Just another sad story of how the Japanese are conditioned to sacrifice personal goals and desires because they have to devote themselves to the organisations that they work for. It's basically like Hataraki Man.

I was reading about that before. Its messed up how much stuff new hirees have to do to suck up to japanese employers. To be honest, it must be pretty amazing being young in Japan with all the entertainment and cool shit and a nightmare growing into adulthood. Which is probably why so many of them refuse to grow up and leave the security of home. I dont blame them at all.

It was a lot better for me since I watched it before I was told it sucked.
Also before I saw Fate Zero and REALIZED FSN sucks lol.
Think I would have liked the ending more if I had seen it before Zero.
Could also be that I marathoned Zero and21 episodes of Stay Night then didnt finish for about 3weeks.

I marathoned the entirety of Fate stay Night in one sitting. One exhaustive sitting during a summer break. But back then I honestly really liked it. I will always like Saber and Rin and Ilya was adorable calling Berserker to fucking murder people.

So, here are my final thoughts first for the episode, then for the show.

The last episode was in some ways, very standard. Mecha piloting young man grows up and rescues the woman he loves. You could joke that in some ways it, like all mecha, cannot escape being akin to EVA, this time being somewhat like EoE. You could say a lot of things.

What I will say, though, is that it proves that the conventions of Mecha anime are not bad. Not inherently. When done properly, they can endear a story and its characters no matter the initial reaction to the plot.

So no matter the arguments in favor of the last episode being text-book, it is well done in my eyes, because the show took the time to lead the viewer to that point, so that what happens is not "Oh, how cliche" but something natural. It doesn't leave the viewer dissatisfied or upset or questioning or wishing it was somehow different. It ends
happily ever after, The End.

As to the show itself, allow me to first begin again by saying I was wrong about this show. It has a slow start that really grates, but after that awkward moment it never really falters again.

The cast will certainly be remembered. Holland and Talho make the full trek from wretched human beings to genuinely likeable characters, the other members of the Gekko State are interesting at some point or another. The designs are colorful and unique across the board. Eureka's children are awful and should have never been, but beyond them, not a member of the show's cast is really "bad" by the show's ending. There are no shameless yaoi fangirl bait characters, in spite of the strange costumes worn by Talho and Hilda the fanservice is kept surprisingly out of the picture, and the show is free of such other annoyances as plague the likes of Gundam AGE.

Renton x Eureka, being the centerpiece of the show, takes a good long time to grow on the viewer, but when it clicks into place at the end, it clicks wonderfully. They, more than any other characters, grow perfectly over the course of the show. Renton going from the relatable dork to a confident young man is done with subtlety, and Eureka's humanization is treated with care. What I really enjoyed, though, was the reality with which the relationship was handled. That Renton and Eureka had no idea about what a relationship was like, that it took them a long time to say they loved each other, that physicality was treated with the hesitance of people their age. It was something at once very realistic for young people, and at the same time free of the label "High School".

Eureka Seven is a very good show. It does not unhorse FMP! as my favorite, nor does it dethrone MSN as King of Mecha, but it can sit itself down in such treasured company as The Big-O, and when other Mecha shows are exposed for the common, vulgar rabble they are, it need not ever feel such shame.

So I ask you, Anime GAF, just as I did when I finished MSN: Is it worth it to watch beyond here? Are Pocket Full of Rainbows, Young Lovers, or Astral Ocean worth checking out at all? Are they only disappointing for not being as good as their predecessors (GSDestiny, for instance) or are they truly awful?

It's been a good ride, cowboys.

I actually saw all of E7AO despite not seeing much of E7 but Duckroll seems to abhor the movie and refuse to acknowledge it exists. thats a really bad sign. ALso E7AO itself is only really watchable if you enjoy Chiaki Omigawa as a token otaku character. (which I do, damn it)

Avoid the "sequel" and the movie. Just leave it as it is. Trust us on this lol.

Glad you enjoyed the show :)

Your thoughts on Renton and Eurekas development is spot on and one of the things that made the show so memorable to me. It is genuine.

But the promise of more Renton and Eureka . . . but remember Prince of Darkness . . .

When you watch Ao, just don't expect the same kind of attachment at all.

