To start, a link to my other Sonic R/LTTPs:

So yeah, since Sonic 4: Episode 2 was pretty short, my group and I actually started up Generations HD as well. I think we got about halfway or so (we just restored Holaska's temple/emerald, which I think was the fourth). Since this one's still in progress, I'll just go ahead and give my initial thoughts.
I actually watched the pokecapn let's play of this in the past, and of course I've played the Wii version. But it definitely is a little bit of a different beast than I expected/noticed before, which caught me a little off guard. Probably the weirdest things (in a definitely crappy way) were the loading screens and the oddly terrible frame-rate in the hubs, which I recall also existing in the level selects from the Wii version, interestingly enough. Probably the biggest thing that irks me is the way the town and level select hubs are separate, and if you want to go back to the world map from the level select you have to first go back to town, then the map, increasing loading further. Oh, and the game seems to send me back to Professor Pickle constantly, which is a pain.
Other than that, the complaints are kind of similar to those I had with the Wii version, only everything has a ton more polish so it's been a decent time (though the night stages are crazy long). I can say the pole controls (IE the ones you can grab on and rotate around in four directions) feel weirdly stiff, and the fact that they mapped the homing attack to the boost button still seems lame to me.
At the very least, I've been pleasantly surprised that the game does in fact feel like a different experience from the Wii game. The level themes, bosses, and plot are the same, but they're definitely different games.
