Xenoblade Chronicles X: April 10th Doll Presentation [up: video with subtitles]

Anyone else get a Wii U for this game? I've had mine about a year now, but this game and Zelda were the reasons to own a Wii U. I'm going to say the game disc is going to stay in my Wii U for months.

Another question, what are all the control schemes that are supported? I seriously doubt the Wiimote with classic pro controller. Probably just Gamepad and pro controller?

Yeah, this decided my Wii U purchase when it was revealed - I mean, there were other games I knew I'd enjoy (like 3D World and Mario Kart 8, the eventual Zelda, etc.), but this one sealed the deal. Hard to believe it's been over 2 years since this was first revealed in January 2013 - seems to have gone by quickly.

And I thought they used certain map and special functions on the Gamepad? Though I guess those could be optional and you can just use a Pro Controller instead.

So hype. The Dolls look completely amazing. Some of the monsters are just jaw-dropping. Not sure if I'll make use of the multiplayer, but I'm happy that it's there and optional.

Like someone else earlier, I'm trying to finish up Xenoblade relatively fast before this gets out. I
just got to Mechonis and was told to kill Egil.
About how much is left assuming I don't do too many sidequests?

Quick question...

If I left my doll somewhere that's a considerable distance from my current location, is it possible to call it to my location?

Oh snap, you can use the classic pro controller? Awesome news.

No. Look at it again. There's a dot. When there's no dot that means "nu-uh!"

We don't know.

You're in the home stretch. Last 15-20% or so. Maybe a bit less, depending on where you are exactly.

Thanks. Looks like I might be able to take my time a little to build up Colony 6 more.

I hope Zelda tries to match this. Maybe not in scale (Zelda's world will undoubtedly be smaller), but in the amount of features it exciting stuff coming from it.

LOL, did you get around to trying Majora's Mask 3D? :)

Last few months for me have been MM3D, and then RER2, and now Bloodborne, and soon the MK8/SSB DLC. So good.

Dude I want to soooo bad but I've been helping my mom get a mortgage and have kind of had to put off buying new games for the past couple of months. Not that I mind, I'm fortunate to only be 24 years old yet able to support my mom with something like this. I am currently playing a game I've had in my backlog for quite some time. I've PM'd you about it since I don't want to derail the thread :)

Alright I think I came up with a cool boss fight idea.

So we know that dolls don't operate under EM storm, we have a weather controlling enemy that induces the weather by calling out.

Start the battle in a doll, after a while, enemy summons the EM storm, forcing your squad to disembark. During this phase, you have to "part break" the part that is responsible for the induction of the EM storm to disable it. Then you go back into doll battle phase.

I'd like to see more toying with boss fights like this similar to how the final boss of Mechonis Field in Xenoblade used those cover plates.

Also, did we get confirmation that Dolls can part break the enemy?

Just found time to watch the video. It was amazing. Can't wait for the post your Doll thread. I'll probably have a main doll, but if I ever get extra cash in game I might dick around making more that are useful for different purposes, or possibly even just try to make some really cool looking ones

I think they can only "lock" it (the purple sphere in the video).

I thought they said that Dolls can't part break enemies unlike humans, which was to make it so there are some advantages to fighting outside the doll. Although maybe certain gigantic enemies could be an exception

Pretty sure one of the first trailers showed a Doll cutting off a monsters tail or arm or something

Yep, but not only. MH3U, Bayo 2, Zelda U and the backwards compability were reasons just as equal ^^

- Since there's been no big new JRPGs yet on PS4/XB1 (unless you count Bloodborne, which I'd say is a different genre), this is probably the best looking game of its type out there right now.

A PSP port just sold a million copies because of a demo for an upcoming game. Don't know how Persona 5 will break, but I'm guessing PS4 sales won't be a slouch there.

I've not really seen any indication the JRPG audience is on the Wii U. I haven't seen any indication there's an audience for anything besides established Nintendo characters on the Wii U, so Xenoblade X's screwed in a few ways here.

Going to make a squad with gaf. I'll probably try to be generous with the gift feature and put stuff up that I don't need all the time. It's cool that it's put into a pot, where players can mark if they want it and then it's given at random between interested parties. Better for forum squads like I'll join than give directly to one person, or give completely at random

Reading comments around the internet, people are now afraid this game focuses on multiplayer. Come on now, there is a reason they showed it last people. It's there for those that want it but not required.

They're jumping at conclusion WITHOUT reading anything.
If they read, they will know that the co-op is only for missions named Squad but you can still do them in solo.

Internet is crazy most of the time lol. It's only the first time they tackled the multiplayer aspect of the game in 3 videos, and it's like only less than half of the last video presentation.

A lot of people do want to jump to conclusion so that they don't feel the need to get this game because d'oh Nintendo...

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Haven't read anything about the Dolls in months, so totally just jumping in here, but what kind of limitations are on the Dolls? Can they fly indefinitely, or will I have to stop for gas or something?

Not hyped for this game yet. A big part of the first game's appeal was its characters. The current cast of X doesn't seem particularly charming.
They have been very charming

Totally understand. And I see you're currently playing one of the greatest games of all time, which is quite exciting. :)

Even after reading that siliconera article on the networking features I'm still a bit confused.

So am I reading this correctly, you can't play with other player characters but instead you will play with an AI version of another player character?

I think you can do both.
Phantasy Star online 2 had the same features : recruiting your friend bot/AI or play with your riend when he is online.

But you can only play together when doing missions named : squad.
Squad missions are mission that only your guildmates will be allowed to do, it seems.
A guild can have max 32 members.

Still, I will wait for the full translated video before saying anyhting else.
