Yeah the terrible sales mean I'm enjoying the ride as much as I can because we'll probably never get something like it again.

Thankfully.

One of the most disappointing shows I've ever watched in my life.

On the positive side the Psycho Pass numbers are pretty decent.

Is it? How so?

It's kind of like the difference between Apple and Google. VLC just works but it also locks itself into a walled garden of self contained everything. MPC-HC is just an updated version of Windows media player, so you can do whatever you need to do with windows codecs, ffdshow, etc. to get your video to play.

That comparison is better made with mplayer, not VLC. VLC is more like Metro.

Meh. Nothing really remarkable.

Now this is more like what I came for. I don't know if I would call the budget allocation stellar, but they seem to be putting all the frames in this episode. A lot of decent cuts and good drawings throughout, they reduced the cartoonish shortcuts by a fair amount too in place of actual facial expressions. The script is not the best, and the direction wasn't anything to speak of, but man at least the "emotional" moment at the end wasn't totally retarded since the characters were properly acting. I thank whoever did that shot, it wasn't super stellar but still ten levels above the rest.
I liked that they introduced a different dynamic for this one too, the show was needing it after repeating nosebleed gags and the like a million times, with little variation. Last but not least, loli Kyouko is moe~!.

Yuru Yuri 12

It was... okay I guess? Is it a trend with comedies to make the second to last episode the climax, instead of the actual finale? They also put all the animation on the previous episode. I thought it was better than the bulk of the show, but didn't hold up to 1 or 11. That explosion near the end stood out though, it was nice.

So I'm guessing S2 has much more sakuga, since I've seen it in MADs quite a lot and this one didn't deliver all that much. Going to start it later today.

Take it away then. kayos90 hadn't heard of MPC-HC before and I assume their interest is in maybe trying a different player. I guess you'd have to know more about kayos90's setup to ensure proper outputs, especially if they have a hardware dolby decoder in their receiver or something.

Working on getting caught up on this after my belated Steins;Gate viewing. Trying not to let my expectations get out of whack, but so far I like it. Character-wise, Kona is probably my favorite so far...hard to believe she's voiced by the same person who did Nunnally in Code Geass (Kaori Nazuka). But I love the performance here :). The story's keeping me going and I'm certainly looking forward to where it goes.

mplayer is known more in unix-land than in windows, but for a long time if not still, its development was tied to ffmpeg through libavcodec.

A skit on cleaning the bathrooms was so awkward and gross, never wanted to ever imagine, Sakura or Hinata ever doing that. Lord Orochimaru getting all excited from the toilet or rather that water style jutsu was hilarious.

Yagyu and Hibari relationship is ok. Hibari can't be weak all the time.
Katsuragi is the male of the group.

The training episode was ok but I want to see more of the bad guys.

I won't have you speak ill of ___ ___, I'd take a lao hu future compared to the current state of sf.

The infodump in ep4 wasn't bad. Gave answers when they needed it, and it delivered just enough to set in place all the stuff that would follow, anyways.

Yeah, it was really well delivered. It didn't even really feel like an infodump to me, because the whole episode was really all about the characters and their reactions to things. The music during that scene, and the expressions on their faces and how they reacted to it, it was all crafted as a character piece first.

I suppose the only argument I can make about ep4 was that it basically told me to walk away and chalk it up to SyFy being SyFy. Although, I guess I did watch ep5 to see if any of that exposition mattered and from what I remember, it really didn't - other that the one immediate revelation that actually impacts the characters anyway.

It does all matter, though, in the episodes that follow. That episode set the ground work for a lot of later character development and discoveries.

Still. If only I was able to get the #IV D-type Tank pre assembled and painted.

Oh well.
Pretty much. Even if I could successfully assemble it there's no way I could make it look even a tenth as good as what it does in the blog pics.
If you are interested in the tank model in itself, Dragon Models Limited is the manufacturer of those kits that PLATZ, lets say... "repackages", so keep an eye on their Dragon Armor series of fully assembled pre-painted models (http://www.dragon-models.com/d-m-releases.asp?tl=DRR) in case they are interested (and I'm sure they will!) in releasing on their own a PzKpfw IV Ausf. D one you can buy and use your Anglerfish Team decals for!

Because the world is a horrible place. :( Of course it means there'll never be any figures to buy.
The most mega of bombas, unfortunately.

Those are some quality wives.
i think it's better when a show provides you an ending like that . Marrying for political & economical purposes is much better than a " choose one , let the others cry " or a " not choose " attitude.
I will say, creating a justification for a harem ending is hilarious in a way. I suppose the fact that they're all adults, even the loli (it's SyFy after all), is something that's old fashioned as well... considering all the shows set in high school these days. lol

Ooh, the full early list already, this hasn't happened in a while.

Interesting to see it still selling. Are we expecting it to get any higher, or is this about it?

Having just watched Lincoln and hearing previously about the intro, I found episode 4 to be a clumsier version of what Spielberg tried to do in trying to sum up Lincoln's (spoilers?)
emancipation proclamation and the Gettysburg Address
. In that film, it felt like a summary for the people who don't know anything about history more than anything that helped build Lincoln as a "character".

