According to reports, the 52-year-old Gifu city man was arrested for child pornography offences after allegedly selling computer generated images based on photographs of an actual minor.
The “CG” phrasing used in reports of the arrest is ambiguous as to whether 3D computer generated imagery was involved, or whether it was instead 2D imagery created using a computer art package.
Police say the arrest is the first in Japan of its type, although as usual they do not provide much in the way of details or any explanation as to why it was suddenly possible to make such an arrest when there has been no change in the law.

I imagine the reasoning behind the CG stuff being illegal is because otherwise the bad guys could download real CP and when caught, say 'I thought it was CG.' It's a sensitive area, but it's pretty much legal to own and import. The law that would make something like it illegal isn't very solid. Imagine a horny 11 year old boy drawing a crappy picture of him having sex with his 11 year old crush. Now imagine him being sent to child prison for it, because it's considered child porn.

Regardless of how icky someone feels about lolicon, I'm completely baffled by anyone that has an opinion that's different than this.

It's the perfect convergence of crime without a victim, waste of legal prosecution, takes away resources from actual criminal investigations, clogging up the prison system for a non-violent offense, ruining someone's life, and the horrible ramifications of arbitrarily associating that someone with ACTUAL child pornography regardless if like most people, they'd vomit from thinking about it too much.

Well. what exactly is "normalised" here in your opinion? The sexual "deviancy" is, as far as we know, pretty much determined by genetic factors (IIRC, other factors aren't completely out of the equation, but it's mostly genes). So paedophiles can't really do anything about being attracted to children, but they can refrain from acting on it. Now, if there's a harmless alternative suited to, well, their needs (and no one is harmed by some drawings), what's the problem? It's not like anyone will become a paedophile by looking at the drawings, just as nobody turns gay by watching gay porn (note that I'm not equalling paedophiles and homosexuals or the "morality" of them acting on their sexual preferences, just the genetic origin of it).

So, the "problem" in my point of view is that the sexual needs of paedophiles can't ever be fulfilled, as the preferred partners can't consent. Thus, giving them the "next best thing" would be something good. After all, paedophiles aren't the problem, child molesters are. And there's a pretty big difference between them.

I don't like these drawings, but they're harming no one, and as long as that's the case, well, if anyone finds a a use case for them, that's their thing. But you certainly cannot excuse any abuse of actual children with "but the pictures showed it's normal", that is for sure. Just in case someone thinks I want to defend child molesters...

When's the last time you met an 8th grader, heard them speak and said "yeah, that's a mature adult who is emotionally, mentally and socially developed enough to make sexual decisions without being used or being caught at the losing end of a misuse of trust and power."?

Well, I just meant physical attraction. I don't agree with the notion that that someone that much older should be with someone 14 or 15. At 16 however, the age gap can be lessened I think. And many in their 20's aren't "socially and mentally developed" enough either...like physical appearance, mental matureness varies heavily between 15-21.
