Final Round XV: Cross Assault Survivors Reunion | Fighting game tournament | Mar. 2-4

In regards to US taking Tekken, you do realize that FR Hoa (my teammate) is one of the best in the world right?
Heck, ATL has some of the best players in the world in general for that game.

So.... story is

Justin and Wolfkrone agreed to split before GF, after GF Wolf was like "Nah this doesn't feel right."

YOOOO E-SPORTS!

Wolf getting some hate... now from other top players.

I gotta call bs on that. It's too much too lose to do that especially what happened last year to Justin at Powerup. EVO don't play around and will kick you out even if your name is Justin Wong.

Also the reason for top players being pissed at Krone is because they think he is a Viper fraud and the only reason he wins is because of Viper.

This was at NEC, not Final Round. But definitely explains the animosity.

I see, just hearing about it now catching up on all the shit. The twitter replies make sense now. Since still bad blood from NEC.

What this about Triforce saying he should be lynched and shit? That's way too overboard....but then again it's Triforce.

At Powerup Justin played bad to give his friends more EVO points. The pot splitting thing was just the money, but they were still giving it their all for the EVO points.

Two different situations.

Well Dync3 telling Final Round stories.

It is shitty to agree to split and then not do it, but uh, it seems a pretty big deal that they would talk about that openly in a post-yellow card world.

I guess the other people's reactions just has to do with a bunch of those guys being a pretty tight knit group.

I might think it's shitty to split regardless. Undermines the integrity of the competition.

Krone is free. He won't even show up to EVO 2013, bet that. I'd pop off to Krone too if I was there cause he can't see me. Tryna act like he big pimpin and he gonna steal that cash off Justin after they had a contract.

Dude is way too fraudulent with his one character shenanigan. Yo get at me without Viper, Krone

. I'm the best Ryu in the GOT DAMN business, Krone. Holla atcha boy!

Congrats DBJoseph. This is the first time I seen you play and you put in that work, the only match I wish I got to see you beat Ricky.

I have a feeling Krone isn't going to be a threat to many top players in sfxt. He does seem to be a character specialist as his rose, sak and dudley are all bad, but who knows. All viper does is maul, I don't think theres any characters that would fit that style in sfxt, but we'll have to wait and see.

It's shitty to predeterminely agree to fix the match one way or the other in a major competition. The faster EVO or whoever else squash that out of the scene the better it be for everyone.

.....that's like wanting the tourney organizers to get rid of showing up to majors drunk. Or heck trying to get tourneys to start on time.

No one is fixing the match they are still playing for evo points. They are just making sure both go home with 45% of the pot (70-20-10 split).

Last time I check first place still get more evo points than 2nd place so they are still giving it their all. It just the money is fixed, but the results aren't. Whoever is better that day is still going to win.

Both are goals everyone should strive for in the future so why not. Obviously nothing is gonna happen overnight and there are other issues that take priority at this point in time, but that doesn't mean fixing matches (blatantly) should be ok if both guys are friends or in the same team.

If both players are good and know what they're doing then there is nothing you can do about it short of one (or both) of them coming out and saying they did so.

Well, it's good that the matches were real (if the allegations of splitting the pot are even true) but it's still not a good thing to do and will probably lead to match fixing in the future.

players split pots a lot but they still wanna win...i don't think their trying is in doubt here

Then what's the point of splitting ? Insurance ?

First place gets 70% 2nd gets 20% and third gets 10%. < Standard for almost all tournaments. (UFGT does it different)

So you guarantee yourself 45% of the pot by splitting. (70+20 = 90 /2 = 45).

Let say there is a 4000 total pot.

1st = 2800
2nd = 800
3rd = 400

If 1st and 2nd split then they both would get $1800.

Which pretty much guarantee you come out positive on your trip (factor in hotel room, flight, food and other expense).

Also top players usually make that extra money loss back via money matches. If you get 2nd you're pretty much force to play money match to make sure your trip was worth it. If you split you can money match if you want or you don't have to either way your trip was a success.

Because the payout difference between 1st and 2nd is too big.

Then why not go for it and try to keep that %70 all for yourself, or just ask TO to change their payout structure to 50/30/20 or whatever players think it's more fair than what they get right now.

I've been following fighting games since 3S/MVC2 and pot splitting always bothered me, but it's not gonna change for a while so you have to live with it for now.

As a just in case? I split one of my fantasy football league championship games this year...it didn't make me try to win less - I just hedged my bets.

FR payed out to top 8, not just top 3. But still the difference between 1st and 2nd should still be pretty big.

