Rumour: Mark Cerny's team (Knack) helping out on finishing The Last Guardian

Yeah just like he was involved with PS4...oh wait!!

Cerny's exceptionally smart - a veritable genius at times. But it's a totally different animal of genius which people are after in a Team Ico game.

Ueda's probably (HOPEFULLY) still in charge though, with Cerny having nothing to do with it. It would just entail that the team he supervised for Knack are now being supervised by Ueda.

Bit rude to come into a thread about a eagerly anticipated game and tell fans they need to shut up about it.

You don't have to be in this thread. And you don't need to blame fans for Sony's mishandling of the game.

Wouldn't be the first time a SCE studio has had to step in on a troubled project. Seems like a good idea.

Really? But this is so "pretending to be insider 101"

Anyway, you've asked the quote to be removed from OP.
Wachie. Viveks just talks about shit he hears just like the rest of us. You're on some trying to prove him not an insider when the dude has never claimed to be one. Its kind of wierd.

Mark Cerny's team? What? Mark Cerny's team was a part of SCE Japan Studio.
There were even people in there which have developed ICO and/or Shadow of the Colossus.

So yeah sure. Of course there are people of the Knack team inside the current TLG team.
Knack was developed by a team at Sony Japan Studio which... is the same studio that would have been making TLG anyway. At least, supposedly making it.
Exactly! They even said back then that former ICO/SOTC staff were in the Knack team.

If Knack had a waggle minigame, it would be no different than 2007/2008 Wii shovelware, that's how bad it is.

Well, they are part of the same development team. So yeah, expected.

That's like being surprised that the Uncharted 3 devs are working on The Last of Us.

Aren't Team Ico's games built solely on the studio's creativity at the time? I don't like ico or sotc that much but it's obvious they were made with a lot of passion behind it and uncompromising ideas. really unconventional stuff too, they made the game exactly how they wanted it not really caring how they would be received.

getting outside help to finish development (and all the delays) leads me to think they probably were unsatisfied with the idea of the game, plus weren't there rumored periods of just non-development?

this is obviously not going to be the game team ico fans want in the end, why don't they just cancel it already.

Wasn't Ueda just a contractor on creative design eventually? Surely he got tons of his plan in place after all this time

He left Sony in 2011 but he said he will be a part of the team getting TLG finished but as a freelancer.

EDIT: Oops, I responded to the wrong post. But yes, I believe he does. There was a Kotaku article a couple of years ago that said Ueda wants to work on a zombie game next.

If it isn't a case of Cerny and his team changing any of the core design of the game I'm OK with this.

Knack was badly designed but not a technical abomination. Team Ico games have top-tier game design but don't always perform well technically.

If that was a roadblock during development (things like AI and graphics not panning out) Cerny and his team could shape it up I reckon, sort of like Sony Santa Monica helping with Journey.

Read the thread. Cerny won't be touching this, nor will any of the core Knack team. The production team who have been moved onto TLG will help with the "grunt" work and when TLG is finished, they'll be moved onto the next project, where they'll do the exact same thing. It's how Japan Studio is structured.

I doubt Cerny's even working on a game anymore. He's probably back at Naughty Dog, on the ICE Team, as well as doing early work on the PS5.

Here's what I don't get. Why does anyone think Ueda is still "directing" TLG? It sounds like, at best, he's in a contributor role who is overseeing the production from a supervisory role.

On his twitter profile he still proudly lists The last Guardian. Also he published this on his website: http://www.fumi.to/

Contributor term used loosely. He is very much in charge.

問い合わせが多いのでご報告 To All Interested Parties:

As some of you may have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, continue working on THE LAST GUARDIAN as a freelance contributor.

While it’s been a long time coming, THE LAST GUARDIAN remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.

I should also mention that details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN's release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.

Moving forward, it is my intent to continue my involvement with THE LAST GUARDIAN project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective. As I rekindle my passions as a creator, I look forward to seeing where it will take me, and I deeply appreciate your support during this transition.

Well the rumour is his team. In other words the part of Japan Studio supervised by Mark Cerny, which would probably be comprised of a large amount of the people who worked on Knack, are stepping in to see TLG to the end of development instead of working on another project (like a Knack 2).

So yeah it's likely just help in a technical capacity in getting the TLG vision on a disc.

My favorite part about this thread is that some people now appear genuinely concerned/worried over the revelation of Sony Japan employees working on a Sony Japan game.

Keyword on appear - cause not even their authors can take those posts serious. Why should others?....There is a purpose to them.

As others have said. Studio Japan exchanges staff for projects. Not much to that.

Cerny is probably working on hardware aspects and r and d for ps5 or whatver by now . And his "knack team"
Which was pulled from the ico team is back working on tlg ... This is a silly topic . Op didn't provide enough context

Yeah, I'm not seeing the shocking news here. I was always under the impression that Sony Japan was more or iess one pool of resources that got shifted around as projects entered and left full production or needed a push towards release.
i think the shocking news is that it's still being worked on.

The article you linked doesn't say that.

Edit: it does but it doesn't source that statement and I can't find anything else saying that. It's false. He's still working on the project as a contracted employee.

You're aware that this was the same article that game spot falsely claimed the title was "officially dead" right? Their insight into the development of TLG is highly suspect.
