Fire Emblem Direct - January 18th, 4PM CST (Japan confirmed, FE Mobile unveiling)

Fair enough. I like to think IS attempted to ease the newer players into those sort of features through the Awakening -> Birthright -> Conquest line of games. Conquest sort of acts as a middle ground between Awakening and the older games in that regard with most of the features you stated but with Casual mode acting as a small buffer.

I think a re-release depends on how much Nintendo/IS wants to invest in updating older games to have a set of features closer to Awakening. There's plenty they can do to update the games already, but I think that adding a Casual/Phoenix Mode and tweaking things to better suit handheld play are important for accessing the audience that Awakening attracted.

According to Famitsu, the FE Direct has only really been announced on the American side. Did NoJ say anything about the FE Direct on their side?

If there's no Japan Direct, it may just be an NoA-only short thing about the missing Fates DLC, amiibos and may only have a tiny amount of info about Warriors. There may not even be FE mobile news.

I definitely think that if a re-release of PoR/RD was to happen, it would be more or less a straight port with updated visuals. I can't see any of your proposed changes being implemented even if Fire Emblem: Tales of the Blue Flame HD Collection sounds like a dream game
minus the Micaiah part!

Wait really?

This was already being discussed, but yeah. The Nintendo Treehouse stream and Nintendo of America's Twitter are the only sources that have mentioned there being a Fire Emblem Direct. Nintendo has been otherwise completely silent about it. No reference to it anywhere else.

If I remember correctly, I don't believe there's really been any precedent for Nintendo to take their time to announce a Direct for other regions, so I'm inclined to think this may very well be only for North America for whatever reason.

You're probably right in that if a re-release happens it will be close to a straight port, but even then I think there will have to be some reconciliation between the different regional releases. I don't see them updating and releasing multiple versions of the same game for different regions with content as major as difficulty levels differing between regions (outside of Virtual Console). They'll either use the newer USA/PAL version of the game as a base, which will have slightly more content (like unique Dawn Brigade weapons) at the expense of the highest difficulty mode (for PoR at least), or they'll make a new version of the game that hopefully supersedes the original release difficulties.

I remember when Fire Emblem 1-6 never came out in NA and Nintendo completely ignored the series here.

Now we're getting region exclusive Directs. We made it.

Man, the information that would come from something like this seems like it wouldn't have an especially wide audience reach. I'm big on FE, but an NA-only Direct for it makes me want to drop straight out.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I sincerly believe NoA got an early announcement for the Direct, but between today and tomorrow more details will be finalised. Especially considering how there's no page (as I know) on Nintendo's official website about this Direct, just the mention on Twitter. And that could be counting as part of NoA's Twitter account live-tweeting news and events from the Treehouse. Actually, do we have the specific starting times for different world zones? Mere curiosity.

Also, again, the FE Direct announcement was related to Fire Emblem Warriors. Exact words from the Treehouse Livestream

"So, last night, if you were tuned in the stream coming from Japan, you saw a tiny teaser of Fire Emblem Warriors, [...] and we're actually going to be showcasing a Fire Emblem Direct next week, for you guys, so that you can get some more information and check it out a little deeper

It's going to be there.

I'm a bit confused, but why have a direct about one game? Is it because the series is that big? Why couldn't a trailer just be dropped during the switch direct it's self? A little odd tbh

It's happened before for other series, and there's a solid chance it won't just be one game. They may well detail both FE Warriors and the upcoming FE mobile game, which we still know nothing about.

I love Fire Emblem and I love Hyrule Warriors, so I am extremely excited to see more about this. If it's packed with fan service like HW (and more polished), Fire Emblem Warriors will be a blast to play.

Expecting japan and euro to announce the direct in a day or two.

Also it's NCL not NoJ.

I heard there is rumor about possible release of older FE not translated in the west, is that true ?
I haven't heard that, but it'd be awesome.

Would be nice way to drum up hype for Warriors I guess. But the translation is probably more expensive than it's worth for them.