Ronin Chaos, if you're still reading this thread. Here are a couple complaints made at SRK in case you haven't read them yet.

I'm sure you guys have a great staff overall. But it seems there are still issues and bias going around that needs to be addressed.

Personally, I'm ok with splitting, provided you don't sandbag or throw a match. I tried to split in a tourney once- when I wanted the 2nd place prize and not the first place. Said to another guy if you buy a DS for me when I win, I'll give you the PSP. Neither of us ended up winning so I ended up having to see a shitty movie instead. Served me right.

That said, there's enough shadiness among some top players as a TO I would ban the practice.

Why exactly would it lead to match fixing? What's the motivation? I don't really see what's unethical about pot splitting, if you have two equally skilled opponents and both agree they don't want to leave their reward up to chance. At the most, it could take some of the drama out of the match I guess.

Thanks for the reply. Complaints like that really bother me because I feel like they're all things that can be addressed. Every year we hear somebody complain about something, but we always hear about it AFTER the fact. I can't do anything after the tournament is over. I can do something while the tournament is going on. We don't throw events like Final Round with the intention of pissing people off, that's why comments about that one guy getting DQ'd are so frustrating.

There are definitely lessons to be learned from this Final Round. We were understaffed and needed more space, but that's because we had a GRIP of people show up at the last minute and we didn't plan to have more resources to cover that many people. We expected overflow, but not nearly that much.

And all that stuff has been talked about internally. The people who volunteered did an AMAZING fucking job. I can't take my hat off to them enough.

We're working on something to make sure that every person who runs a pool knows if any of the players in their pool are in any other game. That way we can try and avoid any issues like some folks have mentioned in those posts you quoted.

Again, I have to stress that this kind of feedback is important to us, and we will correct issues that were had, but we have to know about them, and, especially in the case of someone like LoyalSol, who got DQd, we can't fix it if we don't know about it. I'm not sure if he talked to someone, but if he talked to me, Kyah, or Larry, that would have been taken care of, within reason.

To the other gentleman in this thread that was asking me questions, I haven't forgotten about you. I'll answer your stuff tonight.

Rice-Eater, thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it.

Are you telling me that adding the element of security won't let some players just mentally give in because they want to take the money and go home since the match is already done for in their head ?

Sure they won't do something retarded like one guy holding forward while the other mashes roundhouse but that doesn't mean that they won't play the match differently than if they didn't know the money they were gonna get beforehand and really wanted the 1st prize money instead.

Some players will play it out like nothing happens because they want the 1st place title even if they know they're splitting the money, some won't though, since getting payed for your work is the ultimate goal and if half the 1st/2nd pot is good enough for them then they won't bother bringing their A game just like they did all weekend long up until that point which basically devalues the grand final.

Some of these stories about the disorganization and preferential treatment to top players is really infuriating. I would have gone HAM if I were that guy that got DQ'ed from KOF.

I can forgive the disorganization because of the crush of people, but that story about Floe doing what he did is fucking ridiculous. That should have never been allowed.

I think most of FR's problems would be solvable by having more setups and more space.

I'm not going to complain too much because I understand the circumstances. The one thing I know for certain is next year, if I come, only pre-regging for one game, then signing up for others as time permits, and also heading there on Friday not Thursday.

For me it's a four hour plus drive, so I'd rather get thursday and pick up my badge that night rather than rush there friday morning and wait in line.

I also refuse to leave until monday, because driving home sunday night is asking to get myself killed.

Good shit bro.

Sorry to revive the old thread, but i just watched the AE finals....

That was some bullshit right there.

That was the most un-exiting i have seen in a fighting game tournament in a good WHILE.

Justin wasn't even trying, dropping combos, random suppers.... i don't know what happened there. Even the commentators were surprised and attributing the mistakes to pressure... but justin is the same person that has been in tournament for many years before this and this is not EVO... i'm speechless.

this isn't the first time he's dropped combos and ultras...it happens to him a lot in SF4 surprisingly. you can pretty well tell he was trying, tho.

He drops the Rufus fadc to ultra fairly often. The commentators even noted it. He wasn't in top form but he was trying. Viper makes everyone look dumb do that 50-50 air burn kick mix-up that gives plus frames on block and safe reversal options.

Interesting article.

This line made me chuckle a tad.

"His SBO resume is full of shitty game achievements:"

That was a great read. It explains kusoru's "trollish" attitude, but I'm sorry to hear he won't come again in the US. He's definitely a character and someone who can bring glorious hype.
