Max Landis will write and direct a remake of a John Landis film

Why do you irrationally hate Max Landis?

I think Max is wasting his time with Hollywood movies when his strongest talent is talking about comic books on YouTube.

Chronicle was fire
Dirk Gently is enjoyable.
Bright should be awesome
Deeper is supposed to be good

The Landisverse continues to grow.

Haters fall back.

One film that was good, a TV show that can be enjoyed, and two projects that "should" or are "supposed" to be good or awesome. Not the most compelling arguments to present to "haters", especially if you acknowledge the bad-to-mediocrity of American Ultra, Mr. Right, that last Frankenstein film, or Me Him Her.

Max Landis is fine. He's a hell of a pitch man and I have no doubt he works his ass off. But his films are largely still garbage (Chronicle is his only film I've enjoyed, anyway, and that's because I'm a big Akira fan). He seems to subscribe to "quantity over quality," and I'd wish he'd just put a little more time into what he writes instead of cranking out 3 films a year and countless more in spec scripts that are probably optioned, but we don't know about.

Here's hoping Bright is good, though.

Where's the "He has opinions and posts them on Youtube, and if your opinions don't align with Landis', he will respond with dog whistles and sicking his audience onto you" poll option?

haha, yeah that article sure is something. pajiba is like gawker-lite.

Actual quote:
Look, I don’t know entirely what’s going on here — there’s a lot of subtweeting and not a lot of specifics

Where is the vote option: "He's a cis white privileged male MRA Nazi misogynistic racist transphobic homophobe AND a Gay rainbow haired socialist feminist race traitor BLM cuck"

Honestly the only person I can think of in existence that is routinely perpetrated as the most extreme representation of both sides of the social/political spectrum. And on top of all that shit people hold him responsible for the horrible shit his dad did.

Kind of feel bad for the dude.

Is this implying the effects in the original were not legit? If so, what is wrong with you?
If not, then keep preaching. Rick Baker's work on the original is still remarkable, and I would hope they would let Baker come back and show off again. The man is a make up effects god.

No, I mean real effects like the original. Not the Wolfman where CGI got in the way.

A thread poll that doesn't have a Thor: The Dark World reference in it? Finally!

That said, if I was Landis I would've reconsidered doing this project. Seems like more trouble than it's worth to fix and update. But hey, if he knocks it out of the park it'll make for some nice headlines. I'll see it regardless but I cannot say I'm especially hopeful.

Haters gonna hate, I've really liked everything I've seen by this guy (Chronicle, American Ultra, and the "Wrestling Isn't Wrestling," video were all really good).

I really really don't understand where the hate comes from. I really liked American Ultra (my sleeper hit of that summer) and I've been enjoying Dirk Gently. Yea his stuff isn't phenomenal, but I'd hardly call him a talentless hack or something.

Phew. Thank god.
At least you recognize Baker da god.

Yeah, I remember Baker was doing effects for Wolfman only to find out the transformation was gonna be CGI to save money.

I hope we don't go though that here. I think that was one of the many reasons why Werewolf in Paris failed.

I think it really funny when people call him talentless. I've read 4-5 screenplays that's he's written and they are pretty much all good to great.

And yet, they're not getting made...

And the ones that did get made sucked, except for one.

It's absolute bullshit John Landis got off scott-free with what happened in The Twilight Zone. Guy shouldn't have worked again. I like American Werewolf in London - and could see a remake working well - but, I have no sympathy for Max or the Landis family, you reap what you sow.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Good luck Max. You're gonna try and remake a classic and that is never an easy act to follow.

Great poll.

It must be very interesting trying to remake your own father's work. Very curious to see how he approaches it.

Max was not even born when that went down.

But he's using his dad's position to get work in the movie business and still spends all his time complaining about it.

If he wasn't John Landis' son he'd just be some loudmouth spouting fan-fiction on a messageboard.

Sort of ironic considering he vented alongside the RLM crew about no more original ideas in Hollywood.

Heh, that's true. Although to be fair to him, I'm sure if he could get original projects greenlit he would do.

Let's be honest, this is a film that could be improved by a remake.

Meh; I watched it last year for the first time in decades, and it still holds up really well. I don't really see what a remake would do better; especially from someone with a wonky record.

Oddly enough, I could see Edgar Wright doing a remake of this properly.

I'd really like to see Edgar Wright tackle a proper horror film. And I'd like to see Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) do another - not necessarily werewolves, mind.

writing ok but directing? me him her was insufferable.

I haven't seen it, but it looks a bit hip for my tastes.

For sure. Original is better than anything with his name on it.

He'd be better off just completely changing the story and characters up if he's intent on going through with this

He might as well just do a totally different werewolf film and not even use the name.

Sure, but what does that have to do with the accident which is completely unrelated to Max or anything he has ever done? I mean, I don't particularly care for the guy one way or the other, but every damn time he's mentioned this gets brought up.

Bright starts shooting in 2-3 months!

That movie will be slam dunk I think.

Really?

Bright is set in “a world where magical creatures live side by side with humans and the police have a division handling crimes involving magic. A human cop (Smith) is forced to work with an Orc (Edgerton) to find something that unsavory elements are prepared to kill for

How is this not RIPD - a supernatural buddy cop comedy movie or Men In Black?
