Had I played this demo first I would have not purchased the game.
Playing a 2d game with analog stick is a hard dealbreaker for me.
You can't even change your buttons properly without needing to use the stupid at console level method.

Sure but analog in a 2d game....
Waiting for a rom to download and i'll swap analog with D-pad.
Should give me 16-32 points of range. More than enough for aiming

uhm... on a Dpad you literally have exactly 8 angles. I have no idea how you came up with 16-32

also you will need to remap more than that. Left Stick click = Speed Booster

You do you I guess but the game feels made with the full range of motion in mind.

Also you realize your avatar is of a controller made for playing 2D games with analog input, right

I plan to make several changes to the controller.
...don't know why I said 16-32 but will set D-pad to analog in Yuzu and see where that goes.
There is probably some gimmick that makes you aim at a very specific angle.

what you could do with the right controller mapping tools is that as soon as you use the right analog stick you program it to hold down L (aim lock) and map the right stick to the left stick at the same time.
that way the right analog stick would act like an aim stick, that as soon as you move it you stand still and have 360° aim

then the L1/LB/L button would be freed up as well (could be used for speed booster for example)

You're gonna have a super hard time killing EMMIs without analog input, and a harder time than you need to simply traversing the world and discovering secrets. Most of the bosses will become much harder, too.

Why fight so hard against the way the game was meant to be played? Is 2D so thoroughly entangled with 8-way input in your mind?
the NES Advantage has no analog input... Stick =/= Analog
True, the visual was just too tempting to not poke fun at.

I know I have a Switch in a zippered carry case somewhere. I last touched it sometime before summer. Wonder how many updates Ill need.

D-pad within a 2d space is hardcoded in my blood.
Moving with an analog stick on a 2d plane is blasphemy.
Why they forced aiming AND moving on 1 stick is beyond me.
There is 3 options and they decided to put 2 functions in one. >_>

What they should have done was make D-pad movement, precision aiming with the left stick (since you HAVE to stop and aim anyways) and map function on the right analog stick.
Not very far into the game is right stick even used for anything?

Would be nice to have D-pad aiming and precision aiming when required.

I used to be of the same opinion but I had to get used to control stick movement with other Metroidvanias like Shadow Complex and Strider 2014. If the option is there like in Bloodstained RotN or the Ori games I prefer Dpad, but it’s not that hard to adapt to.

Playing Dread I’ve been using the WiiU Pro controller with an adapter. The sticks on that controller are pretty short, which works well for Side scrolling because you get quicker movements than a taller stick and still 360 aiming.

I'm glad they did this, the game looks and plays better than I expected. I won't pay $80 for it but I will look to grab it on sale sometime.

It's not that weird to now release a demo think about it.

Anyone that was a huge metroid fan had already bought it on day one so a load of sales would be from that but what about people that are maybe new to metroid or ones that have played the older games but are not sure if the new one is for them. That's who the demo is for, lets them try it out with zero risk.

Downloaded it and that's a lot of cutscenes in the first bit. Made it to the robot thing.

Was planning on picking it up regardless but it's nice to check it out first

I agree with you that using analog stick for 2D movement always feels wrong. It's just never going to be as snappy as a directional pad for lightning quick left-right alternation, thanks to having that additional motion on the axis. For instance, I generally hated the "side scrolling" 2D parts of the Mario Galaxy games because using a stick just doesn't feel right at all for 2D platforming.

I do respect the analog aiming on this game, but in that case it would be more ideal to separate aiming from movement in the controls, so that movement could be with digital input and aiming with a separate stick.

Thing is, you can also aim freely (well, except behind you) while on the move in this game. If we used the right stick for that we would no longer be able to shoot or jump or counter while aiming and running. The combat is pretty fast-paced in this game and demands precision, so these suggestions really don't fit the content of the game.
