I personally don't find his arguments very convincing (admittedly I didn't watch a whole lot), but it definitely shouldn't be a bannable offense to share a youtube video.
If you can remember, which arguments do you specifically disagree with? I’ve seen a lot of misrepresentation of his arguments and people just parroting those misrepresentations, the most obvious example being the “enforced monogamy” comment, which was painted as some kind of dystopian Handmaid’s Tale proposal.

Journalists keep harping on his views about gender quality so much that people don't get to hear his other views. Every time he is on TV they just jump to the same topic about gender equality. He even points it out in one video "Every time I am on a show I wanna talk about a variety of topics and I keep getting pushed into a political discussion"

I watched alot more of this video now. He's basically saying that we don't know what the rules are for harassment in the workplace. I take it back., his arguments make complete sense.

It's amazing how much they cut from that interview. I think spending time at resetera warped my views a bit because they cherry pick blurbs from articles and choose specific sources. It's a scary thought that I didn't realize how much was being hidden from me. It's important to always look at multiple news sources to get the complete picture.

Now think about every other topic they have presented cherry picked, biased information on and how that has influenced your views.

You shouldn't necessarily take this to mean that everything Peterson says is correct, but I'm glad you were willing to give someone a second listen in spite of the prejudices some people were screaming into your ear.

There is great value in listening to what someone says in full instead of filtered through the news or through the article. Get the full picture, not just the soundbites. After all, it is possible you will encounter that standpoint later on in life. Pursuing contrary viewpoints will sharpen your mind, not because you agree with them but usually because you can grapple with them and decide why you disagree with them.

Humans are more likely to agree with something when they have no prior opinion of the topic, regardless of the truthfulness of the statement. This is probably due to our social tendencies plus our risk-averse nature.

The same thing happened to me at resetera and 2017 neogaf kind of warping my mind. Then something saved me: Star Wars The Last Jedi.

The SW TLJ RLM Plinkett review pops up....and the restera thread about it was an embarrassment (and predictably got locked). It was filled with people yelling "I'M NOT GIVING RLM CLICKS THEY HAVE BEEN PANDERING TO THE ALT RIGHT" or "DID THEY MENTION ANY SJW STUFF? TELL ME BECAUSE I WILL NOT GIVE THEM MY CLICK IF THEY DID!!!"....I was lik...huh? What does SJW mean? And since when is RLM associated w/ the alt right? WTF is going on here?

Then I looked up what SJW meant..which led to me reading other articles about SJW and the new radical left culture...and the rest is history.

OMG I found a positive about Star Wars: The Last Jedi...I never thought I'd say this, but thank you SW Ep 8....eh I feel gross now.

They keep linking to a Kobrille person on twitter for the Microsoft Studio leaks/predictions. When someone asked why the person wasn't on the website. They said they ran the person off of NeoGAF back before the merge attacking his information. *shrug*
Klobrille recently announced to take a step back from ERA postings due to the atmosphere there.

Kind of ironic, at that.

If they come back then GAF will return to being as wierd as it was before they left. Era is a really sickening place, its not far from a cult of misguided weaklings who moan about everything. Ive never seen anything so cringeworthy. Please dont let them all back here.
Reset's gaming section is great. But their other sections are awful. Everyone should steer clear of those sections because ban hammers are fast if you don't groupthink with "the nice way of posting". A lot of their threads in those sections will eventually skew to politics and opinions, so I'd avoid them. Stick to the gaming threads or something safe like a Food or Sports thread.

His University lectures are incredible. He gets dragged into too much political conversation now with people but when he sticks to Pschology he is a genius.

When I see Peterson talking about social issues I can follow along. But sometimes when I’m watching clips at night like his conversations with Sam Harris about religion and philosophy, I have no idea what he’s talking about

Same, but you don't go into a calculus class with a high school algebra math ability and expect to understand everything. Psychology and philosophy should be no different.

I've seen a lot of Peterson and also read his book. He really has some amazing points and is generally a great speaker (less so a writer IMO) but always gets very weird when confronted with religion. I think deep down he is an atheist but doesn't really want to admit or speak against it because he's unsure if our society would work without religion - which is an absolutely fair question. IIRC he even answer once to the question if he is religious with "I act/live as if I am." or something along that line.

