Sooooo will they do something regarding her and Phoenix's romance or will they tip toe around the subject as always?

This entire thing being about the Kurain doesn't really interest me a whole lot because it means at least one case will be A GHOST DID IT!!!!111!! and not really a big Maya fan to begin with

Still need to catch up on the games tho.
Yep. The only thing I hate about this series.

So I take it the plot for case 1 judging by the trailer is
the knife wielding dude tries to attack Maya and the kid and then something happens that causes knife-man to get killed and the kid accused of murder, but a fourth party is involved in the murder and is the real guilty party.
.

Happy that Maya is back though, the best assistant shall forever be the best assistant.

Maya is back! About time!

Now, was a maid costume the only option for a Athena's DLC costume...?

It's the Tres Bien uniform.

latest

Kinda goes well with Wright's Furio shirt, in retrospect.

Are these newer games only on 3DS? They sure look nice when they're rendered in high resolution in Capcom's trailers.

Wait, you're hating that "A GHOST DID IT!", even though a ghost never did it and nobody in the series ever thought a ghost did it?

The actual victim of case one doesn't look like Maya's attacker though. But maybe the attack on Maya happens at a later case?

Ace Attorney 5 had a pretty great iOS port that I believe used those high res assets that were used in promotional trailers.

I only played the original trilogy (up to T&T) and the spinoff with Layton (Layton is my main factor of playing that), should I continue straight to AA4 or should I play Investigations first? Is Investigations critical to the story?
Investigation 2 is one of the best entries, you should play it.
Just make sure you play 4 before DD.

Maya looking good grown up.

Can't wait for the game to come out in the West, hope it ain't a long wait.

I think it was only like 3 months difference between the JP and Western release of AA5.

Yeah, the iPad version is definitive. Unless you're really excited about low resolution 3D effects I guess.

I'm concerned about longevity though. Apple loves breaking old apps with their iOS updates and you can't expect developers to keep up with it forever. If only there was another high-end platform that didn't have to worry about longterm compatibility issues.

I'm an expert

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
Yeah I was gonna type something similar to this. It was interesting to see a character as a child be so excited about life what they wanted to do with it and then see them later not happy with themselves.

Tell me more.

Bad character that brings awful plots. Doubling down on the magic bs? I'm out (in particular since I wouldn't be able to sell the game). At least AA5 got it right.

Oh I must of missed the trailer/material where they showed off the first victim.

Some of the stuff in AA5 required more of a suspension of disbelief than just having Spirit Channeling being a thing in the games.

Saw thread title and got hyped. Then came into thread and reading all this Maya hate. She has always been my favorite character so this much hate is surprising for me.

This somehow doesn't feel like a proper Phoenix Wright game to me, I hope I'm mistaken, feels very filler at the moment. I'll still check it out.

It's one thing to "keep up with it forever", but Capcom literally dropped Ghost Trick on the first major iOS update.

I really miss Hobo Phoenix. At least with it looking like he'll be in this new country it'll be more understandable when he's caught off guard.

It was such a letdown seeing him in Ace Attorney 5 getting confused every 10 minutes after his freaking Rube Goldberg machine of justice to catch Gavin.

Haha, yeah.

Says a lot about the quality of the assets that even on the low res 3DS screen, it's one of the best and cleanest looking games the system has to offer.

For a couple seconds the trailer focused on
the portrait of the magician who went disappeared in Apollo Justice.
That gives me hope that this game will resolve that storyline instead of ignoring it outright. Which would make me much more excited for this game.

Pretty sure they've said that this game will address that plotline.

I'm talking about the spiritual aspects such as the channeling technique. Not literally "A Ghost did it!"

I agree. But if it wasn't iOS 8, it could have been 9 or 10. The iOS ecosystem is terrible for game preservation and you can't expect publishers to pay for compatibility patches forever.

Convoluted cases in the vein of Meitantei Konan is what I'm in for. Plus over the top courtroom fighting, for which I guess some small ,,superpowers" are still fitting. A single selected supernatural element taking spotlight at random occurences/murders however sticks out like a sore thumb more than anything else. It's like aliens in Indiana Jones. Sure, the series was always over the top, but that particular element is simply a different kind of over the top that doesn't fit at all.

ehh...AA5 had
the Phantom

Only
the technique of his masquerade should have been explained better. And it was clear that they didn't have a big enough cast, so his identity didn't feel like a natural twist. But that's a different problem than turning certain cases into ghost busters
.
If AA5 had certain aspects related to Maya, case 2 would have been a whole lot different.
fox spirit was actually real!!1

But what about it? It's not like it changes anything at how the characters logically approach the cases. It also was never used as a cheap cop out to trick the players.

Athena needs to get hit by a bus, and that bus needs to get hit by a train. And in the murder trial, Phoenix needs to question a parrot on the stand. A parrot who only says "Who honestly gives a shit? It's ATHENA."
