Maybe if they port it people will be able to see what a poor game it is now that it no longer has that 'exclusive' sheen.

I beat it but it was hugely disappointing.

Yes. The only reason people liked it is because it's exclusive. Not because they have different tastes than you do or anything.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5

The fifth Persona game will also be the fifth mainline Shin Megami Tensei.
The delay was to add content to the game and polish it up after this realization/shift in direction came mid-development.
SMT- 5 -Persona is Atlus' Final Fantasy Versus XIII/15.

This is my crazy alternate universe theory.

Honestly, I'd be pretty happy with an SMT IV "Director's Cut."
Add in some of the scrapped content that's still in the game's data, give it a shiny new battle presentation and throw in some bells and whistles.

I don't really think that grafiti tag with anarchist symbol art style would fit any kind of SMT4 Maniax Edition thing.

Probably not, but a Maniax-type upgrade is the only thing I can think of that's linked to SMTIV without being a spin-off of some sort.

I was pissed when it was announced for 3DS and I ended up loving it.

One of my favourite handheld JRPGs ever.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
IIRC, Famitsu teased a scoop for this week's issue, so...

I don't understand.

You are quite capable of breaking down a game's flaws and explaining them properly, but you can't seem to somehow understand why would people still enjoy something?

Maybe some didnt care about the flaws of the game compared to what they liked about it, maybe some didn't even think there were any flaws, maybe some just thought it was a solid game.

But no, it was just because its a platform exclusive.

What a stupid fucking thing to say.

I'll be the one to agree with your second statement. I don't think the "exclusive" part matters though. I think it's more lack of competition + unique setting + fantastic mood that results in flaws being ignored.

Play it again, and take the time to explore, use the d-pad to look around, especially in Tokyo. Talk to people, especially the ones in the random rooms in the towns and underground districts. You will be amazed at all the little details you never noticed. One of the best things that SMT4 pulled off was the little details, and how they add so much to the game. These range from little things like the protagonist saying "Burroughs" when you bring up the menu, to understanding nomenclature of places in the game. This one is a spoiler:
Near the beginning, you have to go to Kiccigiorgi forest, which is a bastardization of Kichijoji, an area of Tokyo (and the one you start in in SMT1). Shene Duque is another bastardization of Shinjuku, and this one is particularly interesting because Shene Duque was the "holy ground" where the coccoon that came up from the Shinjuku National Park landed.

I agree completely with you. I too wish it gets ported so I can finally see what a poor game it is without the exclusive sheen. I'm certain it's trash deep down, but because I'm such an insufferable Nintendo fanboy I can't help but love it because it is a 3DS exclusive. I think that also explains why I couldn't stop myself from buying the artbook. Because while I was shopping at Kinokuniya one day, I just couldn't resist it when I saw the book and remembered that the game was a 3DS exclusive. Damn.

Soundtrack?

Unless it's some kind of remix, already exists:

I can't see this being anything other than a enhanced re-release or a port if it's on the SMT IV site.

Like I explained on the previous page, it's on the SMTIV site because they are promoting the budget re-release of SMTIV in Japan out this week. That's what the tweets are doing, helping them promote that. They're using fans as viral to get the word out just before release, and to entice fans to help, they're using a new teaser.

Damn, Megaten fans touchy as hell in here.

I expressed myself poorly so I apologise. Reading my comment back that honestly wasn't what I meant to say, really.

What I meant to say what that on the 3DS where the standards of games are a little lower than on home consoles I think SMTIV got an easy ride. I think if it gets ported to a system with more competition and better quality games people will be more likely to call it out for its myriad flaws as a result of said comparison.

I mean, it's a bloody narrative RPG with
-A terrible combat system; (I will detest the press turn system until the day I die)
-A terrible world map;
-A terrible story;
-Terrible characters;
-Terrible pacing and
-A terrible difficulty curve.

How that can add up to a good game is 100% beyond me. I can usually see what others see in a game. With SMTIV I simply can't. It's not good, which is why I find myself casting around for a external reasons why people like it.

Incredible how truthful our subconscious can be. Let those thoughts bubble up to the surface and become your new reality.

It would be awesome if it was a 4 port or 5 announcement.

SMT4 is my favorite game this gen, it matches Nocturne for me in terms of SMT overall.

I think its less about our poor standards and more about your poor taste :p

3DS has a lot of competition in the jRPG space, and some of them from Atlus itself (Persona Q, Etrian Odyssey). I would not call any of those aspects "terrible"; of course the game is not perfect and has its flaws but if it's a terrible game I wonder what's not terrible in your opinion...?

The hell? The only disappointing thing about the game was it's horrible map. Everything else was perfectly fine. The exclusivity also means jack shit to me since I own pretty much every gaming platform (except for Xbox One for now).

Oh, and Press Turn system has always been excellent. You too crazy.

You have to use more adjectives than terrible.

I didn't think other people subscribed to Natureboy thinking.

lmao, the shit I read on this forum. it's a good thing I don't take everyone seriously

Dear Griss,

We love you too. <3

- Megaten fans

Haha. I hate to stir up shit, honestly, but this game was one of the few times I felt GAF stirred me wrong and maybe I harbour some resentment :)

I disliked the SMT battle system in the persona games which is where I first encountered it, but thought it would be utilised better in the mainline series (I played Strange Journey first). After about 4 games of it, I just dislike it and see nothing but flaws.

You just named one. I'm a huge Etrian Odyssey fan.

You have to use more adjectives than terrible.

Eh, the only pushback I've ever got from SMT fans on any of those criticisms is regarding the battle system. If you want my extended thoughts on the game, I made a thread here asking people to defend the game.