Peterson is heavily influenced by C.G. Jung. That's why he takes that stance. Jung wrote about the power of archetypes on the human ego and believed their existence in the human psyche is indisputable. He ascribed godlike powers to the anima/animus and the shadow and explains how the God-image acts as a whole image for the Self. Whether or not these beings exist in any material sense does not matter to his standpoint, since they clearly exist and exert influence on our value-judgments. Jung filled his books with details on how these psychic entities reside in the "psychical space of the unconscious mind".

As such, Peterson believes in God in the psychological and perhaps philosophical sense: the ultimate ideal, the ultimate representation of Self, the focal point of morality and transcendent thought.

Y'know, it finally hit me today reading the gaf games forum. It's finally back!
The threads are rolling at a nice decent pace with lots of good content.
People have been saying for a long time nothing had changed except that we'd dumped the insane baggage. But it really feels like it's true now.

Every day I'm getting the feeling that maybe 80% of Re members spend more time trying to find games and topics they feel offended by than actually playing games they're discussing, it's really sad that you can't comment in the RDR2 OT without at least one knight on a high horse saying that he's not going to buy the game because of the way Rockstar treats their employees and that we should all feel bad about it. I mean for fucks sake, they're now getting offended that the new Smash game doesn't feature many or any brown or black characters, like give me a break, you apparently waited years for a new smash game and now you're going to get offended just because it's not diverse enough for you? And of course if I would say this there I would get banned. Everytime I comment there I feel like I'm playing freaking minesweeper. I went from browsing and actively commenting to just browsing for news and deals in the B/S/T thread in a mater of just a couple of months....it just gets worse each day, in a year the RE forums is just gonna consist of a couple 10k+ posts members cause everyone else is gonna end up banned.

I've been here for over 10 years though and no way am I leaving.

If it's that bad over there then surely the more sensible posters will come back eventually?

I don't read Reset but it can't be that bad if the community is still so active? Probably just a small minority of vocal lunatics.

It is that bad. That small minority actively dictates policy for the greater group of people, which is why registration counts have dwindled and why consistent banning takes place. Users actively conspire with the staff on Discord or elsewhere to get people banned, they are effectively killing off their own cubs to uphold a party line that is only acceptable to a small hardcore group. Yet it affects the majority of users there.

You can see why this is a shoddy construction to uphold a forum, but that's ERA.

How do you mean? That they filter the sensible users? Because that's true.
Or that the sensible users will leave the place on their own? Because for all its intents and purposes, a lot of people were upset that ERA introduced another subforum and threatened with leaving, and within 24 hours, it was restored.

What the community mostly dislikes is how the staff hardly interacts on these decisions. Unfortunately, with all that talk on leaving the ship, people remain onboard, so their dissent has no consequences attached to it for ERA as a whole.

GamingThread gamers = people who play games. same thing
Reason User Banned (1 week): Downplaying the impact of hate movements, dismissing others
It's not about pride, I'm just stuck on the logical part of this argument. "Gamer" literally means "a person who plays video games or participates in role-playing games." I'm not letting that be redefined as "Gamergate people" because of peoples prejudice. Gamergate is a particularly American phenomenon and a particularly niche internet phenomenon. The meaning of the name "Gamer" doesn't change Worldwide because of what is going on, on the American internet. I'm from the UK. I can tell you a fact that Gamer here is the dictionary definition.
That's all it takes for a weeks ban.

Gaming side is actually nice, but it seems that slowly its turning into a off topic where everything is becoming political and you have to be very careful to not get banned. I barely post there anymore because it is just stressful.

The thread about Smash Bros was bizarre to me, many people who told that complaining about this in a game about smash got banned for "dismissing minorities" or something like that.

Nah, that has always been the case. You were just lucky by avoiding those topics/issues (or simply were oblivious to them happening). It hasn't gotten any worse or better in the past year on their idiotic political insertions.

I've been tracking the numbers of Reset for awhile and did two experiments with accounts there with some volunteers. Since January and ending in August.

One thing to note is they boast their numbers but their membership (after removing bans) and their active posting rate is splitting further and further apart. There is a top 19% of posters doing over 40% of the posting.

Then I and some others took some accounts in the following experiment, one half would post in active threads, and one half would posts in slow threads. We made sure all accounts had zero posts before we started.

All 17 accounts were banned. None of them cursed or attacked another user, that's the big thing, the posts made were generally about the topic or/and the opinion of the subject posted in the OP, not any interaction with other members (except DMs which I'll get to).

3 of the accounts were banned for attacking users. Which is impossible for the reasons I said above yet it happened.

