Kotaku: Meet The Head Transplant Doctor at The Centre of a MGS Conspiracy

I find hard to believe that this is all a marketing stunt. It's getting way to big and out of control. Dr Canavero is a well known doctor, would he go to TV and lie about all of this puting at risk his credibility and his lifes work?

In the other hand that interview with kotaku really felt like he was trying to seem surprised. And Kojima saying he could be fired or banned from the industry or whatever he said this is a good reason to me

Oh, I'm not saying this is an intentional marketing stunt. I don't know. Many factors/clues saying one thing and many factors/clues saying something else. I don't know what true and what's false at this point. But whether it's a marketing stunt on the doctor's end doesn't actually matter that much in the grand scheme of things; in fact it doesn't even matter how much was intentional on Kojima's side. GAF kind of started this marketing campaign, and it doesn't seem to be stopping.

Well, I mean it's not advertising as long no one knows it's advertising a product. I just wonder how they were planning to make the jump from fake headstransplant to "MGS 5 out now" and have the media go with it

But these news posts etc. are all mentioning the game "Metal Gear Solid V", which creates interest in the product, and then they'll look the title up themselves, or maybe when the game is out and they hear about it or just overhears someone mentioning it, they may recall that they've heard about it before and maybe even remember what scenario they heard it in and are now interested in seeing what the fuzz was about etc.

In short, it creates interest in and awareness of the product, which is never a bad thing.

It is absolutely more likely for a doctor to risk his credibility for a dangerous, farfetched procedure that for whatever reason he actually believes in than for a doctor to risk his credibility pretending to do so as viral marketing for a video game.

He doesn't seem to give a fuck about his credibility tho

The procedure and the PR stunt can be real at the same time. One doesn't contradict the other.
The Doc needs money and awareness. How can he get that? Be part of a batshit crazy marketing campaign that would generate more global headlines than his crazy claim in the first place.

Canavero is going to have an interview about this conspiracy with one of the major italian public TV broadcaster. I will post it when it goes online.

I live in Italy , can you tell me which TV channel will broadcast this interview ?

No, he has nothing to do with MGS or Kojima for fucks sake, what more does it take for you to stop seeing conspiracy everywhere in this ?

Yep. Stuff like this embarrasses me as a MGS fan honestly.

The only reason why this doctor was even connected to Metal Gear Solid is because someone made a stupid comparison about his likeness to a video game character in one of the MGS threads here. Then the whole Carnival of Stupid ran away with it, even after it was established that Kojima modeled the character from an actor that's living in Japan.

I want this to be real.

I also want santa to be real.

Im just not dumb enough to start telling people santa IS real because i want him to be.

about half an hour ago Hideo Kojima tweeted this picture on his english twitter,

08Mkvhu.jpg

it got me thinking.. eye..? hmmm.. where had I heard that before..

and then I remember an old article from 2013 on the independent

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...-neurosurgeon-dr-sergio-canavero-8682851.html

But the Italian, who works for the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group and has previously published research on whole-eye transplants, says that his project is no fiction

and then I found an abstract from the old Hypotheses Canavero made back in 1992 (which I read back then)..

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1474948

Blindness is a human and social problem of incalculable weight. In the future, artificial 'bionic' prostheses and retinal grafts could achieve a long-sought cure. Several lines of evidence led to the speculation that a total eye transplantation for the cure of retinal blindness may become feasible in the near future. It is proposed that a brain dead patient's eye, whose retinal viability has been demonstrated with an electroretinogram recording, be transplanted into the blind's voided orbital socket, through a frontoorbitotemporal craniotomy and orbitozygomatic osteotomy. Regenerating optic nerve axons are channeled in a specially constructed guide to the homolateral corpus genicolatum laterale, while the retinal ganglion cells are adequately protected during the regrowth period. Aspects of this paradigm are reviewed and discussed.

it´s obvious when you look at all of this that this is a clue from Hideo Kojima.. it´s all real.. it´s a publicity stunt for both MGS V and the head transplant..!

Am I doing this right?

I'm almost positive a GAF member created that account. Man.

Unbelievable that this actually reached him.

Edit - actually, it's not unbelievable when all the idiots in the last thread were calling him. Ridiculous that people went there.
That's not ridiculous, it's a good thing. He should know about it.

Waking a girl from a coma doesn't mean he's not the equivalent of a mad scientist and obsessed with being the first one to make a head transplant, which is, honestly, a lot more ridiculous than this being part of a marketing campaign for a game by Joakim, I mean Kojima.

