Hm, after reading some reviews looks more difficult than I suspected, will wait for a sale with this one. I just don't want to risk paying full price if even normal difficulty will be way too infuriating to me.

Reviews seem to be knocking the overall handling, which is worrying when considering the overall play of the game. I really wanted to day1 this, but I think I'll hold off for now.

I came up until the fight right before the boss, the trial and error isn't as fun as Hotline Miami nor is there really a way to work out a tactic since it's open areas with a bunch of dudes shooting at you, there's a lot of chaos of frantically dashing and bashing in hope for a health pickup only die die anyway.

Maybe I'm not getting how it's suppose to be played but it's not clicking with me and it's just frustrating doing parts over and over again.

Control complaints? That's a bummer. These games live and die by pure mechanics.

What does the control feel like? Anything like Hotline Miami?

It's like a faster paced Hotline Miami in which you have to basically keep dashing to avoid bullets and dudes, you also have a bunch of skills like energy shields and such, probably a lot more later on but the super dash and shield are the early game skills you get. My main problem is probably because the shooting doesn't feel good to me, it isn't accurate and it's hard to aim in the chaos. There's also a shit ton of guns that drop which you can pick up and use so you're constantly picking up and switching weapons on the fly, I like the minimal arrange of weapons of Hotline better.

Nothing wrong with the controls imo (with a controller atleast) . It's a twinstick shooter and controls like one.

When you finish the game you can go to the level select. You start each level with your abilities from the last time you played. It isn't labelled as New Game Plus but that's essentially what it Is.

Okay....so the reviewer in the IGN video was correct. Thanks.

Man the second bounty is a doozy, things were pretty easy up to that point but the checkpointing makes you fight like 6 dudes and then the boss right after.

Feels like doing melee is a lot more effective than using guns because of the hit stagger.

Wow at guns not feeling good and odd controls. Are those issues game breaking? Was really lookin forward to this on pc.

Any word on ultrawide support as well?

The Eurogamer review got me interested in the gender politics, the slight sexism of the game sounds like a turn off. Seems they were going for a confrontational attitude towards the player like Superhot but got some unconscious bias to pit women with negative portrayals. I don't see as much an issue with your main girl calling you puppy and all that, but the prostitute gang, mother boss, etc doesn't sound great. Gonna play it for a couple of hours now to see where is stand on the politics side.

That IGN review... :/
They same that game is too difficult, even frustrating. Anyone else can confirm this?

I got frustrated but that's kinda subjective really, wouldn't call it too difficult really, the mechanics are just a bit of a mess at first glance.

Game is very
fucking
hard on Hard.

There is a weird lockon for aiming. If you're not locked on you probably won't hit with a ranged weapon. I don't like that at all. Too many times I feel like I'm aiming in the correct place but I wasn't locked on so my entire shotgun spread misses.

finally

this son of a bitch crapped on me repeatedly.

I had to respec a bit to kill this guy. You're free to swap out abilities and whatnot anytime. Maybe I just suck, but I find this game really tough, I have not played on other difficulties though.

It's difficult, but not really frustrating IMO.

I got through normal difficulty pretty easily. I didn't keep track of deaths, but I'm going to guess maybe 30 or so.

I started my game this morning on the difficulty above normal because it said recommended by the dev. The game seemed challenging, but I took it as me getting used to the learning curve. Should I be playing normal instead?

IGN also said Furi was infuriating at times. It may be, but like the Souls games, or Hotline Miami, or whatever... I feel like a bit of frustration is part of the experience in games like these.

I really disliked Furi's "lives" system. It added a pointless amount of grinding to the game. Almost every boss I got to the final phase with all 3 lives, only to lose them on that phase, and then have to redo the entire fight that I beat first try again... not very fun.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

If it gives IGN reviewers fits, chances are it's the kind of game I want to play. Overcoming obstacles is satisfying.

I'm in for easy difficulty, then I can always replay on normal. I'm a sucker for Cyberpunk and this game just looks gorgeous. Combine that with a quest/dungeons based structure and I'm sold.

Eh, idk, I'm big fan of both Souls and HM as you mention them, but I felt that Furi's handling of difficulty was all wrong.

Rygar 8 Bit

Jaguar 64-bit
just got through the first main fight
the aoe stun ability and upgraded slow time make this game pretty easy if you are having problems i would suggest pumping points into them you can just aoe stun the boss and beat the crap out of him and repeat its pretty broken

Definitely decided to wait on sale or even HB for this one.

Furi was kinda frustrating to me and i sadly never finished it. Like someone else mentioned it just doesn't feel fun. So this being also very difficult doesn't sound like what i need and want to play rn. (Cuphead is releasing in 2 days).

Really ? I feel it's far more fair than souls /shrugs. For every single boss I felt I was steadily increasing my skills/ muscle memory until what used to be unfathomably difficult felt reachable at every try. Many bosses in souls borne I defeated with something that felt like a fluke that could not easily be replicated. I certainly can't say I could beat again the last boss or bonus boss of blood borne dlc consistently

I don't find it super hard so far in Normal through the first major boss. Like someone else said the stun is useful. There is also a healing power that is very useful

Of everyone I've faced on Hard difficulty thus far,
Captain Bogdan
gave me the most trouble.

I managed to work out a strategy though.

Something worth noting is that even if you use up all of your energy, you'll always recharge one block after a few seconds.

I'm finding the game much easier now. I recommend playing on Hard for sure. It will make you grasp the mechanics better. Planning out dodges is very handy, slow motion is amazing (as I figured so), and respecing is normal for bosses. For instance, an upgraded shield allowed me to a boss very easily. The boss required a shield, so I died at first because I didn't even have one point in that ability.

I see someone mentioned the stun ability, haven't used it yet but I don't think it's necessary.

Haven't played it yet but I expected it to be hard. I mean isn't that the point of games like Hotline Miami?

Also fuck IGN. I'm waiting for Karak's review.

I thought the hub area music sounded similar to something Susumu Hirasawa would compose for Berserk, and then I noticed the "Her" character had a Berserk pin on her jacket.

Good shit.
