Damn does Pilou Asbaek look like Ewan as Obi Wan

I'll admit, my first thought was totally 'is that Ewan McGregor?'. Thankfully it isn't.

That said... 'ScarJost in the Shell' is a terrible moniker.

On set pictures and we still have people ask stuff like "where is eye that is going to be CG if it is there anyway."

Lots of weird complaints in this thread so far. If the characters are still supposed to be Japanese then it's awful that they are played by Caucasians. However we still don't know if they're Japanese in this adaptation, so with that out of the way...

They look about as good as you could expect them to for live action versions of anime characters.

Keep in mind they're set pics and not officially released photos. There are no effects or post-processing on any of these pictures and thus they will look very different in the final product or officially released stills. Additionally they may not even be filming a scene in these shots.

Regarding Batou's eyes, it might be something they add in post rather than a wearable prop considering that particular prop would render the actor completely blind.

SAC is better than the movies. The movies are from a period, which started with Patlabor 2, when Mamoru Oshii started to insert whole expository scenes of meandering philosophical nonsense into his films.

Eh, I prefer SAC to the movie by a huge margin.

It's so bad though. I can't get over happy aw shucks with a social life Motoko.
Art style and animations don't do anything for me either. The films have this really eerie and otherwordly feeling to everything and SAC has none of that.

Guys, come on. You read the manga, the good parts of 1.5, then SAC + 2nd GIG, then 1995 movie if you have time. You read summaries of Innocence and Solid State Society and then you pretend nothing else exists. Unless you can find a copy of the PS1 game, which I hear is pretty good.

Man, these photos are weird. It stirs some kind of weird curiosity, but also a vague anxiety.

I remember Motoko telling everyone to shove off while Batou and Togusa went off and had an aw shucks social life.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
There's only one scene in which Motoko doesn't look bored out of her skull. It's in the books and you can bet your sweet bum you won't see that in a film. Ever.

You mean her having hot lesbian simstim sex? Yeah, that's not gonna be in the animus either. :x

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that it's weird, though preferable to a complete whitewashing, that in the end they only really whitewashed a couple of the lead characters but not the rest of the movie. I don't really know how to react to this movie.

People are gonna use all kind of lame excuse to justify Hollywood whitewashing.

Shooting at a city with 95% Chinese population: So? They have foreigners too.

I don't compare the art as they both have elements I prefer, however
SAC Motoko's design is just so iconic me(with her English dub voice) to easily accept the others.
Just radiates as a great female character and a great military character as well.

Was confident in Scarjo choice becore, and even moreso now.

On some level, with the abundance of GitS material available I would have almost preferred a good Appleseed adaptation, but I feel that this movie has a good shot at being the first true great live anime adapation to the big screen (love Avalon to death, but it's both not an adaptation of anime in spite of its influences, and probably too flawed to be recognized as "great" - even if I think it is).

Hollywood can't handle Briareos. He's just too damn awesome. People would leave cinemas crying for how unattainably cool he is.
