Podcast got me curious. Saban coached Bama teams have scored 60+ three times. 66 against Ole Miss is the highest, and the only one against a conference opponent. 50+ is pretty uncommon, and usually happens against the lesser OOC opponents.
Curious where this offense will be by the end of the season, they have already progressed a lot since the FSU game. Crazy talented and Daboll may be Saban's best OC so far.

So he can't modernize an offense, but he's savvy enough to make a podcast? Wild.
I keep saying it's early, but I don't think Saban's had a better offense. Having a top 5 offense to match the defense feels like uncharted territory for us. I almost hate that Hurts sits out the entire second half of games, but I think he'll get an invite to New York anyways.

Some of it, to me, is the fact that they bring in Tua and the Freshman WR's pretty early, and instead of going crockpot, they let them continue to play as if there's not been a 1st half of a game. To have a backup QB come in and throw more than 1 little bootleg pass to a H-Back was unheard of up until this year.
Gotta get the depth quality reps
BackupQB reps have always been "Hand off left" and "Hand off right"

Yeah, I really like this change. It's probably also good for keeping some of that young talent from transferring, since that's started to become an issue in the last couple years.

We've also never had so little experience in the QB room though. Jalen winning the job last season changed everything. Tua's gotta get reps early and often. He's one play away from being the guy. What's really different about this year is, he's mostly thriving in his chances to play. He makes a few freshmen mistakes, but for all intents and purposes, our backup offense would be enough to get the job done most years. And Daboll's still adding concepts and schemes. That's wild.
Next year's balancing act will be interesting among our QB's.
Just getting in from work. NC State winning is...unsurprising.
pretty sure Alabama has never ran any "flare out" HB routes, like we have this year (seems like Bo's gotten the most of those), and I know I've seen a couple honest to goodness HB Wheel Routes (just haven't hit them yet). HB passes have almost always been screen passes. He's also been much more sparce on his bubble screen usage.
Did you notice this last game that Jalen started going with snaps without clapping? He's almost always been a clap snapper. I'm sure there are terms for these types of exchanges, but that's what I'm going with. But maybe starting to grow into the little tricks of QB play. Crossing Fingers he can learn to draw teams offsides.

The TD pass Jalen threw to Jacobs last week was a wheel route. And yeah, I noticed for the first time against Ole Miss that he was (still clapping) attempting to get the defense to reveal who was blitzing pre-snap. He was successful a few times and made the correct reads afterwards.
I think Jalen's grown a lot more than people realize. The media is clinging to the FSU game where we called a conservative game, and he still managed to play pretty well. He'd be throwing for 300 yards a game and rushing for another 120+ in the games since then if he wasn't getting pulled routinely with like 12 minutes left in the 3rd. His release is quicker, he's not really crow-hopping anymore, he's looking safeties off (sometimes), and delivering strikes in tight windows. Funnily enough, the area he most needs to improve on is the one he seemed to have down already; timing on the deep ball. And even then, he's only just barely overthrowing our guys.
We've never had an offense this dangerous under Saban. We've either been extremely conservative, "manage the game" types, or "feast or famine" under Kiffin.