They should probably have directs every 2 weeks until launch if they hope to turn around the current opinion on the Switch

Based on what I've seen, GAF (and other forums) is really the only place making a big deal out of things other than price and paid online. There are complaints about the launch line-up as well, but that's just another thing that'll make people hold off on buying the system rather than turning them off completely. I don't think that GAF is the best place to use as a measure of public opinion.

Not really a rumor, Chrom (the poster) noticed that NCL and NOE don't have an announcement for this direct so some people (including me) are speculating on a six or twelve vc release. Just really idle speculation and nothing more than that.

This is what I speculate as well (although I'm leaned towards FE6 more than FE12).

I'll be more likely to play the FE Mobile game if it's a card game than if it's a real strategy game. I like the artwork in the series. I like card games. I like good music. I want fast games on my phone with nice UIs and quick execution. Unless they design it like Terra Battle, then I'm okay with that too!

I'd prefer something like a small scale strategy game to a mobile card game, tbh. Like, think those Chess Challenge things, , where there's a handful of pieces on the board and you have to suss out the winning series of moves. Bigger than those mind, but still smaller than regular FE. Have characters level up and unlock as you run through maps, with maybe micro transactions to supplement that, and a steady stream of new maps... I'd play it.

Am I really the only one who believes they could announce a 3DS FE this week? It's been two years since they announced FE Fates. Seems about right in terms of dev cycle?

3DS FE getting announced like 15 minutes before their new portable console drops would be really strange and unintuitive, so that feels like a safe bet.

To be fair it would not be the first direct announced on the day before if they announce it on Japan/EU

I, realistically, think this is the case. They said there was gonna be FE Warriors footage there, I don't see why Japan and EU wouldn't get that footage.

The FE6/12 English VC release conspiracy is my favorite though

Its incredibly unlikely but the this direct would be at 7 AM in Japan, which would be an awful time for them.

Its probably going to be nothing, though.

I passed on Hyrule Warriors, but may dabble in this one despite not really feeling Fire Emblem characters as much.

I wanna see how performance here compares to Hyrule Warriors.

Don't worry, I don't actually expect VC translations.

I'm expecting about two seconds of FE warriors footage, and I will be content.

Tangentially, I was looking for a list of Nintendo Directs, but the ones I can find don't have the original airtime listed...

I feel like they're mainly going to focus on FE1, Awakening, and Fates. They'll release older Lords and skin swaps as DLC.

Give me a port of #FE and more info on FE Warriors.
That's all I need out of this Direct.
Maybe more amiibos would be nice, but not necessarily needed. My wallet can only get so empty.

I guess if it were a mobile version of the card game, it would be kinda cool if it was done like Pokemon's TCG.

A code card in every pack, and you start with a starter deck in the game and though completing certain challenges, you can get more packs online.

Doubt it would happen, but I would be hyped for that.

I like the rumor that intelligent system is full of switch games so I hope, even if I doubt, that they tease a switch fire emblem

Possible more than likely going to be shown/announced during the direct: Fire Emblem Mobile, Fire Emblem Warriors. Also Amiibo's, Amiibo's and more Amiibo's

Stuff I hope is shown or at least teased or mentioned: Fire Emblem Switch, Fire Emblem Tellius Duology remaster.

Still no Japanese announcement for the Direct. If there isn't one then I retract all my expectations of there being anything worthwhile or substantial being announced!

I wouldn't. There is 100% going to be new details about FE Warriors on this direct. They said as much on the treehouse. NA only direct or not, that means we're going to get new information.

It not being a FE Warriors specific Direct, but a FE franchise Direct means there will be at least one other title relating to the franchise apart from Warriors shown on it.

What's the point of this Direct if Japan isn't doing it too? I take back everything if Japan doesn't have one.

Lame.

I'm pretty sure they said it would have some information on Fire Emblem Warriors. I should go back and watch that segment again, but I wouldn't get all weird about it right now.

Wait and see? I don't get this line of thinking.

Well, it is a trend that pretty much became a thing to expect from Directs in the last few years: No Japanese announcement pretty much equated with no other new game announcements or surprises.

I'd certainly love that trend to change, though.
