Xenoblade Chronicles X: April 10th Doll Presentation [up: video with subtitles]

Jumping to conclusions here, but I'm gonna say that it's a different time of day, therefore more light is coming from the windows in one of them, and more fog is present in one as well.

Looks about the same to me. Only disparity is the middle image, but that's a lighting issue.

Jesus.

At least we'll get to see a 10/10/10/9 Famitsu review very soon.

Famitsu will give it a 36-38/40. Nintendo will stuff money down their throat if they have too but probably not enough for a 40/40. That and they gave Xenoblade a 9/9/9/9.

It's just strangely flat at times.

It's not really a complaint or anything. The game looks awesome. It was just something that stuck out to me.

You'll see that all over the environments, which they disguise with the foliage and other strewn models. Its still rather jarring, though I ignore it, when you see people walking on air because the ground isn't completely mapped out for clipping. You have to cut corners with a game like this on a console, wouldn't even matter what console really, and you can see the same stuff in the FFXV demo if you can look past the god-awful aliasing in the demo.

I hear yeah. Might test out this cutscene once I have a copy of the game, though the one in the reveal teaser made it seem like it was shot at nighttime.

I hope there is a ballistic version of that cannon super weapon. Gonna find that and all missile weapons I can and do a Koenig Monster Heavy Doll.

Now that I think about it, why not have a super weapon that takes up all 8 slots of weapons, requires a bunch of fuel to use and huge cooldown?

Thank you kindly for reminding me of the backward compatibility. All of a sudden I am reminded of SW Rogue Squadron. Zelda is another franchise that has always piqued my interest. That said, my current backlog is around 30 games....

SW Rogue Squadron were on GameCube, not Wii. Unless you want to fumble around with hacking your system, GCN games are not an option for you here.

Nintendo should really be focusing more on the Mech part when marketing the game. The trailers with close up of human faces are horrible, everything is built in scale with the Mechs so they don't look quite as good when you're playing as the humans.
The Mechs look really fantastic and being able to drive and fly around seems amazing.

I agree but they could also spend more than 5 mins on creating a decent MC xD
Their chara creator seems to have some depth (like Phantasy Star online 2) but they skipped it so fast :(

I've seen much better player created main characters for the game than the one they keep insisting on using. No idea why they went with that one..

Sorry for asking again, but is 4 player quests Monster hunter style confirmed? Still confused about that

I don't think you can roam free and do all the quests together since they specially mentionned only squad mission for 4 players co-op. But we might have more details when the game will be out.

What do you guys think of posting the gif recap I posted as a new topic? (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=159689899&highlight=#post159689899)

I don't think I have the 'priviledge' to do that though, so would someone like ~L.A-san want to do it? If you guys think it's a good idea. I'm still not really familiar with NeoGAFs supposed structure... lol

(Is there even a way to see if someone quotes you? Lol)

Your work is definitely commendable but I don't think it should be put into a new topic. It's clips of the video that is already in the op and what this entire thread is already about. It doesn't bring any new information.

It would be great to have them added to the OP though.

Since I've settled on making my custom character Eureka from Eureka Seven, I'm definitely going to try to make a Doll similar to the Nirvash.

Monster Hunter style? That'd be nice ahaha.

Basically, you start with the 32 players working towards one of the squad objectives. Once one is complete, you are put together with a 4-person team to take on an enemy (pretty sure it's an Overed). I believe these advance your "Conquest" and once that's reached a threshold, you take on a World Enemy (similar to a raid boss).

I wonder how much of the world you can interact with as you fight these enemies. If they allow you to roam large areas, that'd be amazing. But I could also imagine an operational area. Either way, I can't wait to see.

Well that's good enough, as you mentioned at least once you complete those you DO have a 4 player team to take an enemy

I imported the first xenoblade but only played 5 hours. Started again this week and got sucked in, fell in love this time. 15 hours in and alone for the weekend.... And after seeing the doll trailer with subs, I'll probably be about 30 hours in by Monday :D I'm so suddenly pumped for this game

Like the guy above me said, we only do new threads for new news here, so it could end up locked. Good work though!

