Persona 5/Dancing All Night (2015), Persona Q/P4AU (Fall 2014) for NA

Please be good and more streamlined.

Ain't nobody got time for 5 arcs in 80 hours of mystery dungeon.

I disagree. Persona 3 and 4 were so easy to get engrossed in, I love how long they were since it gave you so much time to connect with the world and all of its characters. If anything, I hope Persona 5 is even longer.

Wait a min. I just realised that Strange Journey has not been released in EU yet.
Japan release date: October 8, 2009
North America release date: March 23, 2010

Yeah, I don't think it will come round these parts.

Thankfully, the DS has no region lock, unlike that other Nintendo handheld.

I hope it's Q1 2015. But with this being their biggest game yet and them working under Sega now, it'll probably be sometime late 2015. :(

Maybe? PS Now hasn't gained much traction yet, but in a few years it could be a viable option.

Also Persona 5 continues to kind of be a ball of mystery, it would be nice to see some actual previews of what it's supposed to play like.

Hopefully Social Links will be less stupid.

Well given that its a year off and that's one of the last big PS3 titles, I would imagine that's a good way to get people who don't want to dust off their PS3s (or who went Xbox last gen) to get the game without having to do a full on PS4 cross-gen release.

I would be extremely surprised if Social Links were terribly different. Half of the popularity of Persona is amassing a gigantic harem of ladies. But I'd definitely welcome a few changes such as:

The social links actually having some kind of relevance to the story. If you dated Yukari in 3 or dated Yukiko in 4, it never got brought up by anyone outside of a few limited events that were mostly insulated from the storyline. But again, part of the problem there is that people would probably be genuinely pissed off if they couldn't get a harem and in any kind of realistic scenario, there's no way you could date Yukiko and her best friend at the same time, even though you can. So maybe that's just something you have to overlook.

Another one is the social links having a little more interaction when you're not in a straight-up level up event. I don't really have an idea for this other than if I go over to Shu's house to tutor him, I just get some static amount of points and don't actually interact, which seems boring. I wonder if there's a way to make that more interesting. But then again, P4G did a pretty good job of diversifying the ways you could get S. Link points with various characters, so maybe that's a moot complaint in a sequel.

Please be good and more streamlined.

They have games like that. They're called dating simulators.

Well, the reason its on the 360 to begin with is because the 360 took a considerable amount of the market the PS2 had, including people who had potentially played P3 and P4.

Your counter to my logic is silly. They have the engine on the system. Its a low cost port so people on 360 who really enjoyed can continue and finish the story.

I mean, come on.

Low cost port and using the same engine are good reasons that make more sense.

I just didn't understand the logic behind the story argument. Yeah the 360 stole a lot of the market away from PS2....but there are also a lot of 360 owners who also own a PS3. And if that's why P4A was on 360 then why isn't Persona 5 on 360 as well? You can cite low sales on 360 but in that case P4AU shouldn't be on 360 either.....which just brings us back to the low cost port/engine reasoning.

Look guys, I wish Persona 5 was a PS4 game too, I really truly do. I also wish I had the body of Dwayne Johnson--You don't always get what you want.

Please don't turn this into a thing, that is, whenever P5 is brought up it becomes a platform war.

Let's all just be happy this game is coming.

Why be logical when we can just bitch and moan?!

I would just cut out the (bad) dungeon crawling and focus on the social links.

Or they could just start designing good dungeons. Randomly generated floors is not the answer. I do find it nuts that they haven't made a straight up dating sim from the Persona universe like you initially suggested. Put it on iOS in Japan and charge $1.99 per waifu rub.

Music game with great songs and no annoying vocaloid voices? I'm so in.

Nice, but PS3 exclusive? I guess P4U sales on 360 was pretty bad?

I think what they went with in P4 was fine - there's a few non-random floors, but there are random floors in between. The actual route you take to get to the floors where stuff happens doesn't really bother me, I guess.

The sales on 360 were pretty pitiful to begin with for the first game. They were enough to justify keeping the lone sequel to the game on the system for the west. To make sure those few people could still continue the series. If this was going to be a long running series well past this final chapter, I seriously doubt they'd commit to it like they have.