Coming off of E7 you're probably going to hope for it, but in the end all you get are a couple bittersweet moments and some cool looking robots. The cast is neat but never fleshed out. The antagonist sucks.

And Goddess Chiaki Omigawa is the best.

Also that was a pretty anticlimactic fight. The guy has been alive for 100s of years yet gets dropped by Kouga who just learned about 7th sense.

So glad you came around in the end Corvosol. E7 does take a while to start clicking into place but once it does boy does it ever deliver.

They will take a big steamy dump on everything you love. Avoid them all like the freaking plague or just watch some sakuga MADs on youtube if you absolutely must.

And Goddess Chiaki Omigawa is the best.

Oh Thoraxesbro, I knew you couldn't be all perfect.

Seriously though Corvosol, just move on with the sweet memories of E7 in your heart and know that it doesn't get better.
There is much more to watch that is far more enjoyable and wont destroy the legacy of what came before it.

Its on my backlog. RIght now Im working through some Sailor moon and probably more K-ON!!. Also I want to draw a bit.
Trying to remember what all people requested lol.

I know I wanted to make Ritsu with cat ears, someone else wanted Mio and Ein together in a picture, and Extollere has a certain idea in mind that I shall not utter outside of PMs :D

So which one of you that gonna come to my house to strangled me if I'm saying I enjoy Xam'd more than E7?

I actually like Xam'd, the opening and ending songs were the best in anime history!

1080p video and animation quality were superb, I liked Nakiami way more than Eureka. Only bad part was Akiyuki didn't end up with Nakiami like I initially thought but paired up with Shirley...

SO many mixed messages! I'll probably skip AO for now and come back when I want to scratch an E7 itch. But I think I'll at least check out PFoR.

How often do these things pop up in SRW, though?

Don't even bother with AO. It's not even fun in a so bad it's good way. It's just bad. It just stomps on the good times of the original and brings nothing really that interesting to the plate. Outside of the final 2 episodes, it doesn't even have any good mecha action. Just a total waste.

Incidentally, this show has reaffirmed my wish for more episodes of Full Metal Panic! It'd be nice to see Sosuke and Kaname's relationship reach its point in FMPSigma.

Everyone used this cap, didn't they?
I have a blast with this show. I like it best when all the girls are there, though that might be because that means there's zero chance there won't be and Azusa or Takane. They really are a cut above the rest, they're by far my favorite characters in this show. No wonder they have such large assets.
I'm not going to post a new list as it hasn't changed, and I'm starting to doubt it ever will in any significant way. Then again, I've only just begun, so I shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch.

Maturity, bitches.
Finally, she came in! It was quite the delay, but looks really good, so no complaints.

Also The Adventures of Mark Twain because you should watch The Adventures of Mark Twain.

(Seriously, go check it out.)
My, that was quite the delay. I honestly thought you had her already and I was wondering why you were posting another one HA HA. Hope you got the special classroom floor base.

Oh and as for Mark Twain, I saw a clip years ago about the devil. It was rather interesting. Maybe I should check the whole thing out.

Well, king conformist that I am, 8 of my 10 votes made the top 10. And Wasurenagumo should have made it too, so that's on you guys.

Random reports from an 8th grade Japanese classroom:

- As part of English class, we had the kids poll the class on certain things. One group polled "What's your favorite anime?" The results were (from my memory, so I may have missed something):
  • 1. Kuroko no Basuke (10)
  • 2. One Piece (6)
  • 3. Doraemon (4)
  • 4. Dragonball (3)
  • 4. Chibi Marukochan (3)
  • 6. Anpanman (2)
  • 6. I don't like any anime (2)
  • 8. Sazae-san (1)

Coincidentally, basketball was polled as the most popular sport.

- I saw one student reading "Shin Sekai Yori" before class. It had to have been pretty new because the cover had anime art on it. Seems like he was just starting it. I hope he likes it.

But the promise of more Renton and Eureka . . . but remember Prince of Darkness . . .

E7 AO is not made to satisfy those promises. It's a bad enough show as it is, but if you come into it wishing for that you are going to hate the time you waste watching it.

Both with marriage fantasies.

And funny enough, both shows manage to be about nothing. I suppose Seitokai no Ichizon has this apparent ending that it is building toward.
