Evolution 2014 Thread 2: Evil doesn't prevail July 13th - Final day

Marvel topped it with 149k. AE always gets the shaft because late timings in Europe.

Funny thing is that it was at 147k during the actual GF. But went to 149k during the early part of the ceremony before plummeting. Smash was 137k and the highest I saw USF4 at was 130k.

And I will shut up about Louffy now. I shouldn't have even said that stuff in the first place but what's done is done. I won't shut up about Rose though, I've been hating on her for years.

Ok I understand. Too early to judge the new characters. From based on this weekend which one will be getting used the most?
I mean, there are always going to be a bunch of players playing EVO champ characters because of a believed "tier" whoring? Which means we'll see more Fei, more Rose, more Sagat. And then in a few weeks they'll all disappear, either because they find out that they don't fit their playstyle, or they give up because they were never that interested to begin with.

I still think the hypest thing for me was Reynald winning KoF last year.. I always thought it was much more of a long shot for the US to win in that than SF.. Who knew?

Reynald was fucking bonkers. That whole runback had me yelling and gesturing at the end of my seat. 10/10. Were the KOF finals this year as amazing?

People are going to tier whore for a week then go back to playing their Ryus/Evil Ryus online.

No but the BBCP finals this year were just as good as the KOF finals of old. Best GF out of any game this EVO easily.

Tokido Xiaohai was pretty decent, but it wasn't up to previous years KOF hype. It didn't help that the commentary was really bland this time around too.

Yeah this was really surprising. Sako has incredible execution, so it was very strange to see him dropping combos. Very glad to see him place well either way, he's one of my favorite players and he is a lot of fun to watch.

Sako was the only guy that got both top 8 last year and top 8 this yeqr

Amen. Rose isn't game breaking cheap by any means, but the amount of supers he had was ridiculous, and on top of that she gets 2 out of jail cards for free with U2. And of course Louffy's hardest match was the one where he had to use U1.

But Evil Ryu is tier whoring! :O
People have been using Evil Ryu ever since he was in AE. He's like the ultimate online warrior character and this is ver. 2012 I am talking about. His usage in Ultra went up like 2000% because he got buffed but he was always a very common character I saw online.

He who pursues two rabbits gets two rabbits.
I'm curious, what are the standings for Capcom Cup now? Seems like the official website hasn't been updated since 2013.

Back in the hotel room. My ears are still ringing from the ballroom. EVO was an unmatchable expereince, I feel truly lucky I was able to be a part of it this year. I will definitly try my best to come every year from now on.

Melee proved it is the GOAT video game.
Blazblue proved that anime is hype.
KI proved that it is very loud.
Marvel proved its not dead.
USF4 proved that Sako is a god.

Also shoutouts to all the gaffers I met here: smedwicks, master milk, quadratic, vulva, sandman, Qistoptier, shouta, proffesser beef, and more (sorry if i forgot you).

Tokido vs Xiao Hai GF was an excellent set in KOF. It was an excellent set because every game was really close and the result was up in the air until the last game which is what made it exciting. Plus both players were playing great. It didn't have the result that I wanted it to but it was still a great GF... just not as good as the KOF GFs of the last two years (which I still consider anomalies).

I had the commentary on mute though.

Hah! Amazing. Congrats Louffy. :)

A great day for Europe - first time wins in the Americas at both the World Cup and Evo!

First SF EVO at least :) DTN won Soul Calibur II back in '03, Ryan Hart took Tekken 5 in '08, and Malek won Soul Calibur IV in '09

The assumptions that people had from the patch notes seems to be correct, there just wasn't enough time to implement it. This weekend was about character loyalty, along with a bit of luck when it comes to character buffs. The biggest disappointments were the players that jumped ship, hoping for buffs to carry them.

People like Dieminion, Ricky and Bonchan did better than what people would have expected with those characters. My guess is that next year, Ricky and Bonchan will be playing different mains. Dieminion is a Guile loyalist to a fault.

So people are forgetting that Justin Wong beat ChrisG with POINT Storm.

Yes that's right... POINT STORM!!!!

My mind was blown when he made that switch but I said to myself "never doubt the Wong".

justin's storm was like a fucking 12 on a 10 point scale

somehow by using point storm he baited chris g into attempting to rush her down instead of astraling up and peppering storm w 5 million fireballs

and every time he chased after justin storm just slipped away and akuma came in and kicked everyone to death

I missed KOF Finals, but everyone is shitting on the commentary. It makes me want to check it out just to see how bad it was.

Bonchan been playing Sagat since vanilla and he's been getting nerfed since Vanilla. If he hasn't switched by now I don't see him ever switching. He is Sagat.

Would have been even more amazing if Louffy had actually won it with a 360 controller. That dpad would be the ultimate handicap.

Also, how come I can't fastforward the srkevo1 rebroadcast?

The commentary wasn't horrible, it was just really boring, and was very lacking in the hype/enthusiasm. The guys commentating would have been a better fit for pools but definitely not Top 8

Alioune, who many considered to be Europe's best for a long time, does just fine with a 360 pad.

That was a good EVO. Time to eat some Vegas food, mingle with the people, get wrecked, and then maybe get wrecked again (in SF4)....or gamble.

Decisions, decisions.
