escorting a caravan will get you some as well. But if you’re sitting around your Tower actively preventing any sieges that do arise, you’re not exactly going to be raking in the Coin needed to upgrade/upkeep or pay for your repairs when you do die.

So would it be possible to increase the Coin across the board for defense and caravan escorts in WvW so that you can even hope to be able to help out? I’m not saying jack up the amount here, maybe 10-15% would go a long way. People attacking other points have a huge advantage because they’re out constantly killing NPCs and taking points whereas those actively defending are getting the short end of the stick here. Even something like having random attacks on the caravans would go a long way in keeping people entertained while doing so as well as providing a source of XP and Coin.

This is an issue that will persist for a VERY long time considering as you level the cost of Coin to repair goes up based on your gear. I think that if you want to WvW you’re going to need to focus on attacking for a very long time in order to have the income to even defend. So here’s my solution:

Make a single new currency that is used for purchasing blueprints, building upgrades, and gear repair in WvW. Make this new currency drop off of players and WvW NPCs, give some to people when they capture points, but also give some say every 30 min to people who have been within a certain radius of a point in which their realm has captured.

Furthermore, allow players to transfer this new currency to Gold and vice versa with the same supply & demand system the Gem store uses. This would allow people to cash out their WvW time for Gold to be used elsewhere in the game and also allow people to use their Gold from PvE to get up on an even footing with people who’ve been WvWing for a long time and have tons of this new currency. Now, before someone screams “BUT THAT WOULD BE PAY TO WIN!”, please remember that you can transfer Gems to Gold and buy blueprints/gear repairs right now anyways so this would make no difference either way.

Alternatively, you could also maybe make it so denizens of the Mists move into areas held by your realm after a certain time and start paying a citizen tax to the players that are around them for keeping them safe. Maybe give players some small amount of coin every time the score is tallied (5 min) as long as they’ve been actively participating in the defense of the Keep/Tower?

Ultimately, the easiest solution on your part is to bump up the coin rewards for defending and caravan escorting. I was mainly just tossing out some random ideas, you guys are the game designers and understand it far more than I do. Tell me what you guys think and if you had a similar experience to mine.

Okay, I'm actually quite happy with that.

Anyone know if Bleeds, or condition damage can crit? I assume not.

Tomorrow I would love help with that guy :) Some guild invited me earlier tonight and linked a bunch of "mtsc" builds. I don't even know what that stands for. I remember IWAY though.

Something I just posted to the WvW section of the forums:

They actually have Heroes Medals you get when you kill players, that redeem for gear. All they need to do is expand it to what you're saying and establish exchange rates. Put a Medals -> Gold and a Gold -> Medals tab on the PVP thing, and we're golden.

Yeah, though I don't think people would like it too much if they had to spend that gear currency to buy their blueprints or repair their gear.

There's a place where you can train to do swords, shields, and rifles. It's pretty cool, and I can see that turned into a mini-game.

We need more of those in-game.

I was honestly impressed with that Heart, it was just so different than the other ones I'd done that it threw me off and was almost like a tutorial teaching people how to dodge, attack when someone isn't blocking, and firing a skill at the right time.

Talked to a guy who did an explorable version of Catacombs and he said:

It took like 6 hours and 1 of the boss fights lasted about an hour without a single wipe, we had to figure out what to do to get to each phase of the fight.

He also said in comparison, Story Mode is very easy. I do think they said they're going to make Story mode harder and Explorable mode easier. They had mentioned that neither were fully tuned. ANet has also said you can clear an explorable wing in a bit over an hour with no wipes, I'd have to guess they wiped a shit ton.

Oh my...it would appear there's ~4,600 crafting recipes.

Looking through there's ones here or there that say they're gonna be deleted, but you can easily say the game will ship with 4,000+ different recipes. Yes, I do realize stuff like Linen Chestplate Padding counts towards this, however, it is still a recipe.

http://www.gw2db.com/recipes

Someone at ANet loves them some crafting.

I was reading the cooking sub thread. Jesus Christ they have put real recipes in to the game. On top of that they have located the resources in the correct locations like Vanilla won't grow in the Nord locations.

So tempted to pick up cooking on release now. :(

They will be account wide on release. Also the auto dye with gems was only 50 gems. The exchange rate may be off but it was only like 2 silver(if that can't recall) to get 50 gems.

That's actually another thing I came out of the beta loving. The ease of switching gold for gems was nice and easy. I blew the 2000 free gems and on the last day had to get a insta dye kit and didn't have any left so I had to exchange gold to get some. Just nice that I could just farm for gold to get anything I wanted in the store.

After this weekend, I am in withdrawal in regards to 2 things:

1. GW2 because it was so damn fun
2. Undergrads the show because I met them in a panel in Calgary Expo

then what's the point in changing it for beta by saying things in dye pack, only for individual account characters. im sorry but most people are judging the game by the betas if they are giving false info in the beta then that's there problem if they lose players

I am having a lot of withdrawal now... in GW1, I keep pressing spacebar to jump and double pressing A/D to dodge >_<

In the next beta, I may try the gamepad thing just to see if I like it or not. (and if I do, I can play like that in release :) )

Judging the game on a beta is fine if that's what you want to do, but it's a beta and a lot of things could change especcially something as small as dyes being account wide. Seems like a petty thing to lose players over something so small in the final game, let alone in the beta.

Edit:I'm not saying I like it and am making excuses. I don't like it either, but they have talked about them being account wide before and I am not too concerned with small stuff like items in the cash shop in the beta. They have already dropped stuff going from one beta to the next there's no telling what they can change with it.

Was too late for the betaweekend, but did find the Digital Deluxe edition for only 50 dollars. (mplocker.com)

Now I just have to hope that the retail version will be playable on my PC…

I really don't want to open a can of worms here, but the concept of voluntarily using a gamepad to play a MMORPG is boggling my mind. That's like putting on extra weird and clumsy shoes before participating in a marathon.

It's still nice they made it possible, though.

It's beta. Things are not necessarily the way they will be on launch. Some people don't get that? Fine. But it's not the developers being silly in that case.

Also, giving up on the game, because something as dirt cheap as dyes might have to be unlocked on a per character basis, seems kind of silly in itself.

Man I wish I could get into my guildwars account :( totally blocked out and absolutely no idea how to get in. Been to long.

Nice find in Lion's Arch. :lol

Also I guess it was found in the files that instead of bags pertaining to just profession items they just prioritize those itmes. So say you have a 20 slot bag for cooking it prioritizes the cooking ingredients to where it will put thos in that bag first over other things. So it can still be used for other things as well. Also my favorite a do not sell bag. I always have this issue so a bag of stuff you can't sell is awesome. I can't wait.

Yesterday was fine, had no problems whatsoever with the lack of GW2.

Today I opened a GW2 build tool again and now I want to play GW2 so bad. Using the build tool is even more painful now that you actually now how the skills are used and how useful they are. Arrrrgghhh.

It's not native support, so all credits goes to the people that wrote the applications that are necessary to trick Guild Wars 2 into thinking a gamepad is a mouse/keyboard.

The only thing Guild Wars 2 does is that they continue their design that you only have a certain amount of skills accessible to you at any given moment.

Hah, it really doesn't feel that way in execution (although it undoubtedly did for GW1 and I still played PvE like that sometimes).

Well, I definitely swear by Total Game Control anytime a game I have is missing controller support. But that said, ANet deserves a lot of credit for making their control scheme well-suited to an action-game playstyle.
