Did I dream or did I really see Tetsuya Nomura's name in the trailer's credits ?

EDIT : Yep.

Our team has no good character designer , so lets turn to ..... Tetsuya Nomura .

Yup , and this is the result of it .

You've been making angry posts all day shouting down people over negativity and whining about the sad state of the forum. Maybe it's time to step away from the computer and enjoy things you actually like before you meltdown more? Why read this forum if you think it's just miserable?

He designed only a single character in the game, and you act like Nomura doesn't draw good character designs?

Unfortunately, the UK trailer mentioned English only: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xksPVZptPGM

So its confirmed then, shit.

I want to play the game, but..that's a pretty big roadblock. Again, if the designs were reeled in more it would not be an issue, but i can't associate super regal british voices with kawaii uguu anime fanservice

sorry just venting. No one pays me any attention anyway. I'll stop now.

But to answer your question I read the forum because beneath the negativity there is some fun stuff....which makes it suck more for me. But again I'll stop my ranting and raving, don't want to be a hypocrite and ruin it for others with my own whining.

Although cheesy, I'm loving the VA diversity! English, Scottish, American and one that sounded suspiciously Australian...

I'm so tired of the same old US-Anime style voices, and the original was so refreshing so I'm incredibly relieved that whoever is in charge of localisation has decided to mix it up!

I don't think that's a confirmation for lack of dual audio. I think that is a disclaimer that for Europe they are not dubbing it in FIGS. Japanese already exists as a track so it's a question of whether they want to make it a toggle.

I don't know how I feel about Pyra being the blade of the MC but somehow she's very important with the story and at the same time not playable.

plot twist: she's setting us up

Considering Zelda had that backlash of not providing a language toggle with all the voices on the cart, I wonder if they'll change their tone sooner rather than later.

Hope they do. Prefer the advantage of hearing characters talk without the disadvantage of hearing awkward dialogue voiced (as I can't understand Japanese).

Awkward dialogue in text...I grew up with that. It has its own charms to me. Never grew to like it spoken so much, outside some particular cases (love me some MGS cheese).

But really, I can settle into questionable VO okay, for the most part. Just prefer not to if I don't have to.

Yeah, I feel like that appearing in the UK, French, etc. trailers but not the NA one suggests that it's just in regards to Europe.

None of the Blades are technically playable, yet we do see there are plot-relevant ones just like Pyra, so... I'm not seeing it?

She seems to have importance on the Zohar thing and she's different than other blades. Maybe she's got more to her is what I mean.

I'm still confused. From what I can tell, there are story Blades (waifus it seems) and there are gacha Blades. Pyre isn't the only story Blade. My guess is that through the story, Rex will encounter all the elemental Blades, who are important story characters, while the gacha Blades are just an additional optional system for bonus skills and customization.

Oh, that's a good point. I rarely use/want to use the original Japanese voices in games, but with this I might have to if it ends up being possible, just to keep my sanity. We'll see.

Is the blonde lady in the first trailer a blade?

Hopefully they give you all the option for japanese with english subtitles at least as a download if not on the cart. I know how happy people were when they added it to Zelda. This is something people shouldn't have to tell them from Zelda they should already know better.

The music is the main thing I'm sold on. I trust it to be good.

I also really like Monolith worlds visually. I'm pretty dumb wrt graphics, so I'm not really seeing the world as disappointing like some are. Can't engage that debate. Idk. I just like their vistas and strange geological formations, so it pleases me in that way.

Not sold on the character art but I'll live with it.

Not sold on the battle system. It seems it still has the hitches with regards to combos that make me yearn for better, more controlled/purposeful synergy. I do think they do role-playing fairly well so it's not all bad at all, but...always leaves me wishing it were tighter designed.

I'm on the fence about the blades. I think it is a cool idea that could make changing roles intuitive and easy on a character. And as I said, XB can offer distinctive and interesting move sets and roles. But I really want more information on just what they do and on how they're acquired.

They added it to Zelda?!...so wish I'd had that option for my playthrough...Hylian sort of preserved, for me.

But yeah, give me sword waifu for every color of the rainbow if it is between them and gacha.

Seemed green didn't like red? Or who was she mad about? (If I'm even attributing the right line/voice to her).

While we're on auto-attack, didn't they change something according to the treehouse folk?

Iirc it was that you can't move and auto-attack? That's an attractive change to me. Find your position and move when aa chain is done, rather than anytime.

Green's just afraid of getting burned

I missed it, but someone said that's the case, yes. Not sure about the change myself yet, but at least it adds to the weight of the combat. I hate the "swish, swish" floatiness of the original's combat.

Seriously?

Battle system is very similar to that of Lightning Returns with how you switch between blades, schemata of LR basically. Commands from blades mapped onto the face button, and you swap between three blades in combat, like you swap between schematas in LR, 3 of them. Sounds familiar? Now, in all fairness, I think it's looking better than previous Xenoblade's combat at least, but that's not saying much because they refused to actually make the combat free of auto-attack shenanigan, which I really, really disliked.

Auto-attack is now a combo. There's a small hit, medium, then strong and you can't move between them or it will break the chain.

Why would character design in a Xenoblade game be a pass for anyone? The last two games were all about the world, the exploration, the story (well, the first one anyway), and the combat. They had bad character designs too and it didn't stop all that other stuff from being great.

The last two didn't have characters so offensively ugly. Except maybe Lyn. Most of them the were just meh. You could easily ignore them. These are a real turn off if you're not into waifus.

The art designer seems to have trouble with pants
Seriously, wtf

All I'll say is that they are out of their fucking minds with that main character casting.
Seriously, WTF!

WTF is going on with the main character having a Yorkshire accent?

That must be the worst most inappropriate, most poorly matched VO I've ever heard in a japanese video game.

Christ...
SERIOUSLY, WTF!!

Weird, they just said in tree house live that they are still polishing the graphics of the game.

First time I think I heard Nintendo talking about stuff like that.
Nah, Nintendo says that stuff all the time. They've been very open that graphics are like literally the last thing they focus on during development.

I like the fact that she is taller than the guy.
I wonder how often this happens.

I don't think she is? Look at her feet. They're not even standing on the same plane.

I don't know if it's about "likes waifu" or not. Waifu come in many shapes and sizes.

Sure half naked magic girl tied to you inextricably is one shape and she can take many physical forms, some of those good art, some bad. That's separate from the problematic nature of the character type, about which, well, we'll see how bad Pyra et al are if/when we play the game. Might rise above type, might not.

There're also waifu that have more attractive character shapes to people "not into waifu."

So while I agree with you as to not liking a lot of the character art, I don't think it's because I don't like waifu--I do in certain instances--it's because I don't like the art. (I get that you didn't use a biconditional, but just highlighting that this might come apart).

I do find it bland/tastelessly sexual. But I don't dislike all sexy or cute girls in games, so it really is a question of tastelessness wrt sexual and blandness not just sexual period, in my case. And again, this is further somewhat separate from being a waifu.
