The New Yorker: Trump, joking about Pence on gays: “he wants to hang them all!“

To some people, their money and/or bigotry is that much more important to them than their sexuality or community.

I knew a fellow gay that did this too, for this reason. Money and being anti-PC was more important to him than losing gay friends because he stabbed them in their backs.

Pence blushing: “Oh you, not ALL of them, just most of them!”
“Especially if I may find them attractive!”

What the fuck are we even doing at this point? For fucks sake!
Waiting for enough shoes to drop.

I sort of like that an asshole like pence has to take shit for a wanker like trump.

I hope they both get caught whacking it in a sauna together.

This is about as much of a joke as when a depressed person "jokes" about killing himself, or more appropriately when the alt-right "jokingly" shares nazi memes.

This isn’t to call out anyone in particular, but the whole “this bigot must secretly be gay!” stuff needs to stop. Yes, there has been many instances where deplorable morons who rally against LGBT rights turn out to be closeted, but it has become the go to excuse that people toss around to explain away the source of bigotry, including among LGBT individuals ourselves. It doesn’t help anything.

Not all homophobia is rooted in self loathing. Prejudice and hatred is an insidious epidemic that requires far more comprehensive analysis and action.

I'm not american so I don't know how credible NYPost is. All I know is that the people who identify as super religious and cry about homosexuality are usually either gay themselves or are deeply confused.

Why would you care about another persons sexuality unless it affects you in some way.

I just saw this post after I posted. And yeah... Maybe you are right.

It isn't always the cause of such hatred and shouldn't be the thing that people automatically go to.

Bigots are just that. Bigots!

Also, the whole “actually being gay all along” framed as the ultimate comeuppance is gross.

It’s bad.

This should be a huge story, but it's just a blip on most news sites. There's such inhumanity and evil in the white house that it just makes me feel hopeless and it just continues to get worse. I feel guilty for having a child in this shitty country.

And implies that only people so distraught over their own attraction to the same sex are capable of harbouring such deep-seated hatred.

Obviously it isn't a fact that only closeted gay people can have hatred towards gay people. There's plenty of Homophobes in the world to hate gay people for a plethora of nonsense reasons.

But... the religious right does have a history of attacking homosexuals in-line with their fundamental christian beliefs, whilst personally having homosexual relationships outside of their marriages.

I could never understand that position that they take. Why attack the very thing that you are? It makes no sense to me. But I don't understand anything about American Republicans, and I'm not sure I ever will.

That doesn’t take away from my point. The automatic assumption that every homophobic conservative nut case is secretly gay is a problem. Unless there’s some specific evidence to back it up, it’s a reductive practice.

Yeah I get that. And I was totally guilty of that in my first post.

It is reductive!. I do honestly think that Pence has issues with his sexuality, and just issues in general tbh, but you are totally right.

It is the thing that people go to and maybe they shouldn't. If a Right wing politician has issues with gay people it shouldn't automatically be because he is a closeted gay man.

Looks like a few people on my Facebook are sharing this story, so at least it's gaining SOME traction. I guess we wait until tomorrow to see if more news sites pick it up.

Now I really won't be able to finish Handmaid's Tale. It feels like that shit is a skip and a jump away from happening.

This is probably the single most chilling thing to come out of the white house yet.

It's not about comeuppance. So many of the most famous and virulent anti-gay republican politicans and evangelical leaders have turned out to have been secretly gay. They have issues with that aspect of themselves and externalize it.

So many people fell for these guys' bullshit, its amazing...how did the LGBT ever for a moment support these guys. How they pulled a decent percent of women's votes, no clue...Hispanic votes, Black votes...like what did they see in these guys.
Let’s please not make this about minority group’s poor votin when the vast majority of Trump were straight white men. White women being the only other group with a majority percentage.

Oh I get it, it's funny because he wants to kill a lot of people!

To Nazis and other hateful people, killing the people you hate IS funny to them.

Google some pictures of lynchings and see if some of the crowds aren't full of smiles and cheer.

For what it's worth - Trump probably isn't lying. Pence has probably told him this in confidence. Probably not the only people Pence wants to kill either.

As a gay man I find it really funny when straight people insinuate "no one cares anymore it's not a big deal." Yeah it is lol. Even in LA there's a decent amount of homophobic bigots.

Since the source is Bannon, the cynic in me cannot help but think this is a strategic move. I think he and his ilk probably want to paint a picture of Pence that is much worse than Trump, in an effort to manipulate sensible peoples' sentiments over impeachment. If more people think Pence would be worse on many of the social issues, than they may be willing to oppose impeachment (if that actually happens) from a lesser of two evils argument. It will be interesting to see if the "Pence is terrible/worse" narrative gains traction anywhere in the coming weeks and if any investigation bombshells pop up soon there after.

Yeah. "No one cares if you're gay these days" is the equivalent of "racism is over". Frequently said by people who have to neither worry about racism and/or homophobia within their own lives who think that because minorities and gay people aren't being slaughtered next door it means bigotry has finally been defeated. They either have never or actively avoid looking past their own noses to realize bigotry from the verbal to the violent is still alive and well.

Come on, it's not just that. Look at him... He's not exactly a masculine dude. Combine that with his extreme attitude towards gays most likely fostered by his own self loathing growing up in a very strict religious environment and it just fits.

Well, lack of "masculinity" isn't an indicator of being gay to start and though being an Evangelical Christian means a stifling os sexual expression in many cases, that doesn't always mean homosexuality. These same people consider sex outside of marriage, multiple partners, and indulging in sexual fantasies/experimentation with an opposite-sex partner as perversions and deviancy so the fact that they have self-loathing at all isn't an indicator of much about their personal hidden proclivities. Would it be a surprise if Pence was a self-hating gay man? No. But it wouldn't be a surprise if he was an adulterer or liked child porn or was just a straight up vanilla dude who loves missionary with his monogamous female partner but also hated gay people because they disgusted him and the bible said to kill them.

I agree, lack of masculinity alone doesn't mean much but once you start ticking off a couple of the boxes on the probably gay check list it's harder to ignore.

You also don't hear trump joking that pence wants to hang adulterers, so why just the gays?
