Jane the Virgin S2 |OT| Mex Education

I'm with you. If Michael is dead I'm done with the show. I doubt he is though, since they didn't show the body. The Rose thing was dumb. How would Luisa not know she was wearing a rubber mask when making out with her? Also wasn't there a face off with Rose and the women cop earlier in the season? That's a jump the shark moment.
Now that you mention it, that might be a plot hole.

I don't remember if Susanna was there when Rose was in pursuit, but if she was, I guess the writers could explain it away by saying that it wasn't actually Rose, but rather a facially altered decoy who was shot, lol

You made me look it up lol

Speaking of Rose, things got really crazy really fast when Michael hatched up a plan that had Luisa fake a car accident so that Rose would visit her in the hospital. Rose did, and just when it looked like Susanna would be able to arrest her no problem, Rose kicked things up a notch by telling her that her associates on the ground would kill Susanna’s family immediately if she did anything other than escort Rose out of the hospital unharmed. Insane, right? And that’s not even the half of it: Susanna was shot during a struggle with Rose over her gun, and for a moment, it seemed as though Michael had lost yet again. That is, until he found Rose strangled by blue silk ties in a hospital hallway. Looks like Mutter got to Rose before Michael did!

Huge plothole. Also the show veered off the road of being based in reality when Rose ripped off a rubber mask that Luisa made out with and believed was real.

This show is very well-plotted, so I have every expectation there's an explanation for that. They plan things in advance.

This is probably the most consistent show on TV, quality-wise. Can't wait to see what comes next.

There are couple of threads from these plot twists that S3 will likely address via flashbacks:

- the true nature of Anezka's arrival and her scheming with her mother

- what happened with Rose's "body"

I'm pretty sure we'll get a plausible (by TV standards) explanation, because every twist so far as been given ample reasoning after the fact.

There are going to need to be alot of flashbacks to explain this :p I don't see any way they can tie it together. We know Susanna was bad from the beginning due to the flashbacks in the season finale. Why the fight in the hospital if they were in on it together? Why threaten her family?

Man. You really think he's dead?

Nah, he's not dead. But what was the early in S1 prophecy about him being a detective as long as he "lived"? So I like the amnesia idea. It allows Team Rafael to regain ground. There was something akin to that, and I think the "Michael as a cop" theme, along with multiple dirty partners, has been played out. I don't see we see Detective Michael chasing Derek and Rose in S3, but I'm not sure what role's left for him.

Both of these raise the interesting question of just when, and during what scenes in S2, it was actually Anezka instead of Petra or Rose instead of Susanna. I mean, isn't it probable that after Susanna was shot and likely taken to the hospital that Rose took over? Just because Michael thinks Rose was Susanna from the beginning doesn't mean it's true, and wouldn't it make more sense that Rose would see an opening before exploiting it?

As smart as she is, I highly doubt she can successfully impersonate a cop, including all the basic bureaucratic cop stuff, with perfect accuracy. Susanna and Rose were taken to the same hospital, and that's where the switch occurred via their surgeon minion.

Or maybe Luisa was high, because come on, rubber mask instead of complicated face altering procedures?

Is it necessarily the case that Susanna was Rose from the beginning?

I really have to rewatch that episode. Thanks, free iTunes S2 download!

EDIT: Beaten by Advocatus Diaboli

Well they showed flashbacks in the finale of season 2 going back to when I believe she was introduced and she was working against Michael from the start. That still doesn't even go into the ridiculousness of wearing a mask that looked exactly like a real face that was indistinguishable to people, getting shot, the body of Rose appearing elsewhere in the building, and other things that make no sense.

EDIT: Beaten by Advocatus Diaboli

Yeah, well, we're both beaten by Jennie Snyder Urman (http://www.ew.com/jane-the-virgin-season-2-finale-postmortem/2) ...

Q: Was Rose always in disguise as Susanna?

Urman:
She was always Susanna. She fabricated a backstory and everything. She was first after the… money, and once she got that, then she could focus more on her heart. Everybody’s heart burns for someone on the show, and Rose and Luisa both believe on some level they are meant to be. It was a two-pronged plan. One was the practical and one was the personal.

That's the biggest plothole to me!

Just caught up on the last two episodes and I'm kind of disappointed and at the same time elated. There were so many plotlines I was kind of guessing as to how they would end (since this show isn't exactly subtle about foreshadowing), and I hate being right on so many. However, this show tends to be better when it revels in the ridiculousness of the telenovela, so that's where the happiness comes from. Just my take on it.

