MvC: Infinite Story Demo out now + several new reveals [Sony E3]

Yeah, it's good it doesn't take itself too seriously, at least. The last crossover I read was Secret Wars, but I did hear Civil War II was pretty damn bad. Last comic run I read was The Ultimates, and that was pretty great. I had thought CWII was just yet another bad crossover and not a quality symbol for Marvel as a whole right now. Suppose I could be wrong, I only keep up with about run at a time.

The Ultimates is infamously bad.

Where the hell is training mode. I just wanna pratice Dante and I have to keep restarting. FFS

Played it a bunch last night and...it just feels weird.

Everyone has gone on about how off visually it looks, but something about the game "feels" isn't really clicking with me at all like MvC3 immediately did. Dante felt really off to play :( and that feels bad because he was my main man in 3. Captain Marvel was kinda fun I guess? X's moveset was neat too. Perhaps I'd feel a bit better about the game if this demo was straight up just a regular training mode demo instead of this lame story mode one (which btw...I admit there's a funny scene here and there, but otherwise, I could do without it), because beating up on defenseless drones isn't fun. The demo overall really didn't do a good job at hyping me up for the game at all and that just makes me sad honestly. :/

Yeah it's probably weird because of what you're fighting. Either weak drones with no health, or Boss Sigma Ultron (with how much damage he takes that's what I'm assuming.)

But still, seeing Dante not have cancels sucks ass. I know we should be expecting different stuff but that was a cool aspect I wish remained.

I'm talking about the newest run of The Ultimates, not the old Mark Millar run. The new run has literally nothing similar to the original Ultimates except the name.

I really wish there was some sort of training or vs. mode in here to mess around with too, just so I could get used to some of the characters. The Ultron bot fights are way too short for me to get a feel for any of the characters here. Just as I think I'm getting used to one of the characters, the match is over and I'm given two new characters to use.

I think it's because it's slower, to be honest. Not by much, but it's slower. That plus the characters looking like their MvC 3 versions and playing similarly is jarring.

We'll adapt, but that might be what it is.

Dante still has most of his moves and has bold cancelling, so I'm fine.

Main thing I do not like is down down movements for replacing srk.

What's a good Captain Marvel run because she is fucking cool and I want more of this character.

There's something weird about the feel of this game. I can't really put my finger on it. Compared to 3, it's kinda slow.

Edit: and yeah that in combination of most characters being really similar to their MVC3 rendition doesn't help.

I think we can all agree that the presentation is disappointing. To a fairly extreme degree. The characters look a lot better in the fight, but everything else is rough as hell.

The gameplay though, is going to be interesting. As with most fighting games, especially Marvel, it's easy to be skeptical at first, but it's all about how it develops. Personally, I liked what I played. Not OVERJOYED, but I liked it a good bit. I'm very interested to play against things that aren't paper drones.

Still downloading...jesus christ, PSN. I downloaded Gears of War 4 on PC faster than this and it's 127 fucking gigs.

Anyways looking forward to the silly ass story mode. I'm a sucker for crossover stuff that actually features interaction between characters. Can't wait to have Monster Hunter talking in his/her native gibberish and nobody having any goddamn idea what they're saying.

You can't tell me Marvel didn't influence this artstyle.

Not when Capcom makes it a point to keep Chun looking good everywhere else.

I posted this before, but oh yeah. I know people love to hate Capcom, but they've proven many times they are capable of making gorgeous fighting games. There's no way this was all them, if it was them at all.

First Impressions:

  • Cutscenes look really good, animations are on point, only the lip synching is off. Otherwise, yeah I don't know what people are smoking when they say this looks bad. Tone and writing are very appropriate for MvC franchise too. Just enough cheese. Feels very comic-y. The fuck are people expecting, some dark, serious shit?
  • XGard stage has a lot going on but it doesn't look bad, it's actually growing on me, the rainbow bridge being essentially rainbow coloured bike lanes looks weird thoigh. I think this stage makes the best argument for needing a better way to make the characters visually distinct from backgrounds and there currently doesnt seem like there's much that does.
  • At least vs. AI, never build seems REALLY slow, you barely reach 3 metres total by the end of a match. I know Infinity Storm offsets this a bit but it's still not enough.
  • Slowdown after KO is annoying and hurts my eyes because it's choppy.
  • Captain Marvel's air heavy punch makes her do a flip afterwards upon contact, I wonder what mixups can come out of this.
  • Feels weird playing it but not as weird as going from MvC2 to MvC3, which felt much more sluggish. This actually feels pretty fast although a bit more loose. It doesn't feel bad but it definitely seems like it will take getting used to. Because the transition isn't nearly as odd as it was into MvC3, I don't have big concerns about this.
  • Thor's new level 3 is neat.
  • Dante's new diagonal gunshots in the air are kind of neat but I'm not sure what that means for his air guitar move. I suppose one is for space control while the other still let's you hover, but seems like kind of a weird addition like they had to give Dante a new move too because everybody else got one.
  • Rockets new downward electric shot in the air is incredibly useful because you can tag combo off of a confirmation and it gives you a lot of time to do so because they stay stunned for a while. This is going to get a lot of use in competitive play.
  • Tagging feels sublime in general.
  • Okay I take it back Chris' face still looks bad even though he's seemingly better proportional. In game he looks great, though. It's really just his facial hair and teeth that make his face look like a roided gerbil.
  • I didn't know if it was possible but the Magnum is the most satisfying it's ever been. Looks like the reload move reloads the full clip, whereas if you're empty you try to shoot it reloads a single bullet instead.
  • Spencer's level 3 is pretty lame for a guy with a bionic arm that has all kinds of acrobatic capabilities.
  • LMHS is DEFINITELY the superior control scheme. Again, separating kicks and punches is really a legacy thing and makes little sense as soon as your characters are more than just street fighters. Hell, it doesn't even make sense for all of the world warriors, let alone Raccoons that use guns.

It bugs me so much. It feels like a step back and change for the sake of change. 80% of the special moves and hyper combos in the game incorporate neither punches nor kicks, and neither do a ton of the standard attacks.

I agree too, after playing MvC3 so much, the L, M, H, S setup was really ideal for a MvC game. This layout feels strange to get used to and not having a dedicated launch button makes the game more complicated IMO. Why did Capcom think this was making it easier for casuals?

MVCi is like finding out your daughter does porn. From hearing about it to watching it in motion. It's so terrible.

SFV Chun to MVCi Chun is like watching those before and after meth photo ops.

Maybe I should said "until Capcpom makes Alex good in an SF game" then I could have this as my avatar forever.

Fact is, I'll need to rep Yakuza-GAF again once Kiwami draws near so I'm gonna be changing it anyway :(

Alex is good enough for me!

latest

I'll be repping Yakuza-GAF too when Kiwami comes out

So everybody can see that this game is rushed. At least in SFV, they built everything from scratch. They reused assets in this game and it still is gimped.
