lol listened to him get interviewed by Simmons. Seemed like a pretty big douchebag to me. Surprised he got screwed by Stubhub though. They've usually been 100% solid for me.

Eh, I don't believe in fully judging people that we only know through TV and 3rd party accounts. Nonetheless, he had a reason to be be upset but took it a bit too far.

They can buy a boat on a whim though. So it's hard to feel sorry for them. The world is materialistic. That's life.

My sympathy doesn't hinge on someone's buying power.

So are you saying his actions were in any way appropriate? Or not? Because you can be pissed, but don't direct it at the wrong people. If his tickets were counterfeit, why is he entitled to anything at all from the event staff after they've explained to him the situation he's gotten himself into?

And I agree with that last part there, even though it wasn't directed at me. But you have to be a decent human being to be treated like a decent human being. It sounds like he lashed out at someone who didn't have it coming.

Appropriate? No
Understandable? Yes

I'd be furious, as well. Of course he took out his anger on the wrong person.

Well would you look at that?

Well sure, doesn't really help in the immediate situation, though.

Rich people are still people.

And people who abuse workers for these things are scumbags. Rich or not. When you're rich however, it's obviously significantly worse because while hey you're a person, but you're also a person who has a lot fewer burdens, and thus your willingness to abuse a worker makes you come off as petty and oblivious.

Dude may be an asshat, but I blame TicketMaster and the other major ticket selling companies; more and more recently any major event these days gets instantly sold out on TM due to scalpers/botters which forces people to go to secondhand places like StubHub for scalped tickets. This problem is becoming more and more widespread and AFIAK they really aren't doing much about it. They really need to crack down on this shit and tighten down how many tickets can be sold per card/person/address and add more captchas and try to stem this shit at the source. A few months ago I had a friend buying tickets for a rock concert and he was on TM waiting for the exact second they went on sale, he literally saw the button light up and tried to buy them and boom sold out. Mind you, while a fairly successful rock band this was not for like the biggest band in the world where you would expect an instant sell out. Then he goes on StubHub ten minutes later and there are hundreds of tickets at double the original selling price. It's fucking horseshit.

While it is a contributing factor, selling out isn't the sole reason. We had tons of people buying scalped/fake tickets even for shows selling at half capacity, where they could have saved hundreds of dollars by just contacting us directly.

It's largely just that people are uninformed, and don't realize that they're either on an unofficial site or that those sites are nothing but resellers trying to prey on them.

The real problem is that people are getting informed one mistake like this at time, and at the current rate it will happen forever.

Only time I've seen "do you know who I am" work was one time at Burger King - Cashier was being a dick, a guy standing to the side tried to come in and see what was going on, and the cashier snapped at him.

The answer to "Do you know who I am" guy was apparently "your boss". (Franchisee, so it doesn't surprise me the cashier didn't know who he was at first sight.)

not surprising... the "complain so loud management will be forced to let you in" tactic works a lot... especially if you do have some clout (like being a billionaire).

Bots are bad and all but Don't forget only 46% of actual tickets even make it to public sale

said:
The NYAG found that on average, only 46% of tickets are reserved for the public. This means a substantial number of tickets are never available to the average fan.

For most popular concerts, over half of tickets are put on “hold” either for industry insiders, such as venues, artists, and promoters, or are set aside for “pre-sale” events for non-public groups. On average, 16% of tickets are allocated to these insiders. “Approximately 38% of tickets to in-demand shows in New York are reserved for select groups of fans and cardholders of major banks and financial institutions, including American Express, Citibank, and Chase,” the report states.

The state of the “fixed game”

Ticketmaster has an axe to grind with Stubhub anyway. Obviously they're going to highlight the possibility of fake tickets even if it's a low probability.

Ok?

But why be furious at anything when you're a billionaire? That has to be a disorder

Rich people are still people.

He was not being creative, should have turned around and paid someone $5K per ticket and called it a day.

I'm trying to imagine the interest earned on a billion dollars during the TWENTY minutes he was arguing with the people there. It has to be more than enough to buy the best tickets anyone near him was holding.