We'll see where S3 takes all these dangling threads. It should be quite a ride.

Rose literally constructs life-like faces for a living, there's no reason to believe she couldn't do the same for herself.

So basically they just retconned that whole hospital scene? That's pretty bad.

Just caught the finale. Wow, didn't see that coming. Poor Michael, poor Jane, poor Petra.

I really hope they tone down the hashtags next season. It's used way too much. The only ones that are funny are the #RegisterToVote ones, IMO.

Did you not remember the standoff in the hospital where Rose threatened Susanna's family and shot her?

That woman wasn't really Rose, it was just a person with her face and voice. That sounds idiotic, but that's just the sort of show this is.

Rose must have sent a fake version of herself to work with Mutter. Think of her as
Venom
Rose, or
Punished
Rose. There's a strong possibility that Rose didn't inform this double of what she was actually doing, and wanted to get her killed so that everyone would think "Rose" was dead.

If they're focusing on Michael being an asshole I don't see them killing him.

Michael is still great though, haters gone hate.

Just happening to leave the TV on the CW after Supergirl. First time seeing this show. I don't know the context but #EsteBunInTheOven might have sold me.

Go back and smash the first two seasons on Netflix. The show loves pun filled hashtags. You sure picked a spoiler filled episode to jump in on haha.

I think the hashtags are overused, personally. They were funny, and sometimes still are, but it seems like they go to that way too much.

Same. I really enjoyed this episode and I'm definitely going to start watching.
I'm already shipping Jane and Micheal. I'm trash. ;v;

So glad to have this show back on. Good episode. I didn't ever expect Michael to be dead (not yet at least). I don't hate him like some, but he is kind of boring. Feeling bad for Petra. She is my favorite.

Oh yeah looks like the show is doing an abortion storyline. Can't imagine Alba will be happy about that.

Loved the amnesia fake out. Lots of people speculated that'd be a plot.

The show is really good at presenting the love interests as viable options with their own benefits and flaws. Very understandable to ship either of the guys.

Yeah in the interview they doubled down on the "loved Jane until his last breath" narration, he's only safe for the meantime. That said after pulling this stunt and with S4 likely being the last I could see him surviving and being HEA but at the pace this show moves...

Wow, I forgot this was coming on last night since Crazy Ex-GF wasn't on the 8pm listings

But then I remembered that show got moved to the Friday death slot...

AMAZING premiere. As usual, a tender, honest portrayal of a desperate situation by Gina Rodriguez. She can do no wrong, and hopefully the writers don't go too off the rails with the murder/drug stuff this time :p

So glad to have this show back and see it start so strong.

Can a mod remove the S2 from the title? I don't think the show has a big enough following to merit a new thread, plus it'd be late anyway.

My girlfriend and I fell out of love with the show after the snoozefest (thanks Michael) that was season 2. I honestly believe that the writing has taken a nosedive and lost all the nuance it once had. The premier didn't do much to change our thoughts on that. We're still sticking around, but I'm not sure for how much longer.
This incident was the perfect opportunity to shake up Jane's and Michael's relationship, and especially to explore new facets of Michael's character. Instead, he got out of this effectively unscratched, and the only ones suffering are Petra and soon Rafael, because you know the show writers love to kick those two in the gut repeatedly. After two seasons of crime lord hunting, that too has lost its charm, and there is not much plot to stand on otherwise. It's grown stale and predictable, the unpredictability of this show once being its strong suit.

They better not keep this Petra thing going on for several episodes. They really made you like her last season. :(

Some good acting from Gina this episode. Michael's mom was annoying, but at least that was resolved. So glad this is back!

My husband agrees with you 100%. I agree with you too, but I'm way too invested at this point to not be happy for its return, and it's still got a lot of highlights. But my husband, who used to watch with me every week, isn't so interested anymore and doesn't care to watch unless I already have it on.

I disagree that Michael is a snoozefest, and think that S2 was only a very small step down from the first one and seems most reviewers agree. It's a shame you've fallen out of love with the show.

That said, read the interviews, Michael isn't coming out of this unscathed at all. They specifically said they wanted to avoid the Mateo kidnapping cliffhanger situation of it being immediately resolved and it'll impact things to come, specifically Michael's livelihood.
