RALEIGH, N.C. — Gov. Roy Cooper on Tuesday called for the removal of Confederate monuments.

In an article on Medium, Cooper wrote, “Some people cling to the belief that the Civil War was fought over states’ rights. But history is not on their side. We cannot continue to glorify a war against the United States of America fought in the defense of slavery. These monuments should come down.”

The governor’s call to remove Confederate monuments comes a day after protesters in Durham pulled down a Confederate statue in front of the Old Courthouse.

On Tuesday, one of the protesters was arrested and charged.

“Our Civil War history is important, but it belongs in textbooks and museums — not a place of allegiance on our Capitol grounds,” Cooper wrote.

Problem is that house is full of the worst republicans in the country. He should pardon anyone charged with tearing down the statues though

When this fails and it absolutely probably will it is important for people to remember not to blame Cooper. It will be the State House and Senate controlled by Republicans that will keep this from happening.

I say this now because inevitability someone finds a way to blame the most visible Democrat for everything and that's how you end up with more Republicans

Good. And if the shitty GOP state legislature tries to stop it, just pardon all of the people who forcefully remove them. They need to be gone one way or another, and anyone who would fault him for that is beyond lost anyways.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Fucking hear hear.

I guess Birmingham found the answer. They need to get on the telegraph and start spreading the word.

Cover them up and build around them. Hide them from view. Doesn't alter or remove them.
