They're probably waiting to find out their fate before they make it a season or series finale.

I mean, maybe they'll hold off a bit, but they're on a schedule. They can't just wait for a decision. If it were to be canceled, it's possible it wouldn't happen until right before the end of the season.

Basically, absolutely nothing has changed:
-we always knew the show would be coming back in spring
-we always knew it would keep filming because that's what shows do

Yeah, promoting a struggling show (that we're huge fans of) in their most watched commercial of the entire year is a bad thing. This shows me they have some faith in the show after all.

But it's a terrible commercial and one that makes me lose (even more) faith in NBC as a viable network.

I loved the commercial, everyone I watched it with loved it, and the reaction on the entire rest of the internet (twitter, youtube, nbc.com, tumblr, gaf, reddit) that I have seen has been very positive. So positive that I don't think I've seen a single person complain about the ad yet.

You, sir, are in the huge minority.

As a side note, on every youtube copy and on nbc's site virtually every comment is "so bring back community". Think that's a goodish sign.

I've seen plenty of people complain about the ad on Facebook. I'm not saying I hated the ad, I'm glad the show is getting some attention, but it's too little (probably) too late. It helps NBC more than it helps Community.
It just seems weird to me that a network would promote itself with a show that it didn't even deem worth keeping on the air.

Okay, not attacking you here but instead the generally negative feelings: this is fucking ridiculous. How in the hell is there backlash against this ad.

It helps NBC and Community. How is that bad thing at ALL. Sure it helps NBC as a whole more because they have so many damn shows. Community IS in it and was advertised during the bowl. Were some of you expecting a full freaking 30 second spot for Community? Do any of you know how much that would cost? And it's not like a 30 second ad that most people would be stuffing their faces with nachos during would double Community's viewers and bring it back on the air. It would be the least cost-effective move ever made on a network that famous for slowly climbing down the toilet.

I was watching this in the first season too, everyone. And people like to complain that this wasn't advertised enough or something. It was in the first season. And as it lost viewers but maintained a devoted, stable and small fanbase it was advertised less. Because it doesn't need to be anymore. The fact is there is zero chance this show is going to grow a ton. That simply won't happen.

The issue at this point is what Community represents for the network. It's critically adored and has rabid followers. Film crit Hulk (awesome writer) talks about this critical cachet and how it gets viewers to think of a network as a better place, which has a residual effect on other shows. Community represents the kind of show you get nowhere else and keeping this show would keep NBC in all of our good graces. That's why we need to tweet at advertisers and make a big deal over 7 seconds of dancing and why NBC can promote themselves with Community: because it represents all of NBC Thursday. Community represents the edge of TV. NBC is making sure of that and you better goddamn bet they're factoring that into their decision about when to bring it back and whether to renew it. They aren't idiots. And we know they love Community. They didn't deem it unworthy to keep on the air because they don't like it or understand it. It was pulled because its ratings are s-h-i-t SHIT.

So of course it's too late to gain ratings. Of course this ad promotes NBC more than it promotes JUST Community: that's the idea. But anyone railing against the ad is so far away from getting the point that they've likely crossed over into the darkest timeline and are drooling mad over their goatees as they rant against NBC. These fanboy communities like this often lose track of rationality and reality solely because they love a show so much that they get angry at everyone involved. Be a little bit logical, please. It's the thing that will save the show in the end.

You're getting waaaaaay more worked up over my not loving the ad than I was over the ad itself.

I'm really not looking for a fight, but I have to ask, how exactly will my behavior (logical or otherwise) influence the show's future? I don't live in the US. We don't get NBC here, I can't contribute to the show's ratings. I can and will buy all the seasons on DVD, but that's pretty much it as far as stuff I can do.
I've told my friends about the show and that they should check it out, but it doesn't seem to resonate with audiences here.

I said it wasn't a response to you. It was to the amount of displeasure people have been having at NBC's every move when they only deserve it sometimes.

Your tweeting and commenting and whatever makes it altogether more obvious what level of cachet Community has, therefore making the show more valuable to NBC. That's what the entire article I posted is about.

I will buy that shirt as soon as I get home and decide which size fits me. I bought a shirt from them but forget what size it was. I also bought a Dr. Who one last week that hasn't arrived yet. This one is much better.

I love the ongoing gimmick of the dean dressed in the same costume as one of the ladies.

Though I am surprised he hasn't copied Jeff yet.

Damn! I missed the Calvin and Hobbs-Community shirt!

Anywhere else that has it (and ships internationally for a reasonable price)?

Shaneus referenced the awesome Red Bubble earlier; they've still got it. All kinds of colors too. Catch is that it's a much higher price.
Eh, if you're buying an awesome shirt it doesn't matter how much you pay (unless it's over $50 or so, obv.). In this case, I was actually relieved that I got to choose the colour. I can never pull off red, the darker purple looks better IMO and besides, if everyone got theirs from the same place in the same shade, wouldn't you want to get it from somewhere else? ;)

Unless you're poor! :l

And I doubt I'll ever see someone else wearing the shirt ha

I like the red one so I don't mind spending $12.50. Not sure I'd want to spend $30 just to be able to pick a color. I also don't have like any red T-shirts so...

I genuinely didn't really like the ad the first time I saw it (more of a WTF reaction than actual hate), but on second viewing, post-Smash, I mostly enjoy it.

Parks and Recreation went off air similarly last year, and it was in the ad as well. Community has a good and varied cast, it perfectly fits with that 10-15 seconds into the ad's theme, and it is a little too early to call the burial service - the show will come back this season.
