I just finished listening to that GWJ podcast with David Ellis and wow, what a fantastic podcast it was. The way the dude was discussing how he could play it with his son was very nice to listen to. The story discussions were also very entertaining. Lots of very apt criticism but also some spot on observations.

I can see someone having that opinion. It has terrible gameplay and visuals, but at least the multiplayer has somewhat of the soul and overall design of a Halo game.

VGA's just announced their nominees for Game of The Year. Halo 4 is nominated in the categories: Best Xbox 360 game, Best Shooter, Best Multi-player Game, Best Graphics and Best Performance By An Human Female (Jen Taylor). 343 Industries is nominated for Studio of The Year.

Really would love to see 343 take Studio of The Year, Halo 4 was a big undertaking and a challenge I believe the pulled it off well.

Telltalle is up there though as well, loving The Walking Dead episodes.

Not sure where I'd place Halo 4 next to my other GOTY picks. Its improved in a lot of ways, but it falls short in some unexpected ways too. Still having a blast though.

Its probably Mark of the Ninja and Borderlands 2 for me this year though.

Skyrim is excellent on PC and decent on Xbox. It's a big shame on the Playstation version being so bad but they do produce good games

Skyrim on PC is the Godhead in gaming form. Fucking spectacular.

I've never been able to get into Skyrim, or really any Bethesda game like it, and I think it's the lack of consequences that sours me on it. That is, being able to join opposing guilds at the same time and no NPCs being the wiser rubs me the wrong way.

Man, it seems like a petty thing when I write it out... But whatever, it really ruins the world for me.

There are things that Reach does that I really enjoy more so than H4:

1) Armor design choices/helmets/coloring in Reach is above H4's offerings imo.

2) Campaign had a great pacing for a game where you knew what the ending was before you even played it. Had some fantastic replayable levels like the night of solace or whatever the night sniping mission is.

3) Campaign theater mode. I snapped up pictures like a mofo!

4) Reach had Arena, and while not perfect it was a great offering when the game first released imo.

5) Reach had a much better executed final level/ending scene than H4's quick time event.

So yeah Reach has things going for it that Halo 4 at release does not. Multiplayer wise though I think is where H4 shit kicks Reach, and to me that's where it needs to matter most so I keep putting the game in day after day.

OH! And Reach has create a challenge on waypoint. Why is this not in H4?

After 50 hours I kinda soured on skyrim. Despite enjoying nearly everything the poor questing structure got to me. I much preferred oblivion and Morrowind in that regard.

As for Halo 4, after not liking MP much initially it's growing on me. Staying as far away from Infinity slayer as possible has dramatically improved my views on the game. I'm still one of those weirdo's that likes Reach more (I <3 bloom), but now I think it's down to a hair of difference at this point.

I know GhaleonEB plays multiple characters and does one or two guilds per character that's always an option. Skyrim was the first Bethesda game that ever clicked for me. Keep trying different builds one should click for me it was then Archer type but once again I got smiting and enchanting under my belt I was force to be reckoned with.

No. I was pretty amazed when I first played Morrowind, and I still love that game; but since then their general approach to open world design has been lacking. I only played through the tutorial area and I haven't touched the game since I tried to kill the Nord I tagged along with, only to have him bend down on his knee for a bit and get back up like nothing happened. Not that that's why I stopped playing the game or anything haha, but I haven't been instilled with the confidence that Skyrim really stands out from anything Bethesda's done already other than being newer and shinier.

Morrowind is a god damn awesome game. Probably my second favourite game ever.

I personally think they pulled an itagaki with mw2. They knew they were leaving so the game was rushed like itagaki did with NG 3. Also they set the foundation so treyarch can thank IW for that. Don't forget COD 1 and 2 either.

BigShow and I both have it. I'm having fun with it. There is some bullshit though, but that happens in every CoD game.

I'm having fun with it. It's a cluserfuck right now because people are still learning the levels, but its like that with all CoD games. I can already see more and more structure as people learn the maps and angles.

I just played my first League Placement match last night and went 21 and 5 with a bolt action Sniper and a Semi-Auto FAL.

It's a very well made CoD game with a ton of great features; in-depth online stats, lots of MP maps, skill-based and ranked leagues and ladders, and a nice Custom Class creator.

It's Call of Duty, so it's going to be frustrating at times, but what are our alternatives at this point?

The past seven days have easily been the worst week of my life, pain-wise. (Thankfully, pain is temporary, so I wouldn't compare this to a "worst week" of job-ending, life-changing consequences. Life is still good, overall.) I had my wisdom teeth removed and it turns out the penicillin they gave me to prevent infection in the empty sockets has a nasty side effect: canker sores. I've been out of work for a week (finally returned today) and only left my apartment twice - once for a post-surgery checkup and once because my friend drove my drugged-out ass to see Skyfall (excellent movie). There was a stretch of three days where I could only sleep for four hours at a time before my painkillers wore off and mouth pains woke me up. My sleep schedule is still very screwed up.

If I've been short or distant recently, that is why. I'm feeling (mostly) better now and should be back to taking care of HaloGAF.com-related business. Sorry for the delays, I know there are a lot of people waiting on me to ship out prizes and update the gamertag list.

Jessica's Waypoint stats write-up is amazingly lengthy and deep, but it essentially reaffirmed to me how awful it is. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but the Waypoint stats for Reach have a superior layout. There is no way to view a page of all the medals for War Games, and even more unbelievably there is no way to view all my War Games weapon breakdown.

Said this the other day in a gaf lobby. The Reach stats pages are very usable now and formatted in simple elegance. Why, then, is the Halo 4 stats page such a disaster? Scroll bars in the middle of the screen? Only showing last five games played in game history? No deaths, only kills? HAVING TO FUCKING SIGN IN TO VIEW THEM? Very disappointing.

Really excited for Snipes but really bummed out by the map choice for the playlist, Snipes is always fun on small to mid maps as its all about fast paced jump shots and skill. On large maps it turns into a camping and waiting game.

Halo Snipers doesn't need to be like real life snipers and is more fun when it plays to its arcadey strengths rather than trying to be realistic.

Learn hiding and sniping spots on maps, not only to provide cover while firing, but to check for enemies when surveying the battlefield.

'Hiding' is shitty in snipes. Fucking Hemorrhage all over again. I get the feeling from that statement and the map list that 343 just doesn't understand Team Snipers. Same for Frankie

Snipers is supposed to be about camping and abuse.

It's really not. It certainly wasn't in Halo 3, other than people lingering on the outskirts of Sandtrap (A map that most high level players hated in snipes) and maybe Pelican clinging on Valhalla. Standoff was abusive and was therefore removed.

But many amazing small-ish maps for Halo 3 Snipes:

Guardian
The Pit
Narrows
Construct
Blackout
Assembly
Citadel

Glorious.
