Dante is the same but not at the same time. I can't describe what makes him feel so different, it's probably the button configuration. I think I need to map Stinger to circle instead of triangle.

I've been maining Captain Marvel. She's the only one I pretty much care about and started to train with her. This is a snippet of what I got so far.

I'm starting to realize that GAF might be the most pointlessly and pathetically negative place on the internet. I'm on board with a lot of the complaints, but you'd think this game murdered some people's families and then desecrated the corpses.

I agree but I think a lot of it stems from the fact that MvC is a beloved series and we're seeing it get shit on so we're all upset.

Between this Monster Hunter World and people comparing web swinging in old Spiderman games I just don't know anymore lol.

This story demo got me hyped for the game. I didn't get SFV cause of the lack of stuff but this is a day one.

Will the Alex and FANG complaining stop in the SFV thread then ;)

Note:
I play Alex.....hehe

Also, i played some more this morning. Something feels off. idk what it is yet.

Damn, it took you this long?

Edit: In my opinion....This forum is a hivemind run amok. They just have the best news pages and quickest updates, so I am always here. Lol.

From this to people calling others cucks, it's gotten pretty bad lol.

To those making fun of poor Chun li, maybe Capcom will fix her up like NRS did Wonder Woman.

Quite possible. A lot of the issues with KOF14 and I2 were that the maps and lighting weren't finalized. A lot can change by the time you are done finalizing shadow, reflect, highlight, pitting, and ambient occlussion stuff. Plus yes, I2 did also touch up Wonder Woman's model here and there as they went along too.

MVCI isn't done yet. Knowing this they shouldn't have highlighted all this with a Story only trailer. They should've ran with the gameplay reel of new characters and then announced the Demo.

This has to stop.

When the leaked roster revealed and there were videos of characters with the same hyper combo animations, there were a bunch here defending in saying Marvel 2 had a bunch of reused characters. Apparently, embracing reused assets and cutting corners is a sign of your OG status.

Cheap is a part of the marvel legacy. I don't mean cheap in the competitive sense.

It looks worse than MVC3, but the worse thing is that it feels much worse playing than MVC3. The screen size is too small for a Marvel game and the movement (the absolute most important thing in Marvel) just feels janky as hell.

They need to delay this game.

Also lmao if this mobile looking UI is the final one they're going with for this game.

You need some perspective on it. Folks begged for years for a sequel to the 3v3 assist gameplay in UMVC3 in a new marvel. They got a sequel announced but it completely scrapped 3v3 for 2v2 and got rid of assists outright. In fact, easier inputs, no wavedash, and a host of things came out that they tossed. The gameplay was entirely replaced at its fundamentals so it was a bait and switch.

The tag mechanics and stones got detailed and it did seem fun and like there would be depth so folks started to warm up to the new game even though it wasn't what they'd asked for in terms of gameplay since it would at least still be Marvel vs Capcom in roster. Then leaks hit announcing a greatly reduced roster in size and that most of the base roster would be returning cast from UMVC3 that were not the most popular and that most of the exciting roster was cut. Also that the new game was gonna have a roster without Xmen or FF cast which eliminates most of the biggest faces in the series for fans. Finally DLC stuff was mentioned to alleviate that but it looks like all the new and popular characters (both old and new) are purposely being hidden behind DLC paywalls on folks.

Add in the fact that since the first trailers the character models have had off faces and weird shader issues that make them look low budget and the game getting an E3 trailer that only put that under a magnifying glass amidst 4k titles and new fighters like Dragonball Fighterz that not only brought back all the gameplay they asked for but added stuff and looked great and thats why folks are mad...they feel let down, bait and switched, and nickel and dimed and the game hasn't even launched yet.

Capcom needs to strategize their news and economics better because the way they released info was just positioned in such a way that it maximizes the negative instead of focusing on any of the good in the game. They got a lot of negative press and they need to address stuff more when folks show this much concern. Im not saying change your roster and gameplay but have more streams where combofiend can go in on stuff and make players excited and alleviate stuff. Let em see gameplay instead of agonizing cutscenes that only highlight models with half finished shader work and models that could use more facial touchup. Tease roster stuff instead of letting it just come out in chunks after leakers already stole their thunder. MVC3 had 2 characters revealed every other week then breakdowns by Seth Killian plus streams and demo stuff at events to spread word of mouth. They need to do something because the methods they are using now are letting them get eaten alive by leakers and other games competing for attention whove positioned their own marketing with more positive footage. Hell we know more in one week from DBFZ than we've known on MVCI in nearly a year.