And no way to see who quoted you, but you can search GAF for quote=username

Ah okay cool. I thought it might attract a little more attention from people who don't usually head into Xenoblade topics, since everyone like gifs and perhaps get a few new people interested in the game :) Thanks regardless! I'm still a newbie on GAF lol.

Yeah, they've been using the same one for awhile which doesn't look any good. Not sure if he's the default protagonist. I liked the black haired one more (I think he has black hair in the cover?)

I don't think I'll EVER find a character creator as good as the one PSO2 has. Even Xenoblade Chronicles X's doesn't live up to what you can do. Just... the level of detail and the quality of the character models are great. Luckily, the dolls customization in Xenoblade Chronicles X really leaves a lot to the imagination though!

I kinda hope not

when I play GTA I expect to call my car and I also do not have to fuel my car in GTA

I understand it is nicer to have when I feel lazy but in an RPG like this if I am going to walk that far away from my doll I should have to work at getting it back

hope they do not allow it to fly to you, you have to take care of it get it fuel get it parts get it repaired get out of it in a fight before it is damaged

so yeah should not get to call it to me like a horse you see in so many RPGs that will spawn near you, if they are going to do that why bother with the fuel part of it?
What if they made it so the doll consumes fuel and takes time based on distance? You can, for example, make your way to your doll as it approaches (saving some time and fuel in the process, naturally) and in the meantime do stuff like explore places, complete quests and fight enemies on foot.

It sounds alot like monster hunter to me. There isn't much free roaming, the quests are multiplayer-specific, and they confirmed you have the option of doing them on your own.

So are the guilds something u create on your own and have a leader? or is it like something you choose from outta 4 different ones during your playthrough?

I just noticed that in the beginning of the video when one of the characters was test piloting a Doll it was just a skeleton. Does that mean we can also customize the Dolls with different armor plating?

Is there a sub video out there better than this one? It looks like it's missing a lot of info.

We should expect one hopefully tomorrow from iyakku. He and Gessenkou aka CAAAAAAAAAAAW here on Neogaf, work together on making the translation videos. Gessenkou does most of the translation work while iyakku puts the video together. A collab made in heaven really :)

If it's like the last video, we should see a translation that covers the dialogue and some of the menus first then probably a week later we'll get a full translation that even includes the menus. It's incredibly well done.

Here's some of their previous work on the other presentations

This confused me a bit from the Direct, but I think there are eight separate "guilds" / "unions" / "factions" which serve different functions in the world (exploring vs. mining, etc.) and which you can join and eventually switch between, and which are part of both the single-player and online experience. You gain points for performing different functions on behalf of your union, and these contribute to an online ranking of the unions vs. one another.

But then in online play there are also 32-member "squads" that are part of the same network, and which determine your squad missions and online co-op squad quests - I'm not sure, but I don't think you have to be part of the same union to be on the same squad.

From earlier Siliconera articles:

Path Finder: A union of the pioneers, with the significance of a pioneer. They’re in charge of setting data probes, and expanding the Frontier Net.

Interceptor: A Union in charge of exterminating protists. They take on the role of guards that protect the survey teams, or help in the rescue of New Los Angeles citizens.

Avalanche: The Interceptors are about “protecting,” and Avalanche are their opposite as the “attackers”. Their role is to subdue dangerous creatures.

Testament: A Union in charge of search and recovery of remains from the wreckage of the White Whale spaceship. They are also in charge of recovering things that get lost in the battlefield.

Colepedian: A pioneer Union similar to the Path Finder, but Colepedians go ahead of any other Union to survey and gather material.

Land Bank: This Union is in charge of maintaining the livelihoods of the people. They search Mira for resources and gather minerals.

Arms: The Union in charge of helping the Arms Company develop weapons for Dolls and soldiers.

Companion: They play the role of mediators, and their job to help fix any problem between citizens of New Los Angeles. This includes everything from stopping quarrels to looking for lost cats. They’re practically a jack-of-all-trades.

EDIT: and yeah, #TeamAvalanche

Man, I really love how much work they put into the Doll animation. Like how the sword handle comes out and retracts in this gif. Such a nice little touch.