The problem being that in SSY, there's a lot more information being given to the audience and that there's no real context for the characters' reactions to this information. Heck, there have been throwaway episodes of CBS cop shows where some kid learns that he was adopted that had more emotion behind it.

At the time, I think I compared it directly to the scene in The Fifth Element where Leeloo learns about war and human suffering for the first time and essentially has the same mental breakdown. Now, acting aside, I just think having a minute-long (if that) scene served that movie much more inasmuch as the focus isn't placed on the dump of information (let's assume that the lowest common denominator person watching The Fifth Element knows nothing about human history), but on how this character's innocence is shattered by learning about the human capacity to create pain and suffering.

The thing is, as I also pointed out, the scene directly references this iconic image of war:

At the time, I questioned the ethics of using such an image in an art piece, inasmuch as this is a real event and that is a real human being that died. But ethics aside, trying to remember some of the images they used and how they delivered the actual infodump, with a montage of scenes and a slow narration, I quite wasn't sure what they were trying to evoke in me on an intellectual level.

By directly invoking Vietnam, am I supposed to treat this as another human cycle? That as a species, we deserve everything that happens to us because we fail on so many fundamental levels and are bound to repeat our mistakes? Am I supposed to deconstruct the pseudo-H.G. Wellsian future which has essentially set up the Eloi and the Morlock relationship in this imagined future?

If the scene doesn't work for me on the emotional, visceral level (and that's saying something when you consider Jovovich as an actor :p) or on an intellectual level as a Scifi nerd, I'm not sure how else I'm supposed to access the scene.

Keep in mind that when we were all watching episode 4, there was no promise of "it pays off" that you might have now with hindsight and based on the 5 episodes that I did watch, there was no indication that this would work at all in any of those episodes.

Is this not something that you should watch the rest to find out? This isn't the denouement of the story. The point is that the infodump is entirely new information. We are supposed to see how the gang reacts to it, how it informs their worldview and their reactions to the things which will happen in their life in the future.

Personally, I think that in the invocation of the Vietnam imagery you're supposed to note the brutality of the situation only at this point. And in my opinion, the thoughts you have above are both valid interpretations of the series. Clearly it's provoked an intellectual response of some kind in you, even if it didn't work for you emotionally (and let's face it, the limited animation while Mamoru weeps in terror in episode 4 isn't that evocative) - obviously if that didn't arouse your curiosity to a sufficient extent to continue with the show that's one thing, but I'm surprised you weren't interested in seeing what consequences the show explored from that point.

From a point of view of innocence, have you ever read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (or seen the film by Mark Romanek)? There's a key scene in that where the high concept "twist" of the story is explained to a class of young children, and they have absolutely no emotional response to it at all because their environmental conditioning is so strong that they kind of had an idea about it all along. I see the children's reactions in SSY to be something similar.

Speaking of avatars, /XX/, yours are always quite interesting. I truly never know what you're going to sport next!
This and the previous one spawned thanks to the magnificent hand of Paco Roca. I already tried to show some love for him here on this forum, for his novels (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=27196209&postcount=183 or http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=31751000&postcount=202) and even for the animated adaptation of Arrugas he collaborated in (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=34539299#post34539299), because he is worth of every praise I can muster.

Sometimes, for artists I follow and at moments I'm enjoying greatly their work, I have the urge of wanting to sport some illustration from them as an homage, even if it isn't necessarily related to what I specifically enjoyed.

That tank image is such a tease. Luckily I'll be happy just displaying it on it's own.
This is certainly relevant to my interests. Thanks for the reminder ;).
I'd like to get the full tank as well, but it's already sold out on AmiAmi. I guess I'll just have to look elsewhere.
Still. If only I was able to get the #IV D-type Tank pre assembled and painted.

I don't think I'd have a problem assembling it, I built a few Gundam kits when I was a kid, but the painting might be a problem. Though I'm sure I could learn how.
the last shipment of GuP vol. 1 is planned for mid-Feb, so it will add some copies.

So it's probably going to level out at like 25,000?

Guess I'd have to commission you to build one for me :p. Last time I tried to do anything like that (an Enterprise-D model) didn't end well.

Hmm I gave up on the Soul Eater anime sometime after the medusa fight at the party. Do the other deathscythes show up?

I feel like there's more deathscythes, but the episode right after the Medusa fight has the Christmas Cake, Justin Law and girl with glasses show up.

Best outfit in the show spotted.

Dat poverty play day montage.

Iori. Good. Hibiki. Good. Yayoi...Good episode.

Well, considering the character, I was surprised by how well the episode turned out even if the spotlight was shifted later on
(Yayoi/Iori episode?)
. In any case, one of the best episodes thus far.

hahaha Maybe. It has been a long time since I've done anything like this though. It's probably best if I practice on my own first, if I ever get one.

If it true what I read about the next shipments then it should be a little more than 25k, yes.

Though I would love to see the sales for the different model kits. The Type 89 (or the coming Type 3) for example is even for non-GuP fans pretty interesting.

Man, you don't even hang around this parts much and dropped your avatar... are you planning to abandon us? :-(

well, I'm just more interested in the game section of the board now.
