Playstation Network purchases to be taxed starting April 1st 2017

Why are all the Canadians freaking out?? LOL

Prices gone up due to the dollar going down, so the digital is more appealing vs. retail costs. Taxes are high here (13% in Ontario).

Also we were taxed before then one day they no longer taxed us. So they might add it back again.

Maybe this can explain why some states are getting email while others not? 💬

Man if this effects Canada, Fuck!! At least I am in Alberta so I only have 5% tax compared to majority of the country that are around 10-13%.

One of the only good things about getting digital games in Canada is the fact that they are tax free. If PSN changes this policy, I see me abandoning digital for the foreseeable future.

Oh God. I'm in Italy, ps4 pro was priced 409,99 € at launch. Taxes are incredibly high in my country. I'm starting to have fear.

I hope Canada isn't affected. I became a digital buyer since the Taxes makes the game here come to around $90 after taxes.

Also its really baffling people are blaming Sony for this and not realizing they have nothing to do with this. I mean would assume people here are in the right age to know how taxes work 🤔

I did not get an email, but I am also unsure where it says my account is (bought a PS3 while my residence was Missouri and now I live in Tennessee)

It's too be expected, I mean aren't we supposed to keep track of these purchases and submit the missing taxes at the end of the year?

Please please please please please not on digital purchases in Canada... we already get hit with 13% HST. In store. I wasn't charged HST on an iTunes song, but was charged HST on an App Store purchase...

First guy I thought of after reading the heading of this thread, Mike Rotunda. Well done on adding him in the post OP. The IRS is the scariest gang in America.

EU dude. All of our consumer prices come with taxation already accounted for (you usually have to look at the receipt to look at product price without taxation).

I got this too, for my US PSN ID. I'm registered in Ohio, which is a tax free state...I think? What's the deal there, how are they gonna tax me?

For PSN there is no tax, I was taxed for LIVE purchases when I had my XB1

Now imagine Portugal with the same tax and a minimum wage of 550 euros...

Any downside to changing your address to a fake address (ie. could you miss physical mail/packages sent to you by Sony)?

My country has a 23% tax, lol im doomed.

Tax would already be included in Europe. Value added tax is applied to everything. The regulation will evolve to become more standardized when you buy outside of your own country but that is it.

Rates in Europe vary from 17 to 27 % so somewhere around the middle.
