Tom Warren: Insiders are backpedaling because not many inside MS know what Phil will say

Its done guys. It literally makes sense to pivot at this point. Nothing else to say. Series consoles and GP were a last try at a golden age in gaming, and a resurgence of AA diversity, and consumers rejected it.
I'd say the problem wasn't them being AA, but being yellow Metacritic quality. The problem isn't being AA if the quality is like Stray, Sifu, Ken or Pentiment.

Or well, maybe the price.

My guess is he is negotiating with Nadella and Hood walking back some of what they had agreed upon at least initially.

What they wanted to do was to perform a soft landing. Slowly get people used to the idea that their games were hitting other platforms rather than a Sega, we're discontinuing Dreamcast even within this generation standpoint.

2003 saw not a single Dreamcast release.

Imagine owning a Dreamcast and yet you don't get NFL 2K3 and even the gamecube got it.

I'm sure Microsoft has already slowed shipments of Xbox hardware. You can't just reverse this. Retail already knows what is up, they're not going to take more units and end up holding the bag on them.

It looks like they have slowed shipments already. I haven't seen the black 1B series S in stock for ages, unless it was a limited edition.

I saw the thread of the Xbox fans losing their minds, selling their Xbox consoles and buying PS5/PC etc and it got me thinking.

This is really bad PR for Microsoft and Xbox. If there was no weight to to these rumors then Microsoft would have shut them down instantly. Instead, not only have they not shut them down, but they've decided to let them continue for a week?! Surly this is having an impact in sales? Why let it continue if it wasn't true?

if people in Xbox don’t know what is happening, why is the head of Xbox doing an announcement next week? If he knows, surely at least the higher ups know.

None of this makes a lick of sense.
Tom Warren did say most people within Xbox don't know, so some do know. Top brass at Xbox will know what's going on, or else that would crazy.

What Tom actually said was that people within XBOX don’t really know what MICROSOFT is going to say/do….the wording is key.

Think about it. 🤷🏻‍♂️
That sounds like a drastic change is in the works.

If people within Xbox don't know what MS is going to do, it's not a good sign at all.

People also really shouldn't ignore that 100M GP sub target by 2027, set by Nadella, for Xbox to be continued.

aw don't be so grumpy

I wonder if the dudes who sold all their xbox stuff would come back if the announcement is just a load of new games coming to xbox LOL

Wow. Hold up. You're actually blaming the consumer!?
Then why in the name of all that's Holy are Nintendo and Sony steaming ahead still?

No its 1 big steaming pile of bad decisions, years of lying, no clear roadmap etc. THATS the problem.

Why blame a consumer for not buying stuff from a company that doesn't know what it wants to be?
It's common sense.

It's just straight up denial.

The only real "fact" here is:

It was enormously stupid to put a week-long wait on this
While this is true, no doubt there are some high level discussions going on about what Phil can and can't say, what MS's strategy going forward will be (as in, how do they gain back trust etc.) maybe even get their legal department involved (to cover their own backs) they will also need to film his response and let all the internal departments know what's going on as many will be just as in the dark as we are.

So I get it, but he could have said more just to help calm things down.

He can't say more if most of the rumors are true.

Of course no one knows.

It’s a multi billion dollar division within a trillion dollar company. A handful of individuals will be aware of what is going to be said.

As if some fat dork in Wisconsin, who films YouTube videos in front of a wall of He Man characters, is going to have the scoop.

Well he can he's really good at being vague/stretching the truth.

He could have said his line about certain Xbox games going to other platforms line again and that nothing has changed in that regard. That's what he'll say next week anyway. And mention that XBox hardware is not going anywhere (read that which ever way you want)

That's the thing though, he's probably not allowed to confirm anything to avoid more confusion and feed the flames even more until they come out with a proper announcement.

But denying is no option.

Well let's wait and see shall we but don't be surprised if this has been blown waaaay out of proportion and all we see are a few more (maybe higher profile) games coming to PS from Xbox first party and that's it.

The main topic is that people expect a few titles soon, which will inevitably speed up the downfall of Xbox.

Everything else is just knee-jerking and background noise.

Need to start a bingo card.
I’m thinking Phil’s announcement will include: tears, apologies and throwing someone under the bus.

It was a cool attempt to offer consumers more games at a lower price but sadly they rejected it. People prefer to pay $70 for a single game than $10 for 5-6 games.

It's interesting how all of these insiders were on this train after MS laid off all those people. Because no one ever laid off ever wants to hurt the company that laid them off by being vindictive and spreading BS to hurt that company.

Now they're finding out the "MS employee" who told them this stuff could've been lying so they're quickly backtracking before Phil can debunk anything.

Nuggets of information were coming out long before the latest batch of layoffs.

Yea but a day after Phil Tweeted you're seeing people backtrack. They probably didn't expect MS to say anything and wanted to ride the wave of outrage/confirmation bias clicks/engagement.

You don’t wait weeks to debunk a rumor, that’s just stupid. They could’ve went out and said “we do not comment on rumors” like every company does but they didn’t. Hence why they acknowledge there is some truths to these rumors.
