CHOO COO!!

I'm on board! I can't wait to see how this plays! Same as Xenoblade would be just fine with me though.

i'd like for some more clarity in the systems. ive only played like 5 hours or so of the original, but some stuff seems needlessly confusing.

I'm really excited to see the doll's battle system, and hopefully they'll show that one this Friday. I'm intrigued by how the battle will be affected with the doll parts being destructible during battle.

I think you meant Agility there. ;) Plus fighting at night in areas like Satorl Marsh and Valak Mountain for almost all of the superbosses should technically be a plus not a minus lol.

It's been a while but i'm mostly sure agility gems were for dodging, which is what i ended up putting on Dunban. I 100% preferred him over Reyntime as a tank, but it takes a long while for him to get a real use out of loading him up with agility gems, mainly because of how long it took to get them.

The game was seriously beautiful, especially at night, but at the marsh i just skipped to day since I couldn't fight anything no matter what I did. I'm sure you come back, but unlike say FF12 if you sought out tougher stuff it wasn't impossible.

it was one of the few JRPG where I was roaming around for the pleasure of the battle system, but yuo know, matter of tastes. it's pretty obvious that the basic mechanic here will be very similar, don't know if the "issues" you pointed out will be any different.

Actual usage of skills was great, the style of knock things over and really feeling it was awesome to me. The AI being so bad, like Riki not using dots if there was one up on an enemy already... when his playstyle was loading up lots of dots for big damage, was aggravating as hell. I was SERIOUSLY angry that Shaula was mainly a healer, she was such a cool character design and I was hoping to be a long-range big damage dealer, but playing her was still pretty alright despite that role pigeonhole.

It got tiresome as hell that enemies 2-3 levels higher than you were basically in the realm of 'avoid until you're their level' for me, efficiency wise. Too much struggle for not enough reward.

My biggest, hugest Xenoblade problem was already addressed in having faster ways of getting around that weren't Teleporting (the mechs), so despite all of that I'm still super excited for X.

Can't wait. I noticed on the website the 2nd direct is actually called Nintendo Direct.

Maybe it's just a placeholder.

Actually, Agility affects accuracy (for physical attacks at least) as well as evasion! So with Agility gems and Agility skill links you probably could have gone without the Night Vision gems haha. Agility crystals are also relatively common IIRC (checking the wiki, it looks like Makna Forest is the earliest place you can get Rank III crystals) and by megaheating you can get 2 Rank IV Agility Gems which would put you just off of the max gem-boosted Agility value of 50. Not sure of the calculations, but that should be enough to let you take on enemies a few levels higher relatively reliably? Of course the rest depends on party setup and battle strategy, but taking on tougher stuff without fighting at night is definitely more than possible!

why would you bow out for spoilers on the battle system? that's the least spoiler-ey aspect they can divulge. lol

"Allow us to demonstrate the skill link system with this ten minute clip of the final boss battle. I know what you're thinking! 'Hey, wasn't he one of the good guys, and didn't he disappear after his mother's amnesia was cured and it was revealed that he wasn't human but that didn't matter anymore because the prophecy had been revealed to be a lie?'"

*laughs*

Why do you insist on calling them "Directs"? It's pretty much just clickbait, but we're on a forum so that doesn't even make sense.

In either case, I'll definitely have a peek at this.

I'm not quite as interested in this one, just because I'm assuming it'll all be very similar to Xenoblade, and I'm already quite familiar with Xenoblade's battle system.

I'll still watch it though.

Speaking about battle system, gaiachaos2000 on Youtube is doing low level challange on Xenoblade, when I was playing Xenoblade I always grinding level to pass the battle. Never thought the battle system could be this deep.

...Really? Is that all they have in store for GDC? Nothing against Xenoblade, but for such a giant event they need more to get in the spotlight.

The battle system hm. I did like the Xenoblade system but I went through the entire game honestly not really knowing most of what I was doing. The mix of automatic attacks and selective attacks you choose etc. Well, it was fun however. I'll probably put more attention in playing X so I'm interested to hear them explain it.

I wonder if you can switch the character you control considering this time the main character (aka your avatar) is customizable with class and stuff.

There are multiple write-ups. Everything is already fairly clear.

There has been a breakdown of combat, etc on the Giant Bomb wiki since last summer and StreetsAhead did yet another breakdown of his own a week or so ago.

Surprise special edition time pls?

They already announced a console bundle last time.

This has absolutely nothing for GDC. And GDC is not a marketing event anyway. This is a Japan-only thing.

I guess we'll finally figure out the details of Soul Voice

We already know the gist of it.

Soul Voice & Soul Stage
The other party members might call out to the player for certain actions (currently referred to as Soul Voice) which, if executed successfully, build up the Soul Stage meter. The meter is separated into three stages and attaining a new Soul Stage is rewarded with extra buffs and other bonuses during battle. The battle conditions for when a Soul Voice prompt from a party member is triggered as well as their success rewards can be fully customized by the player outside of battle.

Health
In this game, characters can only heal themselves. There is no designated healer on the character roster. Instead, health restoration of other party members happens automatically if the player successfully executes a time-sensitive button prompt during battle (Soul Voice).

The GDC isn't for the public.

It's about new technologies and possibilities for game developers, this is no gaming promotion event like E3.

And this direct has nothing to do with the GDC anyway, Japan only. :p

I was thinking... how big is the dev team behind X? Anybody knows? They must have been working on the game for quite a while but even then, a game of such huge proportions would need a lot of people behind. Are they maybe outsourcing some work?