Isn't the reason mainly for tournaments? I think I read EVO is all Xbox 360 now, no?

Well, three of them are on region free consoles, so you can easily import/download them from the US.

Are we going to do this in every thread? You can argue all you want that what happened with the first Arena wont happen again but I'll believe it when I see it.

Well, I am probably getting all of these. May skip on Persona Q (or buy it and simply never get around to it) due to schedule. I thought Arena 2 also had Adachi as a character? I was looking forward to that..

A bit disappointed P5 is 2015. When I bought a ps4 at launch, I didnt expect id be using my ps3 for two more years. That is one hardware purchase thats really paid off as an investment.

Oh no you have to plug in a PS3. The horror.

I understand the arguments for both sides, but it depends on how much effort it requires Atlus to move do a cross-gen release. If the answer is more than a minimal amount, I don't see any reason for them to do it because the only actual gain is convenience and whatever number of people are hot to play Persona and don't have a PS3, but do have a PS4. The install base for PS3 is dramatically bigger than PS4, even a year from now.

I wonder if Persona 5 will end up being the last new PS3 game I ever buy, like P4 was the last new PS2 game I bought. I kind of hope so, it would be a fantastic swan song for the system.

.

He's definitely in the game in some fashion, just not as a playable character.

I don't have a problem with any of that stuff actually. I have a problem with them being arbitrarily and completely transparently tied to the non-dating simulator part of the game. I want to level up my Social Links, but I don't want it to feel like something I have to do. I want to be able to dislike characters and tell them to fuck off, rather than having to deal with their whiny garbage because the game makes you depend on them one of the most important aspects in the game (making Personas and completing quests related to them).

Or: I simply don't have time to run through the same 100 hour game twice. Please do something to fix this Atlus.

I enjoy the dungeon crawling to break up friending the shit outta everyone. But it should be properly designed dungeons not randomized crap.
Yes. Proper diverse dungeon design like in classic FF games. Not this rinse and repeat stuff. I'm hoping there will be an element of exploration.

You realize a shit ton of people can only fit 1/2 consoles in their area max and/or need to sell last gen shit to afford ps4, or don't want to fill a closet with old junk just in case?
To your first point, just unplug something to make room. Not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things.

Second point is valid, yeah that sucks. But that's not Atlus' fault. And whining endlessly about the platform is boring and lame.

Why is Dancing All Night being released so late? I figured that would be the one to release first.

It's actually not as close to being released as PQ and P4U2 in Japan, so it makes sense.

North America will probably get the games in the same order that Japan gets them:

1. Persona Q
2. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
3. Persona 4: Dancing All Night
4. Persona 5

As for Europe? Eh, who knows. We always have strange release times and release order over here, and I'm beyond caring at this point; I will just import whatever hardware is necessary to play whatever game. Sick of being spoiled on my favourite series.

Why is everyone so upset about it being a PS3 game?

I don't remember many people complaining about P3 and P4 being PS2 titles when the PS3 was already out..

why isnt this coming to ps4 again? I wouldnt even care if it was the exact same thing just ported, with absolutely nothing changed. I doubt i will still be playing ps3 in 2015 whenever this comes out

the span of Persona 4's release to localization was roughly six months...so we are looking at a summer 2015 release if that holds true today. Will wait for Persona 5 golden or whatever it will be. Not spending 60 dollars on a ps3 game in mid-2015

That's probably because next to no one even knew what Persona was back then :p

What happened to the Persona 5 thread?

Anyway like I said. I think Atlus should seriously consider porting to PS4 now.

Going by what aeana and Verendus implied, they tried to get the game on PS4 but had troubles so they moved it back to PS3.

inb4 "Sony can help"...I doubt Sony cares.

Persona Q is the first to release WW actually.

I guess I don't really understand the complaint. The simulator aspect being tied to the JRPG aspect is what makes them Persona games (P1 and 2 notwithstanding).

Wow, the Dancing All Night screenshots looks really good image quality-wise.
It's also the game I'm most looking forward to of all these games as of now.
