5k hype posts and 2k actual discussion. Pretty telling.
They also had Monster Hunter 4, which is early 2015 - so spring was more vague than anything. There's no WiiU games after next week until May 30th.
I wonder what their teams like Retro and Next Level are thinking right now. Seeing how horrible the system is doing but being unable to say anything.
I can't imagine that's a good working environment.
Nintendo fans looking forward to E3 are setting themselves up for a massive disappointment.
People seem to have forgotten that Nintendo didn't even have a conference last E3.
Next E3, Nintendo is going to focus all its efforts on 3DS and the QoL system. Do people think Nintendo would not actively try to dissociate itself from the failure that is the WiiU at a conference introducing a new platform?
I expect Zelda HD, NFC stuff, More X, More Bayonneta 2, DS games on Wii U, more cheap rom hacks in a hushly put together tNintendo Direct
The conference will be wholly dedicated to 3DS and QoL. Maybe this will wakeup the remaining blind fanboys to the fact that WiiU is dead to even Nintendo.
II honestly do not see myself investing in another Nintendo console with the current leadership at the helm.
Does that really matter? We missed out on fanboy journalists whooping and possible mistakes with on stage demonstrations. Content wise there was little difference between presenting it as a live conference or as an E3 Direct.People seem to have forgotten that Nintendo didn't even have a conference last E3.

You do realise Directs are basically glorified press releases right? They're not going to discuss things like that in one.
Was Mario Golf 3D shown in this direct?
Please tell me it's not canned?!
Either they're making fantastic Wii U games with the attempt of partially turning things around, or they're already in the process of developing launch games for the next Nintendo console. I guess we'll find out at E3.
It was James Jones (NWR) favorite Guild01 games.Weapons Battle Omasse from Level 5 is kind of a cool idea, play as the blacksmith POV in RPGs!
Hope it's good!

If you're insinuating they're only going to space out the games we currently know about and drop future Wii U projects, I think you're insane. There will still be secret games to be announced.Theyre not going to try a comeback at E3, because they're not going to develop any new games for the system aside from the ones announced. They can space these out three months in between and then release the new console in 2016, a respectable four years after the U. Everything is now in service of keeping losses down and not alienating their last fans.
The Wii U lineup for the first half of 2014 is amazing. Seems like even Nintendo has given up.

Nah.What??? I think itll be more like 10 or less games for its entire lifespan

Nintendos next system will be a failure for sure if they're seen as a company that barely supports their own platforms.

Unfortunately I do see that as a very real possibility...that Mario Kart + Smash Bros. + Bayonetta 2 + X will remain the only major hardcore 1st-party games supporting the Wii U throughout December 2014.
This is probably the saddest realisation to come out of the Wii generation. They are that company, and everybody knows.
I disagree with you that just gave up. On this direct they just announced a new sku, a sequel to just dance, which were big sellers on Wii and a retail release for nes remix (where we know after how luigy u sold that might be a good seller) and thats all before mario kart. They are certainly trying. Evert Monty nintendo is releasing something in Japan.Have you seen January 2014 NPD sales for Wii U? They're essentially identical to Nintendo's disastrous January 2013 NPD performance. Despite all of that marketing in the 2013 Holiday season, nothing has changed. The Wii U is right back where it started.
So why would Nintendo focus on a platform like that when they can leverage existing successes like the 3DS and focus on QoL / what's next for the company?

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - February
Mario Kart - May
Bayonetta 2 - August
X - October
Smash Bros. - November
Zelda - 2015
^ Something like that.

Shows Action Beat'em up
Shows Soccer Simulator/Managing/Whatever
Shows PokeCrush game
Shows Contemplative FPS
Shows Platformers
Shows RPGs
Shows Dungeon Crawler
Shows Indies
Shows Golf
Shows Kart Racing
Shows SSB
"They only do platformers!!!"
They probably will show it in the next Direct. Given the attention the game got, I'm sure they want to show a fairly stable and nice looking build next
No train crashed here. If none of these games(including Mario Kart 8) were enough to hold your attention for a few moments, you're looking at the wrong system.
Who would of thought that last year January Nintendo had effectively revealed their 2013 and 2014 lineup and even some of there 2015 lineup.
Also Mario Kart on May 30th.
So what thats like a 3 month gap between DK and MK with what in between?
Where was Hyrule Warriors?
gatdayum..i really thought nintendo had more in the pipeline than this. i know they've had droughts in the past with previous consoles, but this time it somehow seems worse than ever before. maybe our expectations are higher these days? all i know is so far this year looks barren as fuck. i really can't comprehend anyone being a nintendo exclusive gamer these days, when even 10 years ago I'd say that was still a possibility.

X will come out in 2015. Zelda is probably moving to their next console or will be released on both like Twilight Princess. Hyrule Warriors is what they will use as their big Fall 2014 title.

As a Wii U owner since day one, I've believed that they would be able to turn things around. That belief cracked and finally shattered with this Direct. I'll enjoy whatever is left for the system, but I have no hopes for much.
Riposte said:Including what they announced so far, I wouldn't even feel burned by the Wii U if all we got was a console Monster Hunter 4 and maybe one or two other titles I really like (namely, another Platinum one). The thought that it may not even get that far is quite troubling though.
Sandfox said:I think its smarter for Nintendo to just not greenlit Wii U games outside of the NFC titles coming(which I'm kinda expecting to be digital) and invest their money into other things.

They probably did and it might be coming out this year but knowing how these things work (especially HD JRPG development) I have big doubts of it hitting this year. Besides Iwata is gonna want to delay something to pad out 2015.

They support their handhelds better than anyone else supports any of their respective platforms, though.
Not all RPG makers are Square Enix.
You can't really compare Nintendo's platforms to Sony or MS though. Yes, Nintendo produces more software for 3DS than Sony does for PS4, but it doesn't add up. Sony and MS have substantive third-party support.
