Every character gets their costume tweaked between films (and that's sort of about action figures). We already know he's getting a haircut in this (right?), so perhaps his new costume will be more dramatically different than the other ones he's had.

I only ask because of all Thor's costumes specifically have seemed pretty much the same between movies to my untrained eyes.

The brief image they showed was of Thor with short hair, I think he had warpaint on his face. I don't think he was in his usual armor, either. I forget the exact image, but it was pretty striking.

Funny thing is, I always thought this was true as well. However, the Thor suits in your pictures are actually fairly different from each other, specifically in the metallic structures around his chest.

I think the primary reason Natalie's performance in that film sticks out on your head is mostly because of those scenes in particular (eg. scenes where she was demanded to show a certain hysterical intensity of emotion), as opposed to literally everything else she ended up doing in that film. Portman as actress often excels in scenes where she's asked to scream or cry, but more often than not...when it comes to delivering naturalistic, believable performances in her films, she often comes across as unnaturally wooden and awkward. But because she's been involved in scenes where she can scream and cry, something Portman can do relatively well, she's applauded by mainstream audiences as being an extremely talented actress.

RedLetterMedia likes to talk about this phenomenon on occasion. See also: The Leonardo DiCaprio effect, where they cite Natalie Portman's rather lacking ability as a film actress as an additional example of the effect in action

I don't know if I entirely agree with that assumption to be honest. Yes the moments when she's screaming, shouting, angry or whatever do stand out. But I think that's the case for a lot of actors/actresses. Heck you could say it's Pacino's frikkin' whole career, getting angry and shouting his lines.

Back to Natalie Portman: the rest of V for Vendetta she plays a pretty typical English girl/woman and she's not given a lot to work with here. Ofcourse I'm gonna remember the scene where her acting is amazing due to her being highly emotional, screaming, crying, etc.

But I'm really derailing the thread here....
(I'll close with saying she's nowhere near to being a favorite actress of mine or anything. Just saying she ain't as bad as a lot of Marvel/Star Wars fans claim her to be. Especially the shit she was handed in Star Wars is something I can't see other actresses doing a much better job of...)

To he honest, I'm not a fan of how Thor looks in the MCU, though that's only because it's an adaptation of his classic comics look. I wish he looked more... "epic", like the new Unworthy Thor comic.

I dunno. Making Asgardian armour look quite worn would probably help a lot. Everything looks too shiny and new.

Ah well. I'm just glad they moved away from the plastic armour of the first film.

Oh I'm sure, it's just to me the differences have been much more subtle and far less dramatic than say, Captain America's endlessly rotating wardrobe.

Honestly, considering acting is probably the most subjective art form when it comes to critical analysis, it's a hard thing to find common ground on. Some performances just work for some, wheras some just don't. Needless to say, I respect your opinion.

Portman was actually quite an inspired pick for Jane a few years back, but needless to say, I'm sure Marvel have come to regret the decision that led them to bring her onboard with the Thor films. Especially now that "Female Thor" has become such a big thing in the comics. That would be a great story option to explore for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take down the road once Chris Hemsworth inevitably decides he wants to throw in the towel.

Heck, it might still be something they might wish to pursue later on...just with a different actress playing the role of Jane Foster.

Yeah, the Iron Man armors have an obvious in-story justification for changing up (and get a lot of attention in the process), Captain America's costumes (at least in his own films) are sort of thematically tied into the films somewhat, but Thor's costume changes are a bit more subtle and don't seem to have a strong reason behind their changes (and if anything you'd think if he's hundreds of years old or whatever he'd just pick a look and stick with it).

Ragnarok sounds like it'll have good reasons to push his look in a different direction, though, and that's exciting.

Fingers crossed Ragnarok will be able to push the entire series in a different direction. If so, my excitement for this will be boundless.

At least you can talk. Who are you?
Can't we just have a nude Hemsworth?
Is he just a mortal without the armour or could he take people on 1-v-1 in the nude?

The logo for this movie is badass. My wife loves Thor and she is pretty excited about this one.

I just hope the main antagonist (Cate Blanchett right?) isnt a throw away.

Do we even know if he'll have a new one?

I was at Comic Con, he definitely had new looking armor. It was an incredibly brief flash of it though, and at this point I can hardly remember the details enough to describe it. The helmet and chest area design were definitely different though, and I specifically remember the circles on his chest glowing.

Wonder if Zachary Levi is gonna be back too or if they'll recast the part a third time (still super weird that Zachary Levi is in The Dark World).

Also we need a Jaimie Alexander sighting.

Surtur and Skurge are enough to hype me. Goldblum as the Grandmaster is just icing on the cake. As is Blanchett playing a baddie.

Ok, let's see if I can paint a better picture

I read the Essential collections and DK guides when I was little

Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers, Hulk, Daredevil, and Fantastic Four.

I know Thor has a hammer. And there's an orange guy named Beta Ray Bill. Everything else is pffffff. Notice Doctor Strange isn't on that list and I'm hyped to hype heaven for that. Maybe it's because the other two were good but not amazing? Why is this one the one?

Beta Ray Bill

I'm listening

I love Chuck (and therefore love Zachary Levi) so I really hope he's back.

Edit: Wait... Fenrir is in the movie?! Fuck yes!

You know the major challenge this film is going to have is putting all these characters who are important to Norse Ragnarok into this film without a single mention of them in the Thor universe beforehand. Hela, Surtur, Fenrir Wolf, Valkyrie, Skurge, etc.

You also have the whole Planet Hulk stuff with the Grandmaster.

I have no idea how they'll juggle all of that. Civil War had the advantage of the majority of its cast already being familiar to its audiences. Ragnarok doesn't.

THOR could throw Brisbane into traffic chaos as the Marvel blockbuster hits the city next week.

Cameras are set to roll in the CBD from Monday until Thursday as part of the Hollywood production, with controversial road closures on Mary St, Albert St, Margaret St and the Margaret St off-ramp on the Pacific Motorway from this week until August 26.

Businesses in the area yesterday reported receiving a letter from Asgard Productions III Pty Ltd, claiming to be the producers of a feature film called Creature Report – Thor: Ragnarok’s working title – outlining the filming schedule of “day sequences” and affected streets.

Sir Anthony Hopkins was yesterday spotted in Port Macquarie, NSW, reportedly en route to Queensland for filming. British actor Ray Stevenson has also arrived in town.

I'd be willing to bet that Fenrir is going have about as significant a role in this movie as the rock monster from the beginning of Thor 2 did, considering all that is supposed to be going on. Anyone who isn't going to be present in the next Avengers movie probably isn't going to have a whole lot of screen time either.