Only certain kind of people get furious about trivial matters. And they need intervention.

But whatever, he denies what happened and I actually believe him

Wait, so if you flew from across the country to do [insert anything] and then were denied you wouldn't be furious?

I'd be absolutely livid, billionaire or not. It's a waste of time, money, and energy.

I probably wouldn't throw a tantrum but I would be fuming.

Everyone does, it's a huge problem in the industry. We switched off Ticketmaster a few years ago and you can still find disclaimers all over our website.

People are dumb.

But that comes from the Hamilton people, not the Ticketmaster people.

And when buying tickets, I always go for 100% probability and purchase through the venue or the venue's contracted ticket seller. Why risk it? If I'm not on the ball and the show sells out (even if it's due to the secondary market), then I'm not purchasing tickets. Simple as that. If it's something I really care about, I'll be on the ball, sign up for presale offers, etc. to ensure I get to see it without overpaying or worrying about legitimacy.

He strikes me as a man who will never be satisfied.

He just wanted to be in the room where it happens.

You could say he threw away his shot
at getting in!

Those were both great, you two made my day.

This is the only Broadway show I've ever had an interest in seeing. We have tickets to a Wednesday matinee in late August but I'm not an idiot and bought them through ticketmaster. This'll be my first time in NYC so it should be a fun vacation. Just expensive as fuck, lol.

No better post than replying to someone with "Ok" (apparently the post was not intended to be replied to).

You could just as well have said "I am not able to reply to this."

Your post didn't have a point, so my response was in kind.

This is correct.

Lol. I guess you never get mad at anything.

I bet most everyone on the planet would get mad at having accidentally bought fake tickets, after flying in to see an anticipated event.

Why does a billionaire need to go to StubHub lol. Buy real tickets.

^^^ LITERALLY THIS RIGHT HERE. SMH at a billionaire trying to save money on tickets on his birthday. I'd eat extinct dolphin on my birthday served with a side of virgin unicorn but instead this guy tries to save money on tickets.

If I'm alleged billionaire douchebag:

Average Joe and Jane ticket person: This ticket is counterfeit and we cannot let you in.
Me: *turns around
Me: *Offers 50K per ticket to anyone that offers us their tickets*
Average Joe and Jane ticket person: Thank you for your patronage and enjoy the show.

All I've heard about Hamilton on the news lately is how hard it is to get into, so I would have been at least "a little" suspicious of tickets that didn't come from the venue.

I can't believe the minimum wage ticket taker didn't make the decision to kick someone else out of their seats and give them to this guy. Shocking how mistreated we as customers are in this day and age.

Doesn't matter how much money a person has - nothing wrong with working to get the best deal. Blatantly wasting it is a surefire way to not be a billionaire, though.

You'd think a big important smart billionaire would know that you'll never get anything acting like a complete douche. Yes that sucks but he couldn't just hop online and buy new tickets and get refunded on the fakes?

Ah, Chris Sacca.

I believe it.

He comes across as a know-it-all on TV so I'm not surprised. The billionaire quip is not really necessary, though. Some people are jerks regardless of money.

It's more likely the tickets were sold out on that date and he decided to look on Stub Hub to see if anyone was reselling the tickets for that specific date. As Skunkers and others in the thread have pointed out, many sellers on Stub Hub will purchase tickets from the official venue and then resell them at higher prices to people who will be willing to pay those prices once the venue sells out (especially if it's a one day show/event). He probably paid a lot more money for those tickets than what they were worth, especially since they were "fakes" (probably the seller reselling the same tickets to multiple people).

He wasn't trying to save money on tickets, he was trying to get tickets, probably at a higher-than-face-value price.

Hamilton is sold out for months.

This is correct.

Uh, okay. It did have a point, you just didn't understand it. Your point that rich people are people too is pointless because people are treating him the way a person should be treated if they behave in an abusive fashion. Further, a person in a good situation should be treated more harshly because they are rich beyond most people's wildest imaginations, yet are as abusive (if not more so) than many people in worse situations.
