Apparently Space Giraffe got a 2.0 in OXM. What happened :(
This happened.

Come to think of it I remember having seen his entries before because they were a bit unusual.

He's on as "OXM Dan" and he has NO achievements at all for Space Giraffe. It's really pretty hard to play SG for any length of time and get no achievements whatsoever; there are a few that are given out fairly easily by way of encouragement. Genius-boy here has managed to get none at all.

His score in interesting because it shows that he got 6.7 million at a maximum level of 31. To have such a small score for level 31 is pretty extraordinary. It basically means that the player must have just been scraping through one level at a time, just barely pushing the start level and accompanying start bonus over the threshold each time, and stubbornly refusing to actually play on earlier levels and actually, y'know, learn something. It's a truly horrible way to play, a combination of idiocy and brute force that is spectacularly unrewarding.

A good player should be scoring 40 or 50 million by level 30. I'm looking at the leaderboard now, Jimaroid's level 30 score is 57 mill. "JoeQA" obviously playing the game correctly got 51 mill by level 31. I have a level *17* score that is 64 million (and that's the very point of SG; learning how to score efficiently is part of the skill and the pleasure of it).

In short, the leaderboards show that OXM Dan was playing the game in about the most shit way possible, and being absolutely crap at it. The leaderboards also show a lot of other people playing the game rather well, so we know it's not the game at fault here.

Basically he was just rubbish.

Why the hell are they putting Streets of Rage 2 on XBLA before/instead of Streets of Rage 1?!

Fucking stupid. As much as I love the 2nd, I spent far more time playing the first and hence have more nostalgia for that. Why can't they start with the first and then put the second on later?

Anyway, worked my way through Sonic again for the first time in 15 years. Couldn't believe how easy it was (although not to get the emeralds). Some points I'd like to make:

- Why is labyrinth zone relatively difficult but then the levels after it are far easier?
- Why does Green Hill Zone look far, far better than any of the other zones both graphically and technically?
- Why is the final boss fight so rediculously easy?
- Why is it so damn short!?
- Why am I so crap at getting the chaos emeralds :(

I have a question about Space Giraffe. I haven't seen official word on this either way. Does the game let you play to your own music, with the visualization playing along, or is there a set soundtrack? I would assume the former, seeing as it's built on Neon and just makes sense given that and the fact that it's Jeff Minter, but I can't find it written down as fact anywhere. Either way, I'm still getting it.

I really, really want Undertow ASAP, especially after the 9 it received from OXM. Ever since I first saw it I knew it was going to be awesome. How they got it under 50mb I'll never know. Hopefully, sooner rather than later.

Until Sensible Soccer XBLA comes out the hole in my soul gets bigger and bigger. :(

Dude... what soul? Seriously though, Sensible better be as good as you keep saying, cause my expectations for this game just keep growing the longer and longer that they take to put it up on xbla. What's the hold up, has there been any word as to why its taking so long?

Considering its been dated "September" for months now, not good.

Last I heard, it was late August but maybe I missed something. Calling Sensible Soccer and Puzzle Fighter for August 29th XBLA nirvana.

This week, two great games hit Xbox LIVE Arcade. Space Giraffe and Street Trace: NYC will each be available for download this Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (2:00 a.m. PDT).

Space Giraffe
Llamasoft
800 Microsoft Points

Worldwide

Space Giraffe features uniquely beautiful graphics and 100 levels of lovingly hand-crafted shoot-em-up action gameplay from the makers of Llamatron and Tempest 2000. Collect power-ups to activate Bonus Rounds and master the strategies necessary to maximize your score on every level!

SpaceGiraffe_screenshot19

* Extensive gameplay: Play through 100 levels of shooting and strategy.
* Level design: Enjoy the unique graphical appearance of each level due to the use of the Neon engine.
* Special features: Learn special moves to increase the Bonus Multiplier, and collect power-ups to gain access to the Bonus Round.
* Bonus challenges: Finish all 100 levels to unlock a hidden gameplay mode.

More information on the game can be found on Wikipedia (including how the title got its name), and for an interesting glimpse into the dev process, check out Jeff Minter's blog.

Street Trace: NYC
Gaia Industries
800 Microsoft Points
ESRB Rating E for Everyone
Worldwide (except Korea)

Street Trace:NYC is fast-paced street racing and arena combat set against a grim futuristic corporate-controlled environment. Choose one of nine hoverboard-riding street soldiers to carve a plasma trail as you battle and grind through six areas, including abandoned highways and war-torn arenas. Play all of the seven different games in tournaments or exhibition matches, and upgrade your hoverboard and weapons as you play. Master the trials of the Single Player Campaign or compete with up to four players split-screen or up to eight online via Xbox LIVE®.

StreetTraceNYC_Screenshot5

* A different kind of racing: Race and battle your opponents on decked-out hoverboards in three different arenas and three different street circuits. Grind your hoverboard along metal rails to gain an advantage. Your board's emissions give passing players a strategic speed boost, allowing those falling behind to rubber-band off the race leaders.
* Numerous game modes: Take on the single player campaign with 18 time trials and five champion tournaments, or go multiplayer with four-player split-screen or up to eight players on Xbox LIVE. Choose from four different arena game types, Flag, Hunter, Chaos, and Takedown, and from three different street game types, Screamer, Chaos, and Street Trace.
* Multiplayer join-in-progress: The Street Trace:NYC lobby shows how many people are playing online, allows players to join tournaments in progress, and to follow games as they progress.
* Decked-out hoverboards: Upgrade your board's engine, boost, shields and jump capabilities, and use weapons such as lasers, mines, stampede, and rockets. Gotta love rockets.
* Game goals: Earn your spot on the Leaderboards, and gain twelve new Achievements to increase your Gamerscore.

Don't miss Godfree's report on the Street Trace Community Event, on Gamertag Radio.

Fixed for you.

Besides, now we can all move on to whining about release dates for Puzzle Fighter, Puzzle Quest, and Puzzle SSF2THD. :)

I'm enjoying Hexic 2. I played one to death. Additional modes are good. The colors are a bit hard to distinguish sometimes, but overall the changes are good. Being able to blow up a special piece instead of just moving stuff with it is fun. This was my first XBLA purchase since Street Fighter.

The "summer of awesome" is deteriorating faster than the British weather. We're plunging headfirst toward autumn and the vast majority of the great games they showed are still nowhere to be seen.

Geon, War World, Streets of Rage 2, Sensible Soccer, Puzzle Fighter and Puzzle Quest can't all come out next week.

Well, they'll be out when they're ready. Either way, we're getting 2 games a week now so I'm not complaining. Sensi Soccer next week though, I'm can feel it!

Do not forget that the summer extends all the way to mid September.

As far a as Undertow goes, it is a high contender for a release "soon" but nothing concrete, it could be next week, it could be October.

Space Giraffe..FINALLY!!!

On a down note though - I guess I'll also loose the ability to play the full game offline since I'm gonna trade in my current 360 for a new one in November. :/

My plan is to use my current GameStop warranty when it expires in November for a new HDMI Premium. There's goes the ability to play the full game offline.

They need to fix this annoyance because XBox Live won't be around forever, then again neither will a working 360.:lol

Don't kill me folks,I'm an XBoxer by heart, just wish they would fix this damn problem(the full games playable on another 360 I mean) I would be buying more XBLA games here.

Of these, they only promised War World for August (in their "sizzling summer" press release).

Spoke to xbox support today, if you recover your gametag on a console now and redownload your games they will work offline on that console (they register to the new console) and work with guest profiles offline too.
