Designated Survivor |OT| President Bauer Power Hour

Time for straight hatewatching.

Holy shit, reading the comments of the AVC review reminded me that the only reason they found the terrorist video WAS BECAUSE IT WAS IN FUCKING PAL FORMAT. We deserve a better breed of network drama.
I mean, after the second episode, it was clear that this is going to be a dumb action political thriller in the vein of 24.

Watch it all be some secret American group who wants to Make America Great again and thinks America is dying so tries to start another war to bring everyone together. Except instead of torturing people or shooting them in the leg, this Jack Bauer uses speeches as his weapon to take out the bad guys.

Hack attack in the cold opening, an agent disregarding the chain of command, there's a damn mole in our midst. Good lord, this truly is '24 in the White House'

Keep it up, Designated Survivor.

Aiii

So not worth it

I fail to see a problem in any of this.

I am surprised how much I am enjoying this show. Sutherland can carry a show on his own.

The only part I really hate is Maggie Q and her ''rebellious'' investigations.

This show feels in the spirit of 24 in a lot of ways and you can tell they're having fun with it. From some of the music cues, to Jack's dramatic encounter with the Nuclear Football, and that wonderfully telegraped "damnit!" last episode. Hell the framed Middle Eastern country/pressure on POTUS to respond storyline happened in 24 TWICE. Even the FBI agent is in the classic Bauer role of being 100% right about everything and having to go off book to prove it.

TBH I'm surprised no one opened up a socket during the hack.

I don't think it ever made any secret about that, to be honest. It was perfectly obvious that that was what they intended with the premise, even if the pilot could have gone off in a different -better- direction. Which is why I was fine with the second episode being the way it is. This one however, from the reporter saying "this is the only survivor" I knew the writing was in trouble. A reporter would say: "this is the only known survivor", because they want people to hope and keep watching. And then the Cyber thing happened. 'oh no my computer is cybered. So much cyber'.
Well, that's where my brain checks out on too much stupid. Never enjoyed 24 either, aside from the concept and presentation. Watch a few episodes, bail out.
Like with LOST, except for some reason people actually thought that was gonna be great. The fuck is wrong with you people. :'D (I did see The Constant though, which was legit great, but the rest of it: hell naw)

God this show is such trash. It's a shame since there's legitimate potential but it's being buried under formulaic network drama shit. Of course the surviving congressman wasn't telling the truth! Of course Kirkman's honesty is going to backfire on him! Never mind that binary devil and angel on each shoulder garbage. When will Natasha Mchelone get anything to work with that isn't generic family crap? HACKERSSSSSS AND CYBER

Why hatewatch and why not just... not watch?

Pretty much on the same boat. Only reason I´m still watching this is because of Bauer.

The hacking part was really dumb. "OMG, we found an extension windows doesn´t recognize or some shit."

Can´t those tv producers use a tiny part of the show budget to hire some IT consultants or something?

Just watched the pilot. This is just a too absurd and unrealistic scenario for me to buy into. Iran doesn't have a US ambassador!

I'm enjoying this show so far. It's Jack Bauer as President, and that's pretty much what I expected and wanted.

I already figured out who did the bombing though,
it was the General guy that keeps pushing for him to attack someone and start a war.

why do you trust this woman, pls Jack

Been thinking that the whole time.

As someone said previously, I think that's way too obvious to actually be the real culprit.

Danthrax

Batteries the CRISIS!
Aaron is a highly sought-after man, apparently.

[edit] Oh snap! It's a full-blown insurrection in Michigan!

Does it not seem like a bad idea for the president's first military act after a terrorist attack to be on home territory.

edit: or I guess not lol

Great job kid, way to make it worse lol.
"The Kirkman whitehouse everyone" oh piss off you just wanted brownie points for getting in a zinger lol

Fuck off General, "I wasn't expecting you." No shit. ;)

Heh.
Oh yeah, no wonder they're off for a week, damn.

Cool. Was pretty fast so I'll have to hear it again and she'll obvliously just be the cool voice on the phone, since she does a lot of random voice stuff in live action, but that sounded a lot like Bridget Hoffman (KOS-MOS from Xenosaga).

So, just now realizing there's an OT for this. I love this show. It's like The West Wing with no chill and I really dig it.

As for tonight's episode...

- Kirkman is done playing games, goddamn.
- The Republican DS needs to, in the worst way, STFU and GTFO.
- TRAITOR! The governor being arrested for treason got me good. That's what you fucking get, bitch! I do feel a little bad for Emily though; she finally somewhat placated the man and then Kirkman drops the mic.
- "General, you're fired!" FINALLY, Kirkman does what he SHOULD have done three episodes ago. I was cheering.
- I am trying to like Maggie Q in this, but it's hard for me to. I know there needs to be conspiracies and mysteries to keep the show interesting, but the current Side-B FBI plot does nothing for me whatsoever.

Anyone who thinks this is a bad thing is unamerican! ;)

You're not required to spoiler tag things that have aired on TV. Pretty much agreed with everything you say.

It's worth noting that in reality, a President can't actually fire a General.

Watched 2 episodes and finding it way over the top drivel. Don't think that the acting is that good. The plot and the story is very much in a predictable formula.

Much better produced shows on tv st the moment, does it get better.

Maybe it's because I'm from the UK, but the whole rhoetoric of the show is disturbing
