Yeah, it's pretty refreshing when you consider the coverage Miyazaki gets everywhere else nowadays.

Miyazaki movies sell in the bajillions. Miyazaki has 3 movies in the top 5 biggest movies in Japan ever (Spirited Away, Howl's, Mononoke) and 4 in the top 10 (Ponyo). The list actually gets more ridiculous if you filter it to Japanese movies only. Everytime a movie of his is shown on TV, it gets guaranteed ratings.

All the press, local or western, love him. Oshii is right, everyone thinks he can do no wrong.

Actually, it looks like the source pic tracks back to something from the otome game Starry Sky.

Saki_ Achiga-hen - Episode of Side-A - 14

This episode was freaking amazing !
Saki_%20Achiga-hen%20-%20Episode%20of%20Side-A%20-%2014_01.jpg

Look at her blushing
Saki really has a huge amount of female pairing in all direction but really this episode was extremly incredible.
I do like the gimmick of the restrictions/reservations but this episode while amazing and full of cameos really set-up for such an incredible final match i really need ep 15 like right now

is that a rape face ? it looks like a rape face .

Saki really uses the sports shonen gimmick to their full potential from each player habilities to the mind break and mind trap they use.the look in each player faces "she dared to ignore the win and declared a riichi !" and you see her realising she has fallen into a trap is incredibly priceless and well executed.

This show is fun , good fun , entertaining fun ... nevermind that it's also a yuri heaven ... i can't wait to see ep 15 !

Well, he does make good movies, but honestly is he really the best? I'm not sure. But he had his utlity in making mangas acceptable in wetsern countries.

What film launched him into this huge popularity? I've always thought that Takahata is the better director at Ghibli and he should be more acknowledged, but he doesn't do as much work as Miyazaki, so I guess that was a given.

the issue is that he cant do no wrong. Oshii however is correct on his assersions that Miyazaki is holding back. In a way he has to but in other ways he tends to realized that he has certain limations that would screw with the pace of the story.

Mononoke did in the states. the oscar win was for his body of work.

In Japan? I'm not really sure. He was probably really well known after Nausicaa and Cagliostoro which is why he decided to put up his own studio. Although I think it has to be Totoro or Laputa that made him synonymous with anime.

Easily the best episode so far, like virtually over 15 minutes of screentime dedicated to the best character and his various dilemna. I can only hope he manages to get high enough courage in the end and be successful in his endeavour. Worst scene:
the girl trying to get in the way of him confessing, as if she was trying to hog tamako for herself, what even?!
.

Don't be hating on best girl just because she put your chump boy in his place!

Millennium Actress

This was some great stuff. After seeing it, (and being this is the last Kon film I hadn't seen) I can safely conclude this is Kon's finest film. The script, direction and overal vision behind this film were all superb. Everything was connected somehow and the visuals were pretty cool too, not paprika levels of visual flair but that helped it more than anything as I don't think that would fit this particular film. This film is about the story of an old actress seen through her life roles and filmed by a long time fan and unknown to her
co-worker
the way in which scenes transition so organically and are thought out in a way where not a single element of this film feels wasted is most impressive. Definitely a film one should at least watch, more so if he is a fan of Kon's work.
I see that Aniplex decided they didn't want to play along. Probably figured their minimum prize would be rather expensive.

This is Satoshi Kon's best as well as my all time favorite anime movie.

Windy Tales 5

I got completely hypnotized by this episode's dialogue. If only most real life people were as interesting and fascinating as this show's adult characters.

Next week's episode seems to be a little on the srs bsns side, going by the preview. Nice.

So I was bored tonight so I attended an anime club meeting at my school, and I was exposed to quite possibly the greatest anime ever. It involved some guy turning into a dog (because he's a dog god) when he feels immense pleasure. And to him, immense pleasure is masochism. So this God lady is whipping him and making him drink steaming, boiling water to turn him into an adorable dog.

Didn't catch the name, though. Can somebody identify it for me?

Hyouka 11.5
I have reached the promised land. Best episode in the whole show.
Oreki really is easily swayed by the physical charms of a woman. He's not even immune to his sister's assets. Even the mystery was fun as it almost felt like they were making fun of the horribly asinine mysteries this show has had so far. I'm not the only one who thought the white stuff on the girls ear was... Never mind...
Do you know what would make this episode better? Irisu in a swimsuit. Doesn't matter what kind, just something.
I guess everything is down hill from here.

It's really bizarre that they relegated episode 11.5 to being an extra because if you skip it suddenly Oreki's sister is home and he's no longer depressed.