I mean, it IS already a marketing campaign, want it or not :p

That AND around 90% of this thread (or more) says this has never had anything to do with MGSV, I can't see the bias nor "the GAF" being pro-conspiracy, it's the other way around lol.

You conveniently cut away the first part of my post, I see ;b

Look, I'm not arguing against any of that, lol.

Could this be the real reason Kojima went silent for a while?

T8tb.jpg

5 years from now, no matter where Kojima ends up with, fans will still insist that one can see a faint scar around Kojima's neck and that his body looks and feels different.

Hold up,

the doctor's going to be interviewed on national Italian TV about this ?

The best inadvertent viral marketing I've ever witnessed, hands down.

GUYS GUYS GUYS

Sergio Canavero is Kojima's long time old friend. He is a Doctor whose work is legitimate.

Kojima based the Doctor off of his friend but didn't really think anything more of it as he looked enough like actor Ian Moore to begin with.

Kojima and Sergio laughed about the situation but didn't think anything more of it as they both had their own work to do and didn't want to intrude on each others works

Konami and Kojima fallout happens

Kojima starts planting seeds for the Sergio likeness by Inception-ing Gaffers

Sergio is in on the plan

Sergio pretends to catch on and be 'unaware of Kojima and MGS'. Threatens to sue Konami for everything.

Lawsuit goes through and Sergio takes down Konami for everything as Kojima walks away from the HQ building in flames.

Sergio invests all the money in Kojima's new startup who buys the MGS rights from Konami's husk.

For a long long time I thought all of you were just fooling around with fun ideas. But now I'm realizing many of you is actually pretty serious with your theories, and now I don't know what to belief anymore.

This is a crazy (but indeed interesting) thread.

Whoa, what? You think these GAF members were calling to tell him, "Hey, I'm just an internet forum member, but I care enough to tell you that people on the internet are making up stuff about you that not might be true."

That's a poor excuse, and few GAF members have the journalistic credibility to even reach out to him. Call a spade a spade - these members were pursuing insane theories.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero is preparing to finally appear in an Italian TV program. There, he will show the complaint to Hideo Kojima and Konami for the unauthorized use of his image and his theories about head transplaint.

Who the fuck said there will be head transplant theories in MGSV? o_O

Yeah this guy has no chance, his lawyers are wasting their time.

I just read the businessinsider piece. The way they lay it out it really sounds like a bizarre viral marketing scheme for both the game and the surgery, with each one promoting the other. They are working under the assumption that the procedure isn't a complete fraud. If it is a marketing ploy, it has already worked. We're talking about it, it has hit mainstream news.

Guys, everyone entertaining the possibility of this being a friggin MGS marketing stunt is just doing so for a laugh.

...right?

If not, I'll have to re-evaluate my stance on videogames being potentially detrimental to one's ability to perceive reality.

I've actually thought about this to some extent.

Specifically AR (alternate reality not augmented reality) games. Things where people leave little hints in things and people are expected to piece it together. I remember a band did it a while back dropping notes, leaving clues in song audio, and even going as far to have a clue be only visible if you viewed a portion of audio that could only be accessed by piecing together a URL from other clues and then using an audio visualizer to get a coded message which was then decoded.

Combined with it being part of the "game" to never publicly acknowledge it. Stuff like this I feel actually has the ability to really warp people's perception of what is real.

Definitely. It's like being a fan of Sonic games but having a big part of the fanbase be creepy furries that want to fuck the characters. MGS has fucking conspiracy nutjobs that would rather take the obtuse, insane theory over the truth. Even when presented with the truth.

Of course. But when you're talking about head transplants out of nowhere everything has to be taken lightly, right?

People defending this doctor and talking about his reputation and credibility are surely just doing it for a laugh, right?

Right?

What normally happens is someone does something for a laugh, and then it takes form by people who genuinely believe the joke, this has happened multiple times.

I'm not sure if the series creates very gullible people with diminished reasoning skills, or just attracts them.

Do the people who say "lololol what have you done GAF", "Great job GAF" or "LOL we got Konami sued" actually believe in that head transplant story? because if that's the case YOU are the freakin crazy ones, not us who think this is a Kojima ruse.

It's obvious that I don't believe the nut job nonsense that most of our fan base seems to enjoy believing (As you & I have talked about in previous posts). I'm more annoyed that this has escalated to a drastic point because of the stupidity of others and the blow up from Journlists who were desperate for hits.

Beautifully said. I can name so many people that fall under this.
