MvC: Infinite Story Demo out now + several new reveals [Sony E3]

This is embarrassing. They aren't putting much effort into this game at all. Marvel 3 might not be everybody's cup of tea but at least they put effort into the damn game's presentation.

MVCi is like finding out your daughter does porn. From hearing about it to watching it in motion. It's so terrible.

SFV Chun to MVCi Chun is like watching those before and after meth photo ops.
This has to be incorporated into the OT somehow
But anyone kind of sucks a lot of people are so negative, I'll give it a go later

I can't comment on the gameplay because I'm not a marvel guy but in terms of presentation this game is a garbage pile. The characters are ugly, the backgrounds are garish and tacky, the load times make the story unwatchable, and the script and line delivery are worse than any cartoon aimed at 8-year-olds.

An insanely low-budget treatment for a (currently) blockbuster collection of IP.

Pretty much my take as well.

I'm sure the gameplay will be fun, but everything else feels so mishandled, it's baffling. I'm even pretty lenient on fighting game graphics. I thought KoF got a bit too much crap, but at least everything looked sharp, crisp and clean. not smeared with some sort of rainbow vaseline and models that mangled the characters' look. The moment a game starts gratuitously applying chromatic aberration filter everywhere to make it look more cinematic, it becomes unviewable for me, and gives me the idea they don't know what they're doing.

I don't know what Capcom's thing is with having to use some sort of ugly post-processing filter on all their fighters to give them some sort of different look. At least MvC3 worked because of the comic style, and it didn't blur out the visuals, but SFxT, SFV, and this are garish and tacky. But even in general, the art direction is terrible.

It will be the first Capcom fighter I haven't bought at launch in decades, so that's saying something. I'll likely pick it up at some point after a price drop/sale, but when depends on how they make this look like less of an embarrassment, and if the PC version lets you disable the post-processing.

I want this game to be good, I really do, but man is the presentation simply horrible. I have no idea why someone thought this was a good idea. Especially since most recent fighters look good or even great.

this game really could have been done so differently. now that DBFZ was announced and i played the infinite demo, i dont think i'll even be picking it up. bland art style, too much hand holding, lack of new characters, etc etc.

Man, the story demo was really disappointing. Visually the chromatic aberration started to make me feel a bit queasy. Fights ended very, very quickly so it was hard to get a hang on certain characters, like Captain Marvel. The story mode animations were not good at all.

You guys are being a tad harsh. It has a lot of room to improve, yes the HUD looks bad and some character models are ugly (Cap Marvel is perfection, tho!) but I enjoyed this story demo more than the majority of the SFV story mode.

The effect does this for me, which is why it's potentially a dealbreaker for me.

So what I'm hoping for at this point is that this is just a giant miscalculation of priorities by Capcom. With the backlash they received with SFV's lack of single player stuff, they might be pushing too hard on the story despite the rest of the game not being ready yet. Dunno why they'd think it would be a good idea showing such a mess on the big stage in E3, but it's Capcom so I wouldn't be surprised. If that's how they're thinking of it though, then there's a chance that they plan on severely reworking/improving the overall look. Dunno if that's just wishful thinking at this point though.

The game releases in 3 months...

Presentation wise, yes, it is horrible.

I think Capcom is putting their effort in finishing the story mode rather than polish the current game models. Gameplay wise they don't look that bad, but up close they are freaking horrible.

Gameplay wise I liked but barely had any time with the game. It would be cool if they allowed training mode so that we could properly test the characters.

They may patch the game later with better visuals, but I think they want to deliver on content first this time to avoid the whole SF V scenario.

But the thing is, it can't be one or the other. A modern fighting game needs to have good presentation, good mechanics, a good amount of content, and be fun. If the story mode is shit and it looks like shit, that doesn't really achieve much. The single player content actually needs to be good for it to matter.

The SFV scenario was also driven by other problems than simply lack of single player content. And right now, I'm not convinced MvC:I won't have its share of other, similar issues at launch.

They clearly have a budget/time that doesn't allow them to do everything.

The jury is still out on mechanics, content, story and fun. We just know the presentation is bad (and I could argue that Netherealm games also suffered from bad faces).

MvC:I worries me more on the online side of things. It's always a bust on launch.

Ok but let’s be honest - being better than the SFV story mode isn’t much of an accomplishment.

The story mode was so good they are doing a second one.

and hey, I liked it. Laughed a lot a couple of times at the sheer absurdity of it.

I maintain that given how starved for a real budget they are, the story mode was an absolute waste of time. Adding a second one is just fucking pointless, stupid and I think it's a prime example of how Capcpom are fucking themselves and their games over by incredibly misguided and dense decisions by upper management.

Same applies to Killer Instinct and it's stupid Shadow Lords mode, and the same applies to Tekken 7 and it's stupid story mode. Both those games could have been a lot better if that budget went towards more functionality and more stuff for the game.

All I want out of a single-player mode in a fighting game is a series of increasingly difficult battles against the AI that culminates in a boss fight or two and then some kind of (preferably animated) story ending. I don't want or need cutscenes between every encounter or battle. I don't play fighting games for that.

It's great that Injustice has a great story mode but they kind of need it since (IMO) the actual fighting gameplay isn't as good as something like Street Fighter. Are the NRS games really popular in the FG circuit? I honestly don't know.

Cinematic Story Modes are a ton of effort that are nice when the game has a ton of time and money to throw into it but for a game on a comparatively "modest" budget like MVCI is shaping out to be... I feel like they should have thrown their effort into more characters and just provide a nice well done arcade mode or something like the World Tour mode that offers some single player content with replayability without a whole lot of time put into animating out cutscenes. Maybe throw some comic book style interstitials between some of the matches.

It can be done well. I know plenty of people here that bough T7 because of the story mode.

GG Xrd had a great story mode that was essentially a GG movie and it was great. How Arc does this (with their limited budget I imagine) is a mystery.

that freaking juri traveling from brazil to london on bike always gets me lmao!!

I laughed very, very loud at that moment. Seeing her going from Rio to London on a bike was a high point. I would love to know which path she took.

He may look like a rasta loser but he was super popular in tournies

I love Spencer but I always play as red-haired "classic" Spencer in MvC3. That's one skin I'd pay for whenever I get around to buying this. Hate the redesign. Always play classic Spencer in Bionic Commando '09 as well.

I don0t have problems with the redesign but classic spencer has tons of charm.

When i go with my "all american" team in UMVC3 (spencer, cap and chris) i usually pick classic spencer for maximum american heroism.

Also is it just me or does all the VO for this game have zero pop whatsoever

I dunno if it's that or if the sound effects are super muted

Not as popular as Capcom's, but popular still. WB/NRS are relatively new to competitive scenes, unlike Namco and Capcom who has been fostering it for quite some time.

The actual fighting gameplay is also great, and again just different than the others. And even if you remove the story mode from Injustice 2, there's the Multiverse with dozens of ladders and arcade endings, most change every day or so, there's the loot system, customization, AI mode, guilds...so there's still many stuff to do.

****

On topic, considering the current result, yeah they should've used the resources of the story mode into other things. While a story mode is good as an extra is not the only reason NRS games perform as well as they do. Yet, Capcom seems to think that's why and that adding one is enough.

It makes me wonder if the voice actor strike affected the game.

So far most of the voices just sound like randos that were picked off the street

A story mode is very important in terms of getting good sales right out of the gate

But only if it's good

And doesn't have shitarse voices
