I love those, "That guy was a real jerk" stories. If Norm had more interest/dedication to acting, I think he could play a serious and somber role

Good episode, apart from where Norm just kept being a dick to Merchant saying how he must have wanted to be in The Office.

Thank you for posting those episodes. I've never seen them before. I just watched Todd Glass part.1 and I laughed my ass off. Both guys are so funny funny. My God.

My favorite episode, even though Glass is a total wanker in it. He must have been high off of his ass, because he was totally lost on so many of Norm's setups and punchlines. The Brokeback Mountain joke is amongst the funniest things I have ever heard. I laughed until I cried the first time I saw it.

Also he was so good telling that Vietnam story. Like the entire world was wearing heavy on his soul. The fact that it's supposed to be a schoolboy telling the story added a hilarious contrast to his delivery.

I am so so so happy this came back, I thought it was dead for sure.

Nothing makes me laugh more.

Strange listening to Norm tell the Dirty Johnny joke a second time within the span of a few days. It lends credence to his claim that he doesn't stick to a script as a comedian as the words came out different. The NML version was definitely better but it was still interesting to hear this other take.

The best part about the Dirty Johnny joke, the This Guy Was a Real Jerk, and others that he repeats so earnestly is that the material leading up to the joke changes, but he never ceases to draw you in with the rambling, super-serious nature of the buildup. I crack up every time he starts talking about the male Canadian porn star eating his lover, whose screams while being cooked and consumed only drove the man's appetite to increase, regardless of how many times I hear it. The Albert Fish spin was hilarious, too, but for different reasons.

I think it was because he was high, I tend to over-analyze when I'm high too. I thought it actually made the show funnier though. Norm is so great at saying the most ridiculous shit with a straight face, and Todd taking him seriously during each setup was hilarious to me.

I saw the Merchant episode yesterday. I didn't know there's a topic dedicated to the show?

Ive seen Steve Merchant interviewed a few times and he's not very good at it, so it's easy for Norm to fuck around with him.

Best line has to be when talking about Saville "I heard he was a paedophile but didn't hear he was also a bad person".

Which episode was the porn star version, Fred Willard?

I think you misunderstood. Steven Merchant is a great comedian, former radio show host, and completely kept up with norm in this episode. I think norm was laying it on extra thick because he knew merchant could handle it.

Norm said he was a top 3 guest and I agree

Good episode, Hader kind of took center stage here, Norm didn't talk as much as other eps. That's fine cause Hader is always a fantastic guest and storyteller, even if there were some repeats from other podcasts/shows he's done.

Anyone else feel like Norm seems lower energy than normal in these two? Seems more subdued than usual. Hoping that's conscious and not health related.

Not a horrible episode (Gilbert Godfried's horrible fucking loud maw will forever take the cake), but not a classic at all. Hader is a great guest, but Norm continued to be too passive and not as quick-minded as usual. Intro was obvious and painful, and no jokes, WTF!

This weeks opening sketch may be my favourite one they've done, it's so ridiculous, precise and brutal, just Norm and Eget making stupid words up is the funniest shit, nobody understands comedy in the way that Norm does.
Also Bill Hader is a great guest, that part where he talked about his SNL audition killed me "I saw this guy with props and I was like, fuck this guy's prepared, he brought props. That guy was Andy Sandberg and he told me later on that he was thinking "fuck this guy's good, he doesn't need props"
I love those behind the scenes SNL stories, Jim Beuers one about Norm and Chris Katan is the stuff of legends.

Audio is slightly out of sync on the YouTube feed. I can't do out of sync audio. See you guys next week I guess...

edit: Just realized I've been watching for 30 minutes and the audio seems fine. Might have been just the first few seconds.

If the rumors are true and Conan will be on, Norm needs to be on his A-game. I want the Norm from Season 1 or the highs of Season 2. He seems tired and "done with this shit" so far in these two podcasts. Slightly less so in the Merchant episode, than in Hader's.

I've been waiting for that moment since season one.

I really enjoyed this episode. I'm not that big a fan of SNL but I love hearing about the workings behind it. I've always been under the impression that comedy loses something in the execution and hearing all those sketch ideas without a real point of reference confirmed that to me.

Got tickets to see Norm live in about a week and a half and I'm really looking forward to it.

Please let me know how it is, next time he comes within reasonable travel distance, I plan on going.

I saw my personal favorite stand-up comedian, Brian Regan, live a few years ago and it was great. He just did a special that you can watch on the Comedy Central app at the Radio City Music Hall, however, and it was terrible. Heaven forbid I see my other idol of comedy, Norm, and leave disappointed!

I saw Norm earlier this year live and will say this, it probably won't be what you expect. One of my friends didn't like it due to being offended from a joke. Others thought he was drunk on stage. If you see only Norm's A-Material and go in, you may be a bit disappointed. If you regularly view his material and podcast I think you'd have a better grasp of what awaits.

Just saw the Hader episode. Great stuff!

Is anyone else reading the book? It's fucking amazing.

I've been reading it on my commute and I'm about half way through. The material reads like a combination of his stories, his standup material, and his sketches. And there are great jokes and memorable lines littered throughout.

I wanted to read it on my first run through, but I fully expect to pick up the audiobook as well later this fall.

I saw Norm live 2 years ago and I agree with this description. I loved every minute, but there were definitely people there who didn't know how to deal with his style of performance.

You're a big guy.
Even though I like Bill Hader - he seems very genial and inoffensive - I thought this episode was vert boring. I don't care for SNL and it's inner workings. If I wanted that I would watch 30 Rock and have a much better time. What made the Stephen Merchant episode so great was the back and forth as Norm tested him further and further (and Stephen kept up). Hader's felt very flat by comparison. It was one-way.