After about an hour with the demo, I have to agree with everybody thrashing the controls and overall feeling of the game. It's weird but not in a good way.

The closest example I can relate to is like going from SF Alpha 2 into SF EX+. You went from this smooth and quick, stylish animated look, into a slower, clunky, lifeless 3D looking mess.

Maybe when longer matches can be had, it'll feel better, but so far it's just not clicking, especially since it doesnt have a good roster of characters to fall back on.

Really couldn't have written it better myself.

Don't point fingers at fans. Capcom has done this to themselves. As a company you are responsible for your own messaging, and Seth/Capcom did a fantastic job back in the day making the game feel exciting and fresh.

The problem is exacerbated further by the extremely strong competition Capcom is facing now.

I'm just a casual fan of fighting games but even I noticed how bad it looked. The characters looked awful, early last gen. The story bad guy looks like a joke as well... eyes in the chest? No, no, no.

Even if the gameplay is incredible the graphics are going to go against it sales wise. Especially when Injustice and Tekken 7 have pushed the genre forward so far.

Got some more of my training for you guys...

Say what you want about how the game looks... As far as gameplay, as long as you got the imagination... you can do quite a lot.

I don't really get why people keep saying Tekken 7 is pushing the genre forward.

In what way exactly? It doesn't have a basic tutorial for how its mechanics works, a trial mode, people can duck each other in ranked, the story mode for 90% of its characters are a single fight and a not so good cutscene at the end.

I'm having a blast with that game right now, don't get me wrong, but it's just another Tekken game to me.

Regarding MvC:I, all I hope is that they put out an old build as a demo and all of this stuff will be resolved at launch.

Thinkered a bit with the demo, gameplay feels right and im glad you can turn off all the easy options.

Also, is it me or the graphics of the actual demo are way better than the ugly trailer?

Chun Li's face looks loads better in the demo than in the new story trailer.

They are better. I was shocked. would love to see it play in 4k

SFV Chun to MVCi Chun is like watching those before and after meth photo ops.

Some terrible posts in here as of late. Wow at the Capcuck and daughter porn posts...

In any case this game's engine is very open like Marvel 3. You are going to have a lot of creative stuff in it that people are going to tinker around for years to come.

I played around with the demo late last night and yeah there is something off about the ground movement they need to fix. The input leniency definitely feels like its hurting the game although I will admit that if I hadn't seen other pro players play it I would have just chalked it up to my own bad execution/lack of familiarity with the game.

Tagging has like 2 seconds cooldown maximum. I am pretty sure people are going to find out pressure strings that start with one character, go to the other character and then go back to the original one. Pretty much everytime you block something in this game could lead into a mix up situation.

People said a while back that tagging out removes red life, that is not the case so there is no restriction to just tagging back and forth. If your opponent can't stop it then you can get away with so much.

Also this game has significant proximity guard which I can't see as being a good thing. You are going to dash back and then immediatly start blocking when someone sticks out a normal.

The hit stop is about as bad as it looks in the trailers and online. The actual animations of the moves are fine but when something connects it just doesn't feel or look good at all.

Arthur plays very similar to his Marvel 3 self but he has a ground dash now. It's pretty disappointing

Dante has pretty much all of his moves back but they are all re-arranged or reworked. Hammer is a regular QCF+P move in the air as compared to being a CC move from Killer Bee (which to be honest never made sense to me because that's not how it worked in DMC3). His more useless moves look more usable like Million Carats actually freezes enemies in place for a combo. Dante needs to be re-examined from a fresh eye but he still should be the go to guy for stylish game play.

Also someone already fixed Chun Li on reddit LOL!

What the hell. That leak about characters performing uppercuts/anti-air specials with a down down motion rather than the standard DP motion was completely true. I've seen gameplay clips and it looks like Ryu is the only character that still has the DP motion for his uppercut.

Also, it's kind of hard to tell since the AI is extremely weak in the story demo, but gaining meter seems to be extremely slow. The only times you gain meter is when you hit or get hit. No meter for specials or when the opponent is blocking.