4 accounts were Pm'ed by members that didn't agree with the views that were posted. We had 2 respond back, one saying please leave me alone, and then reporting the DM, and the other just continuing the conversation in PM expressing the opinion and asking for no hard feelings.

Both accounts were banned for harassing others users via DM even though the users being replied to where the senders themselves.

The rest were banned for numerous other reasons. One was banned for being transphobic because one member posted a link to some study and our account posted a link from the SAME website showing that the study was wrong.

One said that were disrespectful for women by saying that "some women have lied in the past, but I believe that these ladies are innocent, still we should never immediately assume no women ever lies. But that's a different topic" for the kavanugh stuff.

One was banned because people were talking about what character they picked in some fighting game and people were talking about women being in bikinis or other outfits and our account said "I wouldn't want to play as a women because of all this." which got a bunch of responses and we defend ourselves by saying "it disrespects women to play as bikini women for sex" which is EXACTLY what the thread was about...... Yet we were banned because we didn't support women empowerment. But...the thread was complaining about sexualization of women in....ugh...

Then there were times we copied other members posts from earlier in large threads, including debate threads, mostly in off-topic but some on the gamer side, and we got banned for those posts despite them being made by a senior member and people coming to agree with their opinion. We were banned because of the content in the post, not for copying it. So it seems post account allows you to post against popular opinions apparently. Which is uh... Dumb. So any new users not really agreeing with a set hive mind in a thread is basically banned imediately even if they copied another member with a high post count who has people comment positively on his opinion.

The rest were banned for either small reasons or in some cases with no message at all. Transparent huh?

I personally have an account on there but almost every thread I look at thinking I can post in it I come back from to it and then there's like 7 people in the grave. Posting with a count below 20 during sweep means any post you make has a 90% chance of getting you to join them regardless of what the post is about.

The fact NPD let's Matt post there is baffling, or maybe they don't really care since he's being vague. But I know many companies that aren't going to have people post on Reset or here (since here was just like reset before they launched the site. I hope one day New Neogaf can attract these guys again.

In my experience ResetERA has learned nothing from GAF. They're still the same, draconian liberal, SJW echo-chamber that GAF was. If you disagree with any left-wing talking point, there's a good chance you'll be banned, possibly forever.
Reset is worse because there's not prominent alternate viewpoint there. So it's basically one way or just don't post until the smoke clears.

Ok, which of the prominent Era posters are the good ones? Nirolak? Shinobi? Besada? Oh, c'mon.
Yes, absolutely the bolded. Reading how deeply involved he was in the early stages together with Cerium should tell you all you need to know

Besada: Tagteamed with Cerium on Discord over a lot of policy related stuff, there was an attempt to reinstate him aswell, this got removed and it got translated as a fake thing or whatever.
Cerium: Still runs ERA but as he ain't as in the public as Evil is, nobody knows what he is or who he does.

I mean, if Cerium actually cared... scrap that, Cerium does not really care how ERA is viewed, as long as it validates its existence.

Cerium is the one that runs the era? I always wondered which of the guys started it. I thought it was a far more radical person given some of the admin list like Nicole and a few others that seem to have no problems cursing and insulting people.

Cerium is lead admin, then there are some others who are also admins (and mod captains). This is public information.

Cerium AFAIK already had a dislike for Evil back here but don't quote me on that (Actually do that and prove this wrong lol).
People like SweetN and various Little Helpers were the worst on GAF, so its no surprise that they ended up being the worst on ERA.

It sucks because the majority of users isn't like that i reckon, just naive. Effectively a minority of variety controls the majority there.

But yeah, when you put "above the rules" people in mod and admin positions it makes Era worse than old gaf by a margin. So much off-topic stuff going into gaming threads, heck a few times it was without context and an entire thread about a game turned into a completely different topic.

Was this Cerium guy some sort of a bigshot on the oldGAF?
Doubtful. Lead snowflake most likely. There was like a dozen replacement Gaf sites 12 months ago.

What I have heard about most of the leadership there is they were the OMG literally shaking posters here. They require their own website, no one else will put up with their bullshit.

Wasn't Cerium the trigglypuff that mounted that crusade when he was here to get a certain developer fired and ultimately succeeding?

Hence why that culture trickles down on his own echo chamber.
Our friends @Solomeena and @bigedole just coined the term “trickle down bullshit”. I think it applies here more than anywhere else.
