Republican Debate 10 [CNN] Super Tuesday Bros. Melee

Pundits saying Rubio had a good night.

The pundits just don't get it. Look at the damn debate polls.

it doesn't really matter what they say, they can't say good things about Trump because it hurts their bottom line while at them saying bad things and propping up Roberto only fuels the narrative of the media being lying snakes out to destroy good ol honest Trump.

The media is like WWE trying to push Roman Reigns(Rubio) when all the fans already picked Bryan(Trump) as their guy.

can't believe I had to compare Trump to Bryan, i feel sick

Fuck Fox News. They've been on Rubio's dick since he did better than people thought in Iowa. They are a RNC puppet and have had a big hand in creating the hatred in their party.

It's amazing how delusional Fox News and the Republican Party are. If Marco Rubio has proven anything over the last 2 months, it's that he's the weakest candidate to go up against Hilary Clinton.

Rubio is only consistent at one thing -- being a loser.

Rubio was #3 in Iowa.

Rubio was #5 in New Hampshire.

Rubio was #2 in South Carolina, but he *barely* beat Ted Cruz here. (Rubio 22.48% vs Cruz 22.34%) Rubio had the endorsement of South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, and he STILL lost to Trump.

Rubio was #2 in Nevada, but he barely beat Ted Cruz here. (Rubio 23.9% vs Cruz 21.4%)

Pre-debate polls show that Rubio is losing to Trump in his home state, Florida.

What I find disgusting is that the pundits know damn well that Trump is winning big yet there they are shilling for Rubio.

Gotta keep that pundit job on FOX. Shameless.

Trump winning is horrible for FOX so they need to try to help someone else win. Remember, Trump already dislikes Fox so if he wins then Fox has to deal with him.

Why is Kasich polling so low? I thought he did great tonight. Had actual plans and seems to communicate his ideas much better than the rest of the candidates. He would be a much stronger candidate in the general election than the others as well.

In a different year without trump he might have stood a chance. He seems like a good vp candidate for trump when be gets the nomination.

I think it's going to be trump and Clinton now. And I don't know what trump is actually planning because all he has is a lot of smooth talking and hot air. I dont believe his nonsense about the wall or keeping Muslims out of the country. I think he's just saying those things to get attention.

Kasich is very antithetical with a strong portion of the Primary voters. His Gubernatorial and Legislative experience makes him part of the "Establishment" so his strongest quality is rendered meaningless. Nice and sensible don't work in an angry guys shouting year. Edit: A moderate who says we shouldn't kick out immigrants and supports a path way to legalization doesn't stand a chance next to BUILD THE WALL AND DEPORT.

If you are part of a 5 ring circus, it pays to be a clown if you want attention.

Pretty much. The fact that that Trump got applause for defending that should worry the Republican establishment more than Trump himself.

Trump is a Dixiecrat. He brings the racism the GOP truly stands for, but doesn't pander to the establishment. The base and the establishment were/are allies of convenience, but Trump gives the base the racism they desire without as much pandering. The establishment GOP is thoroughly disrupted here.

Really? I feel like Trump has just taken the platform to it's extremes.
Trump is extreme right on some issues, but he's also getting massive support while saying things like:
1) Planned Parenthood does some good things.
2) Homeless people shouldn't die from lack of medical attention.
3) Israel should work toward peace.
4) Some parts of Obamacare are good.

I mean, just look at that list. The rest of the candidates are revolted by him holding all of these perspectives.

Trump's secret is simple: He always acts as if he knows what he's talking about, even when he doesn't.

He can say any bullshit and as long as he says it confidently without skipping a beat, he comes out on top.

It was especially impressive tonight where he managed to keep talking consistently even as he was double-teamed and constantly interrupted by Rubio and Cruz.

"I'm neutral on Israel"
"How can you be neutral on Israel?"
"C'mon the Israelis love me I marched with the Israelis."

Looks like Rubio won't pick up a single state next week. I don't know if the media has been talking about this or not (no cable).

He has terrible posture though.

All Trump has to do is say Rubio is not remotely as good a candidate as Romney, who himself lost against the worst president of all time. He can't beat Rubio on policy knowledge, but he can cream Rubio as a total scrub who's only getting support because the establishment knows that Trump won't play their game.

Reading back through the topic this post made me sensibly chuckle. Obama the worst president of all time? Cute.

That's completely the opposite of what Republican primary voters want.

Lol. Whatever you say bud.

He might not be typical establishment Conservative, but he's certainly extremely conservative, on almost every policy.

Healthcare*, Planned Parenthood, Israel...