Flight combos are kinda Marvel 101. lp, lk, hp, hk, flight cancel, repeat with a special ender. I like Spencer/Captain Marvel so far

Looks fun. I hope they add more stuff to the stages. They seem a little dead. All text seems Injustice style super boring. That's a let down. I'm definitely in the "big, colored, damage numbers" camp and this looks like the polar opposite. Will have to play it to get a better sense, but I was expecting it to look like waaaaaaaaaaaay worse of a game given the internet/Kappa backlash.

The UI (especially text) definitely needs work, but I'd actually take these relatively static stages over a lot of MvC3's.

Part of the reason why you never see anything but Bonne Wonderland in tournaments is that no player wants to hit random select and risk landing on Shield Helicarrier (where you can't keep track of projectiles because the background is too goddamn busy) or Demon Village (where you can't keep track of the corners because the stage is constantly moving).

Finally got a chance to play the story demo.

The game is butt ugly, and Chun looks like a straight up alien. Shameful, and I don't think this is fixable in 3 months.

The gameplay feels okay, but I definitely get why people have been saying it feels sluggish. This can hopefully be addressed before launch.

DP motions being replaced with down down is dumb and annoying, and I'm hoping they change it back. It doesn't make anything easier, it's just annoying.

It is possible that they simply haven't added/finalized background stuff yet.
For example, Bustling Side Street did not have NPCs when it was shown off the first time for SFV:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs8NNUMFpg8

Though SFV was much further from release at that point, compared to MvC:I.

Waiting for show floor impressions of that build to see if anything is different at all about the engine and physics in the game.

Having a hard time believing Capcom could screw up the most basic fighting game fundamentals - even SFV's strong point from day one was that it felt really great.

First Impressions:

  • Cutscenes look really good, animations are on point, only the lip synching is off. Otherwise, yeah I don't know what people are smoking when they say this looks bad. Tone and writing are very appropriate for MvC franchise too. Just enough cheese. Feels very comic-y. The fuck are people expecting, some dark, serious shit?
  • XGard stage has a lot going on but it doesn't look bad, it's actually growing on me, the rainbow bridge being essentially rainbow coloured bike lanes looks weird thoigh. I think this stage makes the best argument for needing a better way to make the characters visually distinct from backgrounds and there currently doesnt seem like there's much that does.
  • At least vs. AI, never build seems REALLY slow, you barely reach 3 metres total by the end of a match. I know Infinity Storm offsets this a bit but it's still not enough.
  • Slowdown after KO is annoying and hurts my eyes because it's choppy.
  • Captain Marvel's air heavy punch makes her do a flip afterwards upon contact, I wonder what mixups can come out of this.
  • Feels weird playing it but not as weird as going from MvC2 to MvC3, which felt much more sluggish. This actually feels pretty fast although a bit more loose. It doesn't feel bad but it definitely seems like it will take getting used to. Because the transition isn't nearly as odd as it was into MvC3, I don't have big concerns about this.
  • Thor's new level 3 is neat.
  • Dante's new diagonal gunshots in the air are kind of neat but I'm not sure what that means for his air guitar move. I suppose one is for space control while the other still let's you hover, but seems like kind of a weird addition like they had to give Dante a new move too because everybody else got one.
  • Rockets new downward electric shot in the air is incredibly useful because you can tag combo off of a confirmation and it gives you a lot of time to do so because they stay stunned for a while. This is going to get a lot of use in competitive play.
  • Tagging feels sublime in general.
  • Okay I take it back Chris' face still looks bad even though he's seemingly better proportional. In game he looks great, though. It's really just his facial hair and teeth that make his face look like a roided gerbil.
  • I didn't know if it was possible but the Magnum is the most satisfying it's ever been. Looks like the reload move reloads the full clip, whereas if you're empty you try to shoot it reloads a single bullet instead.
  • Spencer's level 3 is pretty lame for a guy with a bionic arm that has all kinds of acrobatic capabilities.
  • LMHS is DEFINITELY the superior control scheme. Again, separating kicks and punches is really a legacy thing and makes little sense as soon as your characters are more than just street fighters. Hell, it doesn't even make sense for all of the world warriors, let alone Raccoons that use guns.

Writing on par with PxZ would have been nice.
