But as a complete newcomer to Street Fighter, I was watching the health bars and is Ryu traditionally that powerful? Or it's just SFV Ryu that has the insane damage. There was a 3 hit combo or something that took off ~40% of Lupe's life that popped up every now and again.

i think those were crush counter combos so yeah those do a ton of damage.

I honestly don't think Daigo was holding back in the last round. When Lupe went into v-trigger I think that's when he caught Daigo off guard.

For real though, that shit was lit. It was obvious they both thought it was FT5 and Daigo was messing around near the end there. It wasn't staged, it was Daigo still figuring out SFV and messing around with Lupe.

Still a good win for Lupe.

Daigo has had the game for some time. Markman mentioned it on the Madcatz tournament stream a few weeks ago. It was staged, you are buggin if you thought it wasn't tho it is possible Daigo didn't know it was a FT3.

He was doing crush counter, basically certain normal moves put them in a reeling state off a counter hit that allows a really damaging followup. Basically Daigo was doing it after whiffed dps. It's obvious it was sandbagging, because of him not just blocking on wakeup and doing stuff like parrying on top of him or on a jump in (it's pretty easy to figure out why these things are a bad thing to do), since every single blocked or whiff dp would mean Lupe lost that much health. It's entertaining, and I do find this pretty hilarious though.

i think those were crush counter combos so yeah those do a ton of damage.

Crush counters are usually done with Fierce punch/kick and stuns the character longer than normal, so you can follow up with a full combo. It's like landing a jump in fierce kick twice before you do a combo, would do massive damage in any game

It's still a win against Daigo, despite whatever conditions there may have been on it. Pretty sure though the outcome wasn't already planned.

Daigo was definitely having fun, but I don't think Lupe winning was a foregone conclusion. Daigo clearly went for the DP in the last match that would have won him the entire set if it connected.

Even if he legit missed the DP or went for the fierce that got stuffed, he clearly controlled the match and dictated the outcome. Sometimes he played seriously, sometimes he chose to eat DP's, sometimes he wanted to see if he could show off a really cool parry for the crowd and stream. Throughout the set he was switching between medium and heavy DP to anti-air. It wasn't staged, but he was in full control of the outcome the entire time. And honestly I'm glad he did what he did. It made for a better show. Seeing Lupe's pop off and his mad respect to Daigo was great to watch.
