From 98Q local radio station Facebook page.
Danbury Police are looking for a PURPLE or MAROON VAN in connection with the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Armed passengers inside, one possibly in a nun's costume. We're hearing that van was heading towards Danbury. DO NOT APPROACH...CALL 911 ASAP.

Wait, what? Is this just a radio station being tasteless, or is this *really* weird?

You sound ridiculously bitter. Children are considered helpless and among the most vulnerable members of society. It's not that no one care about the teachers and staff.

Bitter? That's some funky juice you're drinking. Bitter about not being in this terrible situation myself? I can't even begin to try to apply any sort of logic to your post.

Some of these kids are basically scarred for life.

Let's not get too carried away here. I witnessed a shooting at our school when I was in 3rd grade (I think). I can barely remember anything about it, and when talking about it with another friend who was there, we had our facts all wrong when we looked up the article.

Not the thread for it though, so I'll stop, but again as horrible as it is, the kids won't remember it long.

If watching movies has taught me anything its that assuming the role of a member of society that people don't pay attention to or don't ask questions about is the best way to escape a situation. But, yeah, that is kind of odd.

So how did the gunman end up dead? If he targeted the Principal then I wonder how he did not end up killing him. Did the Principal kill the gunman, the police, suicide?

Multiple people have been killed in a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dickinson Drive.

Police said some of the shooting victims are children but it is not clear if they are among the dead. They were still searching the school at 11 a.m., and police dogs had been brought in.

State police personnel led children from the school, following the shooting.

Shortly after 9:40 a.m., police reported that a shooter was in the main office of the school. A person in one room had “numerous gunshot wounds,” police said.

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers. Some students were still in the school at 10:30 a.m., parents said.

School and local emergency officials are accounting for the children, who will be released to their parents to get them home. A staging area has been set up at the Sandy Hook fire department, directly in front of the school.

Frustrated parents are trying to get information from officials, who are still actively searching the school.

Eight-year-old Alexis Wasik, a third-grader at the school, said police were checking everybody inside the school before they were escorted to the firehouse.

"We had to walk with a partner," she said.

One child leaving the school said that there was shattered glass everywhere. A police officer ran into the classroom and told them to run outside and keep going until the reach the firehouse.

Dozens of state troopers are on the scene assisting local police. Heavily armed police gathered in front of the school around 10:45 a.m., and a number of stretchers were set up.

Area hospitals have been alerted.

Andrew Doba, a spokesman for Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, said the governor is monitoring the situation and is in “constant contact” with state police, who are coordinating with federal and local officials.

Afternoon buses and kindergarten has been cancelled.

Check back for updates.

Well I may have exaggerated, if anything maybe the next few weeks. For the ones actually witnessing a fellow classmate being shot, who knows.

So much for good Friday, bad news always leaves a soul taste in my mouth.
Any word on who did the shooting and why?

No your right, and my experience with it and its effects on me are different than somebody else.

My point was I don't think it's as detrimental to young children as it would be a young adult or adult.

As much as I personally think US gun laws are ridiculousl let's not use every opportunity to blast them

I'm English and I remember when I was 13 or so a guy went to a school in Scotland and killed loads of kids (tennis player Andy Murray was there actually)

Nut jobs are nut jobs are nut jobs and yes it would be harder to get hold of guns but in some of these cases they would still be acquired

It's been like that for decades though, and we didn't have constant mass shootings like every few weeks. Something more is involved, something with society? The economy, people wanting to be copy cats?

I think there's just more publicity. Violence and even deadly violence is still decreasing year over year.

With more publicity for these acts and more screen time for each occurrence other attention seeking sociapaths will go on more sprees to get the same attention.

The Danbury News-Times also reports sources say the Sandy Hook School principal was killed in the Newtown shooting.

At least three people were wounded and are in "very serious" condition at a hospital in Danbury, Connecticut, that town's mayor, Mark Boughton told CNN. He couldn't say whether the victims were children.

I'm for one not calling for a ban on guns.

Better control would be appreciated.

True, people kill people regardless of the tools.

Wouldn't it be better if they had less effective tools?

What's the solution for getting illegal firearms off the streets?

I hope this isn't true
