Far Cry Primal announced: Trailer, PC/PS4/XB1, February 2016, $59.99

The characters are way too beautiful. I was hoping for some real deal ugly-ass prehistoric folk:

To be fair Ron Perlman has no make up on in that picture.

The setting definitely appeals. It will be interesting to see how they handle traversal across the environment.

First FarCry I'll be skipping. Guess I'm in the minority but animals and primal knife/bow missions were the worst additions to FarCry 3 and 4 for me respectively, and this looks like its doubling down on both so its clearly not for me.

Is this co-op? Or are you hunting with AI?

Agreed. That's actually the only thing I didn't like too much about the trailer.

I love the setting and all, but characters looking like modern Hollywood actors in terms of their whole physeology and even some nicely trimmed beard, that's a pretty big atmosphere killer for me. I understand selling a game with a half-monkey protagonist may be hard, but they could've tried to make the characters at least a little bit.. prehistoric.

Anyway, will still follow the game as I certainly do like the setting and Far Cry gameplay in general.

Yeah it's like "hey look, a caveman":

Well, the story synopsis says that the main character is the last surviving member of his own tribe. I could imagine that members of other tribes speak in languages he doesn't understand so they use caveman gibberish for them but he could still speak English. If that's the case, though, they'd be facing some serious storytelling issues as the character wouldn't really be able to verbally communicate with any other characters... I can't imagine the main character not speaking English, though (as cool as it would be if he didn't).
Hmmmm, that makes sense, until he learns the language I guess, hopefully the story and gameplay is solid.

Never played any far cry beyond 1 but this looks interesting so i might play it.

Is it the same day as Deus Ex?

Looks cool, my favorite part of the Far Cry series is the hunting to craft better gear so this is primed for a lot more of that.

Also the 23rd is going to be packed, this, Mirror's Edge, and Deux Ex.

Feels really crummy overall. No good feelings about this one at all. It's sad that they're milking the franchise, they could have taken the time to continue it's greatness.

It seems weird that this is a Far Cry game.
Hearing them talk about how they have to figure out new ways for players to get around without vehicles and how it's still Far Cry at its core, and such, makes me wonder about design decisions where they might have to reign stuff in (or out), in order to preserve that Far Cry core. I wish they weren't tied to that.

Still, it already seems more interesting than what I imagine a Far Cry 5 would've at this point.

It's a cool concept but maybe I'm the only one who thinks it could be incredibly boring gameplay wise. I'd love to be proven wrong but it doesn't seem like there's going to be much to do.

Idk. I never played the original Far Cry, but to me, Far Cry means:
- open exotic environment to explore
- open-ended gameplay, action, stealth, etc.
- different means of transportation
- an ecosystem

This seems to have that. I don't think guns or whatnot are necessary for Far Cry to be Far Cry

I'm very interested in seeing how they'll manage to make the same game three times in a row with this setting.

I am all for this. If anything it is refreshing to have an FPS without guns.

I hope it has much stronger survival elements than previous FC games as well, since it is the perfect setting. Having to worry about shelter, water, and food would be fun. Also there are a wide range of possible weapons. I am hoping to see bolas, nets, and traps for starters.

Hopefully a more full featured Co-op experience. I want to be able to go big game hunting with some buddies.

Also there should be a "valley of the dinosaurs" section. If they can do yeti, they can throw in a dinosaur area.

This seems bizarre and it's hard to believe this spinoff got as much polish as a full retail game normally would since it is being announced 4 months from release, is coming out the same day as Mirror's Edge and Deus Ex, and is not much more than a year after Far Cry 4.

far cry, as an ip, has never interested me enough to seek out a copy to play. but this? this sounds fantastic. looking forward to seeing how the actual game plays rather then cutscenes and heavily scripted stuff. i hope its a bit like the old xbox game BC in that they'll attempt to have realistic behaviors for the animals. extra points for no dinos.

And that is relevant to a game made in 2015, why?

Anyway, there is a woman in the hunting party and Ubisoft has been trying to be more inclusive lately. I'd hope they'd let you pick between male and female in a game like this.

Because the game's fiction occurs in 10000 BC?

Not that I mind if they ignore reality and put dinos and female warriors in there, but you know, saying it's not relevant because we are in 2015 is disingenuous.

So has pretty much every idea of a game coming from a major publisher. Were on like Cod9 and 7 or 8 Halo games deep. Are you upset that it's a game or something?

Even that aside, we're two months away from 2016 and none of those games have come out of early access. Early Access games tend to be janky as fuck and can be a real detriment to the idea behind the game.
Please look at the comments I replied to for context.

Honestly, how soon this is coming out, the setting, and the trailers so far all indicate that this is a pared-down Far Cry experience where they hope to get by on the novelty of the setting. No guns, ultralights, wingsuit, outposts(well, they might have that at least), etc.

I mean, the mythical throwback part of Far Cry 4, despite the cool environment, were the worst gameplay segments of the game for me.

I just can't see myself paying $60 for a a slimmer Far Cry experience.

I love the setting but this game looks like a quick job made after The Forest went in early access and the reveal trailer is not that interesting. Plus it has the far cry brand.

I want Wild, c'mon Ubisoft.

Yeah, this may get me back into Far Cry.

That last part walking through the woods with a torch at night has me sold, hopefully they improve the animal and human AI so they actually hunt you. Can't wait!

Perhaps this one will focus more on the survival aspect of things, try to go for a bit more "hardcore" gameplay mechanics like hunting [for actual food instead of inventory upgrades], build shelter, that sort of stuff.

You know, make things a bit less arcade-y.