Obviously he is extremely conservative on some things, but he is more liberal on a number of issues than any Republican I thought I'd see on a debate stage.

If Rubio is a choke artist, what does that make Trump tonight? Rubio humiliated Trump and made him walk into the same trap that Christie did to Rubio.

The expectations around Trump are different, there was no Chris Christie figure to capitalize on Trump's meek answers, and Trump's overpowering presence means he does a better job recovering from his weaker moments throughout the course of a debate.

Otherwise, yeah, Trump looked like a joke during that exchange. He had to repeat himself over and over again, even as the people around him begged for just the slightest amount of additional detail, because his total ignorance on the subject left him with almost no room to maneuver. "Sell insurance policies across state lines" is a talking point Republicans love throwing into their health care pitches, because it sounds intuitive, and creates the impression of doing something substantive while avoiding dealing with the actual issues. It's incredible that this was all Trump had to offer.

He invokes the Marco Roboto moment, but then has to hide behind a stupid talking point. Only he could get away with this kind of thing again and again.

First of all, let's dispel with this notion that Kasich isn't a run-of-the-mill tea party nutcase. Kasich is a run-of-the-mill tea party nutcase. The reason he isn't winning is because he let a few reasonable sentences and one medicaid expansion slip out. Oh, and because he is a terrible campaigner who hasn't raised any money

Like him or hate him, Trump is fucking blowing up the Republican Party. Like irreparable damage to the establishment, a bull in the china shop.

I am not a fan of Trump, but I think it's actually a good thing he's being such a distruption. The Republican Party has strayed so far from 1) what conservatives once stood for, and 2) cultural evolution on key social issues, that something had to give.

I just hope that when the dust settles, the party can reorganize itself into something that resembles a strong and winnable platform.

He's got the racist part covered, but not some of the policy parts. He's a different kind of conservative.

All conservatives are racists? Is this the rule?

I wonder if after the nomination trump evolves into a more moderate candidate and all the planned parenthood and immigration stuff goes away. It might be a smart strategy to eat up some of Hillary's voters by appealing to the left and he already has won over so many on the right and has momentum there.

I don't think trump actually cares about planned parenthood at all. You can tell it's like a talking point with him..what he does care about is fiscal policy and wastefulness in the government. You can tell he gets excited talking about that and about running an efficient and effective machine.

I don't think they actually are revolted, I think they just want to capitalise on any differences as examples of him not being Conservative enough, though in reality it's simply him not following the exact establishment or party line or viewpoint that the rest of the puppets conform to, and would likely conform to irrespective of whatever policy it actually was. Lest we forget Obamacare is actually not too dissimilar to Romney's original (conservative) healthcare plans.

Trump was asked about whether any of his competitors on stage could be his running mate. His response tonight: "It's not looking good."

If Obama isn't the worst president of all time, that means the last eight years of Republican strategy was a waste. You'll never get them to admit that.

Well no, I didn't say that. That's why there are different types of conservatives. That's why Trump is doing so well despite being hated by the current Republican establishment.

What is this talk of people dying in the streets?
Cruz accused Trump of supporting "socialized medicine" because he talked about how he didn't want people dying in the streets.

For context, several debates ago Trump said he'd ax Obamacare but he didn't believe in killing all public medical care because he didn't believe that people should be dying in the streets in America. Cruz apparently disagrees.

And, yes, Cruz was being serious. Trump asked to quote him on when he said he supported socialized medicine (and even more specifically, when he ever did on the debate stage at Cruz alleged) and that's the example Cruz gave.

for some reason i'm convinced trump will win the republican nomination
and if hillary wins the democrats, i think she can beat trump, whilst if bernie won i think trump will win the presidency
i'm not american, and i don't know what i'm talking about

Cruz sounds like that dumb kid on the playground that thinks he got in a sick burn against someone that's a lot more nimble than he is. That "I know rules are hard for you to follow, Donald". Lol he looked so pleased with himself.

This was the blowup of the night for me. I already disliked Cruz but him trying to use that phrase as trump wants socialized medicine was just plain stupid. Trump was being reasonable in saying that there should be a safety net so that people don't die in the streets.

Well, the folks on stage are acting outraged, which is all that matters. Who knows what any of these guys really think.

I'm American and I believe this too. It's one of the major reasons why Republican leadership doesn't want Trump.

I think that trump changes considerably when he doesn't have to deal with rubio and Cruz. When it's him vs Hilary he's going to be courting those traditional left voters and see him open up and do less of this media bait stuff. He clearly doesn't have to pander to the traditional right wing bullshit social policies to do well among the Republicans.
