I stand by my word: Tsuritama sucked.

I dropped it after the first episode; could barely stand to watch it. The visuals are headache-inducing. Usually the most emotion I can muster up for shows I don't like is "meh," but Tsuritama was a full-blown "ugh."

O.K. guys, I'm intrigued! Could you tell me what happened without spoiling much, please? Some kind of hint, or anything...

It's a real culmination of the series moment. Not an endgame feel, but a touch on elements the series has been building up to. You've got: a serious, serious look into Gintoki's character with a bit of backstory fleshing, an all out battle with CONSTANT rises and twists to excellent, excellent pacing; one that even ends on a note that's a first for the series, and more tsuki/gin shipping fuel, which just makes everything better.

It's the standard reaction to almost every serious Gintama arc. lol

So much manliness.

This one is actually pretty different. Definitely the most personal of arcs we've had in a long time, which is a shocker given the troll way it started.

Gintama 260

First half: eh

First 5 minutes of second half: oh hey, cool stuff is happening.

Last 5 minutes: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Well, remember, the number to beat is 1,487. Not saying that it won't pull in those extra 250 sales at some point in the future, but it's not quite there yet, and we might never see it technically rank on the charts beyond this.

There's the DVD version!

Sweetest ending since the invention of donut. Approved by Nobume.

Main character showing that bankai is for posers.
Sound nice! Thanks guys. You know, I thought the previous arc ended pretty recently so I didn't expect something to ensure such reaction from you this soon.

If it wasn't so difficult to start over a series this long from the beginning...

I shouldn't be surprised that this exists, but I am. It has a pixiv tag even!
Day after day it is becoming more difficult to not find any fetish you can think of as a tag or pixiv Encyclopedia entries. We should organise a contest so everyone can search for ideas to include on it and see them drawn, as a challenge to every artist at pixiv!

Well, it's been on hiatus for awhile and it will surely go on hiatus again soon so you have plenty of time to catch up.

4chan is always right!

Man, such a good show. Every time I think about it, there's a small part of me that wants to buy the BDs.

Well thanks for that mood killer! lol

Is Soranowoto even a happy ending?

It is pretty clear the war stopped because the alliance/federation submitted to the empire. Rio is being whored out in the place of her dead half sister to stop the war
.

Especially something this fantastic. When you have all these shitty pandering shows selling 10-20k copies, and From the New World is getting around 500 copies, something is really wrong.

The target demographic for From the New World and the anime buying public in Japan don't really overlap. Or rather they only overlap to the tune of 500 copies. It's not really the kind of series that's "for them".

Thanks again to Articalys for organizing and working on the Anime of the Year voting and anyone who might have helped.

---

While we're waiting, Disney has released Paperman on youtube, so everyone who hasn't seen it should watch it.

Thanks for this. With the mentions it has gotten as well as a couple of gifs posted I was interested to see what it's like. I'll have to give it a watch later.

Speaking of Paperman, whatever happened to that vampireweekend junior who had the Paperman avatar? He plunged headfirst into the thread for a couple of days and then just vanished, but that's not unusual for new juniors. We've gotta protect Moonlight, BriseFlots, Zach, and the others.

I had thought of them as well. I also noticed that it's been a couple of weeks again since PoeticProse22 last posted in the thread.

That would explain the force that made me vote for it at number 2. It was destiny.

It was nice seeing some shows like From the New World/Shin Sekai Yori getting some recognition but just the way that worked out for AKB0048 I still think is a pretty amazing coincidence. Almost like destiny as you mentioned. It would have been even more amusing if it had gotten 48th place with those 48 points. It did get 38th though so that's kind of close I guess.

I don't want to switch avatars this week :(. I said I would switch every week, but this week's Tamako Market wasn't as visually impressive as last week's and the shots of Tamako aren't as cute this week. It was still a very nice episode even though I thought the last one was better. I'm tempted to use an avatar for the grandpa...

I was thinking your avatar was pretty cute and wondering what might come up this week and if it could possibly top it, haha. It looks like that didn't happen so another week of megane Tamako is fine by me. :)

Thanks for this as well. I was wondering if Articalys would jot down or list all the honorable mentions just to see how many some shows got that had already placed and just to see which shows at least got a mention so that some might be interested enough to want to take a look at them now.

Hurry up and get to Banner of the Stars/Banner II for more Spoor awesome!

Haha, I'm working on it. I don't really marathon shows like many posting here seem to.

This anime keeps giving in terms of doing whatever the fuck it wants. lol

It's a :firehawk happy ending. The world is ending, everyone knows it, and they just choose to live out their lives as best they can.

(ABF would disagree, but he doesn't come in here any more. lol)

Also interesting to point out is the VERY late airing time on a channel that puts this series in-between 'infomercial' blocks!

True. He mostly posted about currently airing shows, though, so... could be that he isn't watching anything at the moment?

Yeah, I know that.

It doesn't stop me from being disappointed at it not finding more of an audience, though. It's always sad when such a thoughtfully made show utterly fails.

Windy Tales 4

Hey, look, it's the cutest thing ever! Daaawwww.

So she did learn it after all. I was starting to wonder if this show was just a bunch of unrelated short stories about the wind, haha.

That was too nice ;'D

Some shows have found that an international release does better then domestic sales. Not a total write off for the studio yet. The seisaku iinkai may still be leaning hard on the next distributor.

If you already know the characters, you don't really need to start from the beginning.

Technically, to watch the (current) Courtesan arc, you just need to watch these:
Yoshiwara in Flames: 139-146
Red Spider: 177-181
Baragaki: 244-247

And have a basic understanding of the premise of the show. But they really sum up all the shogunate stuff fairly well in the arc itself anyway.

Every Gintama arc is good. Every srs bsns Gintama arc is just godlike. I think this might rival Four Devas for me.

Plus some awesomely haunting(?) sound tracks.

That and Gin showing how to use a wooden sword made out of a 10,000 year old diamond wood tree.

Edit:

I like how these episodes leave people who usually give in depth posts near speechless.

Depends how they finish off the arc for it to be a consideration in my eyes, the way the Four Devas arc ended with that transition into the ED song was emotionally flawless.

Every time I watch Four Devas, I start crying at that ending.

But then again, we're probably going to get something very similar unless Gintama suddenly gets extremely grimdark and turns into a hardcore funny book for adults or something. lol

The Yoshiwara arc is far more emotional, I almost cried when I saw the little boy
running around with dildos
