To be honest I found it boring, the hotel scene was hammy and unconvincing. I actually started forwarding through it after 30 minutes to get to the end and I really like the show.

Just caught up on the last two weeks, episode 3 was really great.

I also can't get over how much Danny Huston sounds like his father.

I thought the build up to Bill revealing that he was abused by his father was slightly dull due to the fact that we already know about it (through his conversations with his mother). Still, the episode was really damn good. So much tension and sadness as they talk to each other. How smoothly their conversations transitioned back and forth between truth and lies. How they managed to weave the boxing match going on in the background into all the stories being told. And just fantastic performances from Sheen and Caplan that made it so difficult to watch. I don't know if it's the 'best hour of television' in the year but I sure as hell can't think of anything better offhand.

Only 3 pages in this thread. The show deserves more popularity.

Caught up.

Last episode (3) was definitely among the best ones of the series, for me.

As i said i also loved Fly, and i totally see the comparisons, however the complaining about bottle episodes (as StuBurns called them :p) were more justified in an action show like Breaking Bad.
In Masters of Sex, character development is just about the most action you'll get, the cream of the show, really.

I just watched the last episode. I am appalled at some of the negative reviews. It was, to me, one of the finest hours of television in a long time. Just masterful, I loved it so much. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire episode. It was easily the best episode of the series to this point, in my opinion of course.

I love the disdain for Illinois and specifically Alton. Weird though living in that area, never seen a movie or TV show set around here.

I see what you did there.

The Fly was good though.

I dunno, is comparing to to The Fly a bad thing?

Then how about, this was like The Suitcase?

I know the Fly was good. That's why I said I wanted to break my wait for the season to finish to watch it. Comparisons to The Fly make me excited.

Watched season one recently. Going in, wasn't expecting much. Dexter really hampered me on Showtime... :/ came out amazed at how good this show is. It's as good as if not better than Mad Men (another show I just started watching. gotta start season 5 soon.)

My one complaint is I find it very strange that for a show about the study of sex it is very prudish about showing other than the most basic details. I mean, I get the need to be artful but this is the perfect opportunity to be educational about anatomy and pleasure as well, and it's kind of a cop out to not delve further into those types of visuals.

In other words, why no visuals of penises and vaginas? Not asking for porn brah, just, they exist you know.

Fly was good but, as i said, the complaints made still more sense there than here.

Breaking Bad is an action show that sometimes moves incredibly fast, plot wise, an episode like Fly is a definite change in pace.

In Masters of Sex, Plot Advancement isn't... isn't really that crucial, because it's a slower show to begin with, so an episode like this, to me, is an episode filled with juicy material, the very meat of the show.

If an episode like this is boring to you, i don't even know what you're getting out of the rest of the show; you won't have Bill Masters go "Stay out of my Hospital" to some Organ Smuggler, or him having to hide in a parking lot from the Cartel's hitmen.
A sentiment that made more sense in BB.

i doubt any actor on the show would be willing to show their genitals in full "engaging" mode.

How long until someone punches Dr Langham in the face for inserting himself into other people's situations and having a big mouth?

Libby and Coral... these scenes are so difficult to watch.

Not sure why they've chosen to go with the classic TV trope of turning Libby into an insufferable cunt, but it seems completely out of character. Her scenes add nothing to the show and stand out as the sole weak spot on an otherwise stellar program.

It's an interesting decision to make Libby a twat. It would be very easy to make her seem like a victim of his adulatory, that would be really one note. It's difficult to watch those scenes, and they are weak, but it's a bold decision.

yeah, I've very quickly gotten tired of the Libby and especially Betty subplots. Betty's story in particular feels like complete filler.

I have yet to catch up with the last episode, but isn't Betty the reason why Masters got to work on his study again?

Pretty much yeah. Her husband.

Just saw episode three. What a great episode. The boxing bit was jokes. The drama was good. The baby. Maybe my favourite episode yet.

Yeah i don't know how i feel about Libby's arc either.
She was going to become a boring mary sue, victim of the whole situation, but this turn of events seems rather sudden, in the way she completely disregards Coral's dignity at every turn.

Makes her look more like a coward lashing out on someone with less power to answer back, than anything else, which i guess it's an interesting turn of events, in and out of itself.
The scene themselves though, i didn't like them too much.

I'm happy Masters is out of that hospital though, that scene behind the glass with the woman masturbating and everyone laughing, was massively creepy, lol.

Agreed. Feels like an incredibly forced plotline.

"Dirty Jobs" was a very good episode. Julianne Nicholson was absolutely fantastic in it.

Also, when Betty joked about "Doctor Lipschitz", was that a Rugrats reference? XD

He was pretty annoying for the majority of the episode but I really liked his scene at the end with William.

Agreed. I'm dreading the conclusion to that arc. At this point it seems like it can only end in disaster.

Langhams advice to Bill was something I appreciated too. It seems he meant to do well and let Bill reflect on what he accomplished in life. Also liked the conclusion to Betty's subplot on how the two actually met. Libby turned into a cunt these past few episodes isn't really my favourite plotline but I can kind of see why they would go there. It feels like they wanted a way the Libby character can express her stress to someone and the nanny became the victim. There's practically no one else around the house anyways. To conclude, I'm on board with pretty much all the directions they chose to go with. Bill punching Greyhouse being my favourite bit. No one strongarms Bill Masters. So far I see this show getting another spot in my year list, Showtime is really delivering for me.

New episode tonight:
Giants

Masters continues his study, but loses his gynecology practice; Coral's brother confronts Libby; Betty reunites with a former lover; Johnson tries to fix her relationship with DePaul.
